  Please share any Aussie child custody experience re religious instruction

  are there any aussies out there who can help with some advice or experience please?

  my ex left the dubs before we were married and had kids.

  now 20 years later he has returned to the fold and we have separated.

  Hi serenitynow

  I don't think you could take legal action to stop your ex or his family from talking to your children about religion. In any case jws would think of that as "persecution" and they would rally round the family and kids even more.

  I'd say don't stress too much - I can hardly imagine that the meetings and field service could be too attractive to your children - even those brought up as witnesses don't like those aspects too much.

  Your ex must still be very brainwashed from his upbringing. However, your children haven't had that brainwashing so don't underestimate their ability to reason and see through things.

  Are Faders "better" than DF'd or DA'd?

  this is something i've been mulling over.

  just would like to hear opinions as to whether faders, or inactive ones think they are superior to disfellowshipped or disassociated ones?

  what is your experience with this?

  I'm a fader. I would never think of myself as superior to anyone else, whether they are df'd, da'd or even still jws. I have many family members who are still jws and I love them - that's why I'm a fader. I consider myself fortunate - I had the opportunity to fade. Others didn't - they still love their families also and for some of them, their life is hell. I hate what the 'organisation' does to families.

  Disfellowshipping

  i was recently in court for the domestic violence charges against my former (and still in excellent standing) spouse.

  he is using all jws to say how he is such a wonderful person, etc - all total and complete lies as some of them are actual eyewitnesses to my abuse.

  in his sworn statement, he says that jws do not disfellowship, do not shun, and that i am not disfellowshipped, but that all my "friends" won't talk to me because it is their choice.

  Unbelievable that a WT appointed attorney would be defending a violent person. Haven't they got better things to do?

  Fader blues

  this is probably the first time i've started a thread that hasn't got to do with theology.

  lol.. i've been feeling rather hassled lately.

  living my life away from home as a fader and getting unwanted calls from my folks.

  As a fellow fader Inq, I can relate to your feelings. It never seems to end. What you are doing though is buying time, educating yourself and growing in emotional strength. When the time is right you will be able to face your family. Many have travelled this road before you.

  I was in my late teens. I was with my dad and he was having a discussion with a Christadelphian on some points of difference. The funny thing was, when I listened to my dad, he sounded reasonable - when I listened to the Christadelphian, she sounded reasonable. That was confusing. But I put it aside...

  In my hometown

  so a few months ago i got the 'you're disowned' email from my parents, and i thought that it was all over for any kind of ongoing relationship with them.

  i'd planned this visit to see them (i live on the east coast of australia, they're a five-hour flight away), but a few months ago they told me they won't see me when i'm here.

  i have non-jw family and friends here though who i love a lot, and i have spent some nice times with them, and shown mr frass around my old haunts.

  That sounds ominous. Wouldn't it be great if he just said, "Yep, come over and have a beer". Not a chance, I guess.

  How do you deal with the disorganized world?

  okay, this is kind of an odd point, but bothers me.

  in my time away from the witnesses, i have been involved in things like trade shows, athletic competitions and even some work related events.

  in all cases, i am often surprised at how annoyed i get with people who can just not organize an event.

  Relax free2. Although it's important to be organised if you're doing heart surgery, most situations in life are not important at all. Almost everything we do won't make a scrap of difference to anyone tomorrow, let alone a week from now.

  I'm not saying you should drop your own standards, I'm just saying don't get stressed about the perceived need for everything to run perfectly.

  within a few weeks i leased a condo on the banks of the willamette river just out side the city of portland.

  as she got into her car she looked at me funny again, laughed and just shook her head.. .

  i told him that if i said i was sorry, i knew that is what they wanted to hear but it was not the truth.

  Oh purps, I do know very well how difficult it can be. And I know all about playing out different scenarios in your head - you can be completely on the wrong track.

  Still, if you would like to be in a relationship and you feel a connection with this man, it's a good start!
