this morning i saw a witness mother and her son heading out into service.
from the area they were in i think they were going to be doing some street corner work.
i was stopped at a light when they walked in front of my car.
I know how that guy feels, every week.
Wow, Anony-Mouse! Does that mean you are still participating in FS? No-one can force you. The sooner you say "no more" the better. It's hard to tell your family that you're not going to do it anymore, but they'll get over it. Your greatest friend is the word "NO". It's as easy as that. They can't drag you out.
firstly i will acknowlege this may be long please bear with me.. not all written here will be exactly in the sequence we discussed things, for we talked for some time at my door.. he was my former book study conductor and i still think he has good qualities that i see lacking in so many elders, but as you will see the wts mindset is like concrete in his mind.. i am writing this not to brag but to emphasise and highlight the disgusting mindset of the wts and it's leaders and members.. here we go - some may know that my wife was molested as a child for some time by her elder father.
when we married some years ago it did not take long for her to open up to me about what happened to her and needless to say we struggled with this, and eventually told the local elders what happened to her as a child.. we only went this path after she tried to get him to confess ,which he did'nt and so we followed what we thought at the time was the theocratic way and went to the elders ,and please note we sincerely wanted him to repent so he could get everlasting life.
he denied all and so followed years of heartache for my wife along with her family tormenting her and eventually abandoning her, even by at least one of her sisters whom my wife also witnessed getting done by the father though not as bad ,and my wife even as a kid tried to protect her younger sisters.. ok there is the usual wts crap "we have no witnesses" even though my wife called out to jehovah to stop him as he did this for years.
Wow, wozadummy, you did well. 5 abuse cases that this elder knows about. Sounds like a lot in such a small area. I think I could add a couple more to that tally.
I think the others who have been abused and are hiding it would be doing this because of shame and fear of consequences. If they are being interviewed by the police and others, they may be getting the courage to start speaking out. With the mother being a strong person, she is as guilty as the dad, I'd say. She should have been there to protect her daughters and give him a swift kick straight out of the house into the justice system. Jail doesn't deal kindly with child abusers.
The elders are speaking to you now, knowing you have gone to the police. They are scared that they will be exposed (as not doing anything when they should have). And hopefully they will be. It will be interesting to see whether they now start to take action against the father.

one of the biggest - if not the biggest barriers - to leaving the organization is family ties - particularly immediate family (i.e., those living in your household: sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, mother-in-laws, father-in-laws).
i know of no bigger barrier.
therefore, it's relatively easy to predict who will face the most adversity in trying to leave.
If I give them the impression that I am a "spiritual danger" to their young children, I'm sure the shunning would begin.
choosing life, I am in the same position. Very frustrating. As the young children become teenagers, I'd love to take them aside and have a little chat. I've tried talking to the adults and that's been a lost cause. And they've already told me if I say anything to the kids, that's the end.

i went to a party last night.
it was relatively tame.
there were maybe forty people there.
It's strange what makes us feel guilty. I still felt guilty about birthdays long after I had ceased feeling guilty about sex (as a single person).
After a while I no longer felt guilty about celebrating birthdays at work with complete strangers but still couldn't bring myself to go to a birthday party with other ex-JWs in the family. WORK THAT OUT!
It seems that feelings of guilt are not a good indicator of whether an activity is acceptable.
If you decide mentally that it's not wrong, go for it (as long as it's generally acceptable behaviour). Have something planned for the next day so you don't have time to feel guilty. Maybe get a "partner in crime" if possible.
i use to be based on the nw coast sometimes burnie, sometimes devonport, sometimes i wandered as far a field as sydney.

Nevermind, there are still all the rest of us Aussies here. Only 2 from South Australia (me and wozadummy).
i have been df'd for around 4 years and have not got my back up about the org until this year.
only this last year have i been looking around for answers and started realising there is a foundation for my reasons of not going back.
at first i was happy that it wasn't because i was making excuses for not going back but bad things were happening outside of the people i know across the org.. what pissed me off the most (and the reason i found this site) is because i got the blame for my brother in-law having sex in my house with someone other than his wife (my sister) because i am not witness and thus have low standards.. i'll try to keep this short: i have 2 sisters, one brother and 2 parents (fancy that) both remarried however.
What your BIL did was very stupid but as you say, he is human. Unfortunately JWs aren't allowed to make mistakes. And if they do, the guilt they feel can be overwhelming. He didn't stick up for you because he feels better when the blame is shared (unfair as that may be).
i heard on tv this morning that a few will protest at our assembly which will be held in quebec city friday, saturday and sunday.. i heard that someone who lost a family member due to blood policy will protest in front of where the assembly will be held..... i'll try to find a link to this story... .
Some wearing masks - I think that's a great idea. It will attract attention and cause people to ask more questions.

I've been to Alice Springs and camped near Ayers Rock (Uluru). An amazing and beautiful part of the country. I'd like to take the train from Adelaide to Darwin one day.
