i am an "active" jehovah's witness in that i go to the meetings, smile and nod, and pretend to go along with everything happening around me.

this is not because i believe that the wbts has any redeeming value but because i am trying to keep my family from being shred to pieces.

because of my "independent thinking" and use of rational thought, i would clearly be labeled "apostate" and ousted from my current congregation.

hi everyone, i have been lurking for a very long time and have been pretty much blown away and sickened by what i have learned on this discussion forum (this is actually the first forum i had ever visted).

i am married to man who was not a jw when i met him (although he was raised as one from his early teens but left when he was in his 20's, oh and that was when he started attending college), to make a long story short we met, fell in love, got married, had a few children and then 20 yrs later he started attending the "meetings" or better yet "the indoctrination sessions" again, which btw he did not tell me that that was what he was doing!!

shortly thereafter i began noticing changes in his personality, and it wasn't for the better.

My situation is almost identical, my wifes family is in the borg, but when I met my wife she was not active at all, in fact having just finished a five year tour in the Navy. She had started a couple of other studies and stopped, but this time she is a bit more serious with her study, at least so it seems.

She will not listen to reason when I talk to her, it does amaze me that she and the sister and the sisters husband talk about how important it is to 'take a serious look at your religion', but that only goes if it is not a serious look at the wts.

I can empathize with you, and I can feel what you are going through, I have had many sleepless nights since she has started again, and she is like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, showing the JW personality at one time and her authentic personality at others.

I love her and I know she is a smart woman, just having been misled.

Please ask questions, all of us UBMs learn from the experiences of others!

With respect to counseling, I have pretty much gotten the same answers...and I too have often thought about seeking counseling on my own if she refuses to go with me........

the wbts keeps trying to cram proverbs 3:5,6 down the throats of its members lately.

i have no doubt that within the next couple of years it will be the year's text.

i noticed that in the september "public" watchtower, they equate higher education with the badness of illegal drugs, social websites, and fornication.

Joke from Patterson elders' school

our po recently returned from his indoctrination training session at patterson.. he's been pretty tight-lipped about the experience, following orders from above.

but he did repeat one joke he said one of the instructors made (keep in mind that all those in attendance were pos).. what is the difference between jesus christ and a po?.

jesus knows he isn't god!.

From what I understand there are many times that a PO may be lying, but even he doesn't know it, he is merely restating what he has been told to restate...quite sad!

You are correct MJ, I am WAY too technically minded and need to be able to redirect the approach....to you and I, if one can show us the facts, and we can see that the facts are really the facts (not adulterated in any way) you can prove something to us.

To my wife, facts on an issue like this mean nothing, it is a much tougher situation to grab, and I do need to figure out what the carrot or the pot of gold that my wife is really finding appealing with this. I believe it is social, she only reaches out to the jws when she is out of school, not working etc, and they are the masters at being able to figure out when that is...but still need to deal with it.

My wife is a great person, but I would say very difficult to get to know as a friend, and she really does not treat her friends as well as I feel she should, so true friends are far between. Right now the JWs are wonderful friends for her, because they are trying to 'sell the program', and then they hope she has bought into the program enough that she feels vested and can not get out....

I concur with what civicsi00 says about the contact with the jws, this is my wife's third flirtation with the jws in the past three years, and this is after she had been saying some pretty bad things about her upbringing in the borg during the last year......they showed up at the door, she called her father, and here I am....again!

Clothing and appearance guidelines from the Bible...how do the JWs justify?

i was looking at a listing of some of the clothing/appearance guidelines from the bible and i was wondering how the wts works around the below scriptures.

i know they have sited 1 corinthians 11:14-15 with respect to men and long hair, but the sister who is studying with my wife, and married to the po has very short hair, how is this justified??.

the items from ot scripture, such as the woman wearing garments pertaining to a man and the mixing of woolen and linen were most likely swept under the rug with the lifting of the mosiac law.. "the woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the lord thy god.

"Women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array." -- 1 Timothy 2:9
"Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel." -- 1 Peter 3:3
Don't wear garments with wool and linen blended together. (I am guessing this changed for the JWs with the lifting of the mosaic laws)
"Thou shalt not wear a garment of diverse sorts, as of woolen and linen together." -- Deuteronomy 22:11
"Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering." -- 1 Corinthians 11:14-15

One other question pertaining to this, the mosiac law was lifted by the 'ransom sacrifice' in the NT. Since the NT is written to the anointed, is it the mediator arrangement between the anointed and the 'great crowd' that lifts the mosaic law for the great crowd.

What I was hoping to get out of it was in one of their publications something that states that they were chosen in 1918 as the FDS....I know there is also a recent WT with the same, but I think seeing it in an old book would be more plausible than in a 'members only' watchtower.

I am amazed that my wife has been around the WTS/JWs for this long and she does not realize that they profess to be selected by God at that time......she really has done NO LOOKING AT ALL at the JWs, she just lets them feed her all the drivel they can, it is scary!
