My mom had an experience, where she was praying for guidence, and saw Jesus. I do believe it can happen.

You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Until you are in the Oval Office and hear first hand what is going on, I don't think you have the right to judge.
I have a handful of friends that happen to know President Bush, and know what is in his heart. They know what is going on, because they are there first hand.
For those of us on the sidelines, we need to sit back and allow our government leaders do what they have to do. There are reasons they are in office and we are not.

Witness publications bloodguilty?
by freedom96 inhave you ever been in a store, perhaps a laundry mat, dry cleaners, doctors office, etc and seen a few of the watchtower and awakes sitting there?.
obviously, someone needed to "place" some old mags, get their numbers up.
i remember doing this too during early morning street work.

Remember we were always taught that if we didn't use every opportunity to witness to others, to place publications, we could be held accountable and bloodguilty to Jehovah.
Now we know this to be a cult-like organization, that in effect kills people with their doctrines, and tears apart families, etc.
Could it be the other way around? When we see those magazines laying around, should we throw them away or destroy them? What if someone read it, and got involved? Would we really want that on our concience?

PSYCHOLOGY TODAY magazine features ex-JW book!
by escapefromcult ini was flipping thru the latest issue (dec. 2002) of the popular magazine psychology today, and noticed some book reviews.
the article on pg.
76 is entitled "cq: psychology today introduces culture quotient (cq), a review of the season's most psychologically astute...books, ..." and one the 11 books they chose to bestow this description upon was diane wilson's new book, awakening of a jehovah's witness: escape from the watchtower society".

What a tremendous accomplishment to have her book featured in Psychology Today!
I double checked Barnes and Nobles, and indeed, you can get it there, as well as Amazon. There are links too from her website www.dianewilson.net
Congradulations Diane!!

The more it changes, the more it stays the same
by ozziepost inlooking at the wts web-site for current magazine articles, i was "struck" by how familiar they all sounded.
it could easily be five, or even ten years ago, couldn't it?
"spiritual food at the right time"?

Yes, it appears as though one can stop reading for 10-20 years, and pick up again and not miss anything. In fact, read similar articles.
I always found the Awake to be more enjoyable to read, but really, when one thinks about it, some of the articles are way boring. They write articles on things no one really cares about. It just fills pages, and what is the point?

What thing did you do when you left
by shera in.
what was one thing you did and really wanted to do when you left the jw's;what you couldn't do because of the organization?.
mine was martial arts.

Martial arts, choose my own friends, be patriotic, holidays, and more. Feeling free to do whatever I wanted that they said not to, but still being in line with being a good person.

What did you REALLY think about the banned things
by SpannerintheWorks inwhat prompted this topic was when an ex-jw ( ex-elder ) friend of mine told me that once when he was doing a "car" witness with three others, near to christmas time, they lost one of them!
after a bit of searching along the route, the others eventually found him in a house, eating a mince pie and drinking a glass of brandy!.
my friend reminded him that he shouldn't be participating in these " worldly things.

If my child had needed a blood transfusion in order to live, there is not an army out there that would have stopped me.

No sunday school for witnesses
by freedom96 ini have had the opportunity to visit a few non-denominational churches since i have left the witnesses.
i have talked to people who attend other ones, and obviously find great differences between those and witnesses.. a huge mistake, among many of course, in my opinion, is that there is no programs for kids.. an infant is expected to make all the meetings.
a toddler is expected to go, and sit still.

I do believe that we as a people have to adapt ourselves, and change with the times. The fact is, that there are no programs designed for children. Not at the Hall, not afterwards. If the WTS is so concerned about bad association outside the influence of the congregation, then why do they not make provisions for that. Kids cannot go to the prom, why not have activities for them that will not make them feel so isolated?
Ultimately, I feel that they are doing themselves a disservice, and hurting themselves in the long run.

The only time we will feel guilt is when we feel like we are doing something wrong. We were so brainwashed for so long, that it is impossible for that to leave right away.
I would encourage him to do some serious research, and realize that once and for all, the WTS is not the true religion, and if that is the case, they have nothing on us at all.
