MIND IN OVERLOAD

for a week now i have been on this sight, the watch tower sight, reading 3 diffrent translations of the bible ( kj, nwt, and new american standard,) would have a 4th translation if i could read greek because i also have a greek new testament.

i have also been in long conversations with the guy that is a jw and find myself overwhelmed.

i am getting addicted to all this and the research.

JWs do not know the bible and history at all. All they know is the WTs version of the bible and history. You have to read the bible in its context to really understand it. And one thing I have learned that I did wrong in the beginning with the Witnesses is that I did not check any facts from sources OUTSIDE the organization. They will only give you their books which are biased to prove their version of events. Something else my husband found out after we left is that whenever they re-issue a new CD ROMM for the computer (WT library on CD), they delete many of the past WT and Awake articles because they have changed doctrines many times. For some years, whole months of articles are missing. They then revise their history in the Proclaimers Book to show something different.

Please remember that as far as teaching others, their material is biased and they practice all the time so it does seem like they know what they are talking about. But, if you take any scripture they give and read the whole chapter, you will see that it was written for a specific reason and audience and that the JWs are twisting it to mean something else. Also they have changed over 200 verses in their bible in the NT. The NWT is totally biased and was only written because no other bible backs up the JW teachings.

I cannot stress enough that you have to check everything. Do not study any books with them. Read the New Testament on its own and you will get a good basic understanding of early Christianity. While they may teach some things that are true, you will find the same in all religions. But in the WT you will be totally enslaved to it. You have to report time cards to elders telling them what you are doing in the Ministry right down to how many hours, magazines given out, and bible studies you have. You will also have more laws prohibiting what you can do, than the Jews had in the Mosaic Law. Ask them to tell you what you will not be able to celebrate anymore and see if they are honest. Please be careful. I will be praying for you.

i've read many different authors but i've gotta admit ray is among the top writers i've read so far.

the very first mention of the "catholic church" was made in the year 107, in st. ignatius letter to the smyrnaeans.

I really think you know what I meant by Sound. And I meant how people can take it or read it. That is obvious by my post. I did not need any lesson on words. But thanks anyway. There really is no need to try to be more superior to others just becuase you feel you are very well educated. Many others on this forum have expressed their opinion without resorted to trying to put others down. But if you need to feel superior than so be it. I think this will be my last comment under this post because frankly, I have moved on to more interesting matters. Lilly

I thought Poodlehead was being sarcastic and I gave him scriptures to show that many of the teachings of the catholic church today including: prayer to saints, using idols and relics, priesthood that cannot marry, abstaining from certain foods, calling the Pope or Priest by the term father, is not biblical These practices were not done in the early church. The early "church" being the one established at Pentecost by the pouring out of Holy Spirit.

I stand by my statement: Religion was begun by man to control people. Although they do some good, they only contribute to the division of people. Think of how many people in times past have even been willing to slaughter others who had slightly different religious beliefs?

We all can read but words are very powerful and I don't think you realize how your words sound to others sometimes. I've found many highly intelligent people on this site that can explain their beliefs very well and without insinuating that others are poor readers.And I don't think anyone here will disagree with your statement that the Jehovahs Witnesses do not understand early church history. They do not understand much about the bible and I think we could all agree on this. You may not realize by posting this post it does not only show that the JWs were wrong in church history but it also seems to say that the Catholic Church is earlier than once thought and therefore could be closet to the early church. It is the latter, that we are all having trouble with. Because many of us have studied the history of the churches and all of them invent their own history to a degree trying to prove they are the only true church. There is no one church. As far as the term Universal, well I remember learning in Sunday School that once everyone became a Catholic, Gods kingdom would be realized on earth because we will have one universal church. Well, this is not going to happen this way. Just because you claim to be a universal church does not mean everyone wants to belong to it.

Like I said in past posts, I ask really hard questions. But so far, I think they have been easy and straight forward, and it seems you are getting offended already. If you want to be a lawyer, for goodness sake - get a thicker skin.

Eat a Placenta?

imagine, you are tom cruise/chruch of scientology publicist.

you have a public relations problem - the public thinks tom & his group are wacked out, cult members.. then, tom cruise says to a reporter that he's ready to eat the placenta of his new child after it births.. lol!

this really helps the church of scientology/tom's next movie's popularity.. i realize that today's fathers don't want to wait in a waiting room with a cigar.

Rent vs. Buying a house

i have started thinking about buying a house again.

something that drives me nuts is the fact that i can't seem to get a straight answer out of anyone as to whether or not owning a house would be financially better than renting an apartment.. things to take into consideration:how much i pay in rent.how much rent increases each year.how much i pay in renters insurance.how much a mortgage would be.how much pmi or an 80 / xx mortgage would be.how much i would have to take from or borrow from my 401ks and iras for a down payment.how much i will have to pay in penalties for taking money from my 401ks and iras.how much money l will loose by not having that 401k money earning interest.how much maintenance on the property will cost.how much insurance will cost.how much i will be paying in property taxes.how much in "freebies" i will get from the seller (they will pay $xxx in closing costs if i use their mortgage company).other crap i haven't thought of yet.. it seems like everyone i talk to has their own agenda and they all give me different results based on they want me to do so they will get more money from me.

I worked in mortgage financing for several years and have a background in financial investing. Here is my best advice:

The best thing you can ever do to build a financially secure future and your net worth is to buy a home. You can pay rent forever but you will never own your apartment. Homes, even during a slow year normally appreciate in value. In my area, my home has gone up over $100,000 in value since I bought it only 4 years ago. Your mortgage interest is deductable on your taxes every year which means you will get more money back. You will have more leverage if you need to borry money and you will have the security of knowing you have a place to live that is secure.

There are many financing options available but if you can put down 20%, that is your best bet. You will not have to pay PMI. Some banks will drop the PMI if you put down only 10%, so whop around. You will get the lowest rate available, providing your credit is good. You will only be penalized 10% if you take the money out of your pension to buy your first home. You do not have to pay the 20% federal withholding tax in this situation. The best mortgages are fixed. Under NO circumstances should you get an interest only mortgage. These are very financially risky. If your home does not appreciate enough to lock in a fixed rate at the end of the interest only term, you will loose your home. The banks will try to tell you that you can get more home for the money, but this is a lot of bull. You do not want MORE home for the money, you want a home you can acutally AFFORD. If you can swing it, get a biweekly payment and you will pay off your home in 20 years rather than 30. Or, you can pay one extra payment per year. I always pay more and my home will be mine in only 15 years instead of 30.

Make sure when you look to buy that you take everything into consideration. You will have to pay the mortgage, insurance, water, and repairs. Can you really afford it? only you can answer that. A typical way to figure out how much home you can really afford is that the home and related expenses should be between 26% and 36% of your monthly gross income. Not much more, or you can be in trouble. Also shop around for closing fees because the fees are different depending on the mortgage broker. Always get a lawyer. And one more thing, if you can, contact a buyers agent before looking for a home. He will have your best interests at heart and works for you, not the seller. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
