thanks Jim for answering my questions. The two major problems I had with the Roman Catholic Church I grew up in was the infallibility of the Pope and the rules coming down from the Pope as being from God. I didn't know their were other groups within the same system that felt differently. I guess you learn something new every day.

First mention of the Catholic Church
by Amazing1914 inas i am completing a paper for brci, i found something quite interesting.
the very first mention of the "catholic church" was made in the year 107, in st. ignatius letter to the smyrnaeans.
st. ignatius was bishop of antioch for forty-years, being appointed by the apostle peter.

Gregor, no problem.
Miss peaches,
There was this one time at the last convention I went to that the speaker mentioned how we were the happiest people on earth, yada, yada, and this guy in front of me laughed out loud hysterically and it started a chain reaction. I started to laugh too and a lot of other people. But, my hubby was a MS back then, and he reprimanded me in the car later that day. I was like come on, it was funny!

Yell out Amen Brother! at the top of your voice during the talks
Laugh uncontrolably and Loudly from your seat
Gasp and yell out "oh my God" if you don't agree with the speaker
Yell out "can you speak up, I can't hear you" during talks
Bring a radio with batteries and tune it to your favorite station
Bring a portable T.V. and watch your favorite soaps in the afternoon

How do some of you, find so much time to be on this board?
by free2beme ini have noticed that some posters are here a lot, and i was just wondering how you find so much time to do that?
between work, coming home and playing with my child, working outdoors in the yard, and enjoying the weekend in the outdoors doing fishing, hiking or just getting outside.
i have little time for places like this and yet some are here "a lot!

I am a housewife and I do Ministry work from home too. I leave the forum up on the computer all day and pop on and off in between work.

OK believers, time to put up or shut up...
by Gregor inapparently, a large percentage of xjw's who post on this site have embraced some other form of god/jesus belief to replace the wt doctrine.
most of them fall into the "i accept the lord jesus christ as my personal savior" class.
they are still extremely attached to the old "forgiveness of sin through the shed blood of jc" line.

KW13,
I learned a lot from reading your posts here tonight. I think you took a very intelligent route and showed maturity beyond your age. Thank you.

Why I know the Watchtower has the Truth:
by Honesty ini urge you to disregard any personal opinions voiced by anyone, including myself regarding watchtower society publications.
but i would like to ask you to meditate on why god is so puny and ineffective.
he must be the epitome of helplessness.

Honesty,
you really had me going. To teach that no truth was on the earth for 1900 years until Russell somehow awoke from an apostate sleep and was given all the truth is crazy. Thank God you are out of that cult. There has always been truth on the earth and always will. But no one has all the truth. Good point made.

es,
so sorry to hear about your bad day. Some people have no respect for others and dont know how to talk politely. Even if he felt you did something wrong, he did not have to be abbrasive. Please take it easy, you don't want to be too upset when you are expecting.
Do you think he is treating you this way because you are pregnant or was he a jerk before? I only ask becuase I had a boss that I got along great with as long as I gave 100% to his company but once he found out I was pregnant, he figured I would not be able to support him as much anymore because I would have to take time for my kid, and he started changing and getting really mean. It is not uncommon for bosses to discriminate against pregnant workers and this could happen if they are men or women. I hope that is not the case.
Anyway, how far along are you? is this your first?

Jim,
I agree with your point about the WT saying that there was no truth for 1900 years when Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would prevent that. I never could understand that belief, it was so strange. Also, I have a question about the term bishop. Is this not a term from the Catholic church? I thought only the title elder was biblical. Also, you mentioned your church does not believe in the heirarchy of the Roman Catholics. Does this include the Pope?
