I agree, yet what has kept this cult alive for so many yrs is there constant "modern day" fulfillment, or correlation with modern day events. They have based an entire corporation on how every sentence in the bible means something relevant to today's JW's. Its infuriating.

“Generation” problem is a self-inflicted wound
by Doug Mason inthere is no need to go to any university of higher education to solve the wtss problem with generation of matthew 24:34. it only needs a primary school certificate in plain reading.
in each of the nine times that the word generation appears in matthew, jesus is talking about the jewish people of his time.
read: matt 11:16; 12:39, 41, 42, 45; 16:4; 17:17; 23:36; and 24:34. .

How many of us would enjoy a little anxiety from being wealthy?? How many of us - not mentioned in this WA study - have anxiety and sleepless nights worrying about where our next paycheck is coming from, worrying about feeding our families, paying taxes, the WA does not cover the needs of people.
And that's it - what others have said - what is the purpose of handing out magazines, going uninvited to people's doors, then sitting in a KH staring blankly at a speaker giving a talk you've heard a dozen times - that's the "real" life??? Its boring, useless, does nothing to help others,
If the whole world today turned JW that would end all welfare programs, no one would go to work, no one would go to school, it would be a giant lazy society of people sitting at home or in KH waiting for the end to come, all aging and dying because no one went to medical school, no one has any money because the "real" life is sitting around waiting for the end. I could go on and on!

I enjoy reading these posts each week. I have learned more from WT Comments and Blondie, plus the other excellent posts than I have in all the yrs wasted inside a KH!! Thank you. Again, the WT society itself never ceases to infuriate me. They are the most self centered, lazy, self righteous group of people in the entire world!

Things to understand about talking to a Jehovah's Witness...
by drew sagan inplease note that everything i write here is within the context of discussions between two witnesses.
conversations between a jw and non jw are different in a number of ways and so i will not be discussing them here.
the 'running ahead' fallacy.

I enjoyed reading these posts, very helpful to me. I am dealing with this since leaving the cult and mind controlling religion. My sister is still totally self hypnotized, and gets a weekly dose of hynotism at the sales meetings at the KH. I do like the comments above, and will try to remember them, that those items about hell fire, so forth, is what you have been told by men, your human leaders, you did not learn it for yourself from the scriptures. Same with WT material, why can't you be taught from the bible? Why the need to corporate brochures and magazines?
The only time I can reach my sister is when I mention how are the JWs different from any other tax exempt corporation. I show her news articles of their real estate holdings and the estimated millions they make. That usually silences her for awhile until she goes back for more mind control sessions and gets back into the spirit of being chosen by god for the new system.
It just is an uphill battle with a JW because of the yrs and yrs of expert mind control they receive each day, whether at mtgs, door to door sales pitches, or at home with their meditation (self hypnosis). Very frustrating.

Annual Meeting Notes - Oct. 6, 2007 and personal notes
by Dogpatch inbro jackson.
indicates total destruction of the wicked system and its spirit.. we (the anointed) are prepared for that day.
they didnt see the whole picture and only had a limited perspective so they lost confidence in jehovah and moses.

I like that statement, "we created a charter to form the WA Bible and Tract Society to disseminate bible truths"...that really got me. I want to say, uh, excuse me?? You do not need to set up a corporation, tax free status, taking in millions over the yrs just to disseminate the "truth". You receive free, give free, they could have distributed religious material for very little cost, yes, pay their taxes, whatever, if they REALLY felt it was the TRUTH. They are a bunch of money hungry lazy old guys living off the hard work of the members. Thank you for posting those notes! But it does make me angry all over again - i am glad i am out of that circus where they have NERVE to say they are chosen by god!! I am shocked god didnt strike them down where they stood for making those comments.

The Screws are tightening! Fear is paramount for mind control to work!
by Gill ini have recently been noticing my mother's and other relatives' increased fervent and frantic activity in the wt society.. i wondered why they are becoming so fanatical and decided to take an indepth look at the latest watchtowers.. i believe there is a very worrying trend in the wt society now for a apocalyptic zeal that borders on fanaticism and now the wt is tightening the screws with its demand for 'cultic obedience.'.
in the past i wondered whether another 'jonestown,' or similar scenario, was possible, but though the wt may well not ask its members to take their own lives i wonder what the wtbts will ask them to do.. notice these quotes from the december 15th watchtower for 2007:.
page 18 paragraph 15:.

I can see it in my sister. She is feeling extremely encouraged and special with the new members only WA coming out. She's feels more chosen and on the road to everlasting life. All of us out here can just sit around and wait to die. Its a really sick outlook she has, extremely scary. I have to be very careful what I say, while attempting to expose the WA as money hungry men battling for more power and money. The JWs have set up their kingdom on earth at bethel HQ, where they sit on millions of dollars deciding how and where to reap the rewards. And I will bet no JW knows anything about the massive court settlements the WA has paid out to hush up the cases and keep them out of the press.

It surprised me when I heard (of all people) the late princess diana, she said her life in the royal family resulted in the deconstruction of her personality and her self-esteem cut in half. I thought what an accurate description of what my JW parents sought to do in my case. The person is left with nothing and you feel trapped in your situation. I feel a lot of JW children are also trapped in a JW home, isolated from real people, association, activities, sports, and prevented from simply enjoying being young.

This forum gave me the courage to walk away from the JW cult once and for all. I have not regretted my decision. I wish this forum had existed 10 yrs ago!! oh well, i am learning more now from this site than from anything I learned in a kingdom hall.

Frankly, I don't hear any love out of this article. I hear discipline, conditioning, training, correction, control. Are we talking about people here or livestock? Maybe strict training and discipline is sound advise for raising a good stockhorse, but for children?
Also no mention of developing a child's creativity, expression in music or the arts, what about physical activity other than walking at a slow crawl door to door, then sitting home all day waiting for another mtg? Sounds like they are raising a bunch of little cult-controlled religious zealots - yep - the way I was raised, and it was hell everyday. They talk about "social skills" and talking with people, that means complete isolation from society and "talking" with people in a controlled setting in a KH or in servitude bothering people door to door. This truly warps a child's mind and development.

My thought too, Gopher! It seems the members only version is telling the JWs they are already "in" for the new system. It will make those in attendance feel truly privileged, selected, while encouraging others to get baptized ASAP (including children) or die at the destruction right around the corner!
