I have been wondering and trying to find some information into whether the WTBS has ever played the race game. When I see pictures of the society of old, all I see is white people. I don't see any blacks, asians, hispanic, or mixed (black and white or whatever) couples. Since the WTBS was also around during the turbulent times of racial uprisings, I wanted to know if there is anything out there where the society practiced segragation and then changed their mind about it (like they do about anything and everything else). I guess that you can say that I find it hard to believe that the JW's were that revolutionary in welcoming people of all races to worship together in the early years and then some.

YOU "THINK" YOU KNOW.....BUT...YOU DON'T KNOW!!
by Terry inthe door to door work is a sham.. the central activity of the watchtower bible and tract society is not spreading their so-called "messege" about the kingdom of jehovah established in the heavens in 1914. that's a load of propaganda.. the door to door activity is feckless in producing converts.
in fact, it is an immense failure of mammoth proportions!.
but, it is a diversion.

I was discussing some of these very same points to my wife just the other day. If they Witnesses were trying to gain more people into the organization, then something like community events or a hospital would surely get them some attention. But instead, they do nothing. They would rather ambush you at a gas station or super market (Parking Lot Witnessing) into present the Watchtower and Awake magazines. I don't get it all. It doesn't make any sence to me.
Terry, you are on to something brother! Just where does all of that money that the WTBS gains goes? Great questions! -

Baptism and At What Age?
by karnage ini have seen and noticed that most people who are raised as jw's get baptized at a young age.
ages like 14-19. how is it that someone can dedicate their life to jehovah at these ages, when maturity is still in development?
this seems to be something that jw's push and practice on a regular basis.

My sister was baptized at 14 or 15, soon after that... she was having sex in the back seat of cars, smoking and God knows what else. She is now DF'd and living with her partner (she's a lesbian). I remember her ramping up her studies and pressing hard towards baptism because her associates were all doing it and she liked a Ministerial Servant in the congregation.
She regrets thinking it out a little more. -

You wouldn't let someone get married at those ages, then why would anyone let them get baptized at these ages? No wonder why the disfellowshipping numbers are so high. I'm not bashing anyone who got baptized at a young age, it is just something that boggles my mind.
I stopped studying for baptism at 18 years old. I am glad that I didn't make that step. What age did any of you get baptized and why did you do it? -

Confessing to the elders...
by tan inhas anyone ever had to confess their sins to the elders...left out some of the details or "other gross" sins...but wondered if you were truly forgiven of your sins?
or was reproved and given back your priviledges but knew that you didn't tell everything.
how did you feel afterward?

First of all, there is no forgiveness. Second, who in their right mind would just approach the elders and confess to anything?!

My dad used to physically and mentally abuse my mom when I was growing up. There were times when we either went to the meeting or didn't go because of how bad my dad would beat her. My dad was a dedicated and baptized brother. He held a gun to her, beat her in the face like she went 5 rounds with a professional boxer, and he cheated on her like it was his official duty. The elders never did anything or say a word about my father's actions. This had always troubled me.
In my late teens, when my mother had had enough, she finally broke down and snapped. She had a relationship with another man and soon the marriage was into divorce. When the elders became aware of my mother's relationship outside of the marriage, then they called her into the back room (I am sure that many people here if not everyone is familiar with "the back room"). One night after a meeting, they interrogated her (like she was a criminal), and then they questioned my sister, brother, and me. None of us gave them any information. We understood what was going on and why things were happening the way that they were. I've always found it interesting how they were all of a sudden interested when my mother stepped out... but when my dad was doing it, nothing was ever said.
My mother was df'd for her affair and my parents were divorced. My dad was df'd about 6 years prior, but not for his abuse of my mother or any of us (the kids). My mother has been reinstated after a short 3-4 year break. -

I'm a gourmet chef, so I always get roped into making the Christmas dinner. I think that I am going to go with a nice ham and make a sweet sauce to go with it. I'm not looking to get too complicated this time. I'm still hurting from Thanksgiving and I cook all the time anyway.
