I'm so sorry for you and your sister. When I wrote that I was relieved that it wasn't cancer on your other thread, I was, but I was quite ignorant as to what Lupus was. I asked my Mom about it, and its much more severe than I could have imagined. I'm so sorry for you and your family, its heartbreaking. The fact that its chronic is killer. It's ok that your angry and hurt, there's no redeeming thing about devastiting news like that. There can still be life though, and joy, keep your head up girl! I'm thinking of you and your sister tonight. It's a shock to the system, but your sister can still have a great life, there's nothing positive about the disease, just hope and possibility in spite of it.
all the best to you and your family

Hello The Stranger,
fan of Camus?
If you're studying with the Witnesses, you should stop.
If you're here to issue challenges, you should know this is a board of ex-Jehovahs Witnesses. -

Am I Being Silly?
by love2Bworldly ini have always loved accents, whether they're british, irish, scottish, australian, whatever.
i think they're so cute.
i have always wanted to date someone with an accent (of course they have to have a lot more than the accent going on).. now that i am to be divorced soon, i keep thinking next time i date (won't be for a while--i am just daydreaming about what i want) i want to meet someone with an accent.. since i don't have a lot of money to travel to other countries, am i just being silly?.

Couldn't agree with you more! I heart english accents. English and Scottish probably my favorite , followed by maybe Spanish--Castilian.
Well, perhaps if you can't travel overseas easily one will just happen to travel YOUR way. I mean, you live in California, that's a pretty big destination I think. Not like where I live...
I don't think it's silly at all and uhm *nudge nudge*....looky here I think I spot some posters waving a the Union Jack on this very forum....perhaps...
perhaps you don't even have to travel (at first) to meet someone :) -

I'd want to have the ability to learn all roughly 5,000 dialects existing today, as well as the ancient tongues.
The ability to spontaneously appear at the front of all amusement park lines. Like a celebrity does.
I would like to manipulate my senses, so that say for instance I was forcefed a saltine cracker by an antagonist, It would taste like Godiva Chocolate instead.
I'd like to defy most of the physics we have pinned down. I'll breathe underwater, thank you and not get crushed by the pressure. Gravity is nice when I want to break dance (which I can now easily learn thanks to superadvanced rapid kinetic intellegicence) in various clubs around the world (which I now get into with my powers of teleportation). Would just think of a city and *poof* I'm there. I could grow, shrink, change appearance at will, transmogrify into something cool like a White Tiger, but only when I'm doing menial tasks amongst the ordinary people for my own amusement. Like ordering a sandwich or getting my nails done. Now smellsgood,,,now a purple octopus.
The ability to do nothing and get paid for it. Like Paris Hilton.
And finally, the ability to appear on T.V. when someone who is really getting under my skin is on and say for the millions of other viewers wishing the same thing "please would you be so kind as to never assault my (highly tuned) melodic senses so cruelly ever again Mr. Stapp?" or..Mr. Matthews *ducks the swings*
There's probably many more. Become irresistably attractive to Johnny Depp? ok -

lola,
I saw your other thread on your sister and I am sooooo relieved for you all that it isn't something terminal or greviously life threatening like leukemia! I don't know much about Lupus, I know its in a class of Auto-immune disorders like graves disease, but knowing and having that sure diagnosis will help you so much in the treatment and management of it. Thank goodness! I'm happy for you and your dear sister that it isn't something worse, although from her symptoms you described she probably falls on the more severe side of it I should think. I hope you all are able to treat it and she is able to feel better very soon!
From a fellow 22 yr. old female with younger siblings, I know how worried you must have felt.
God bless for your care and love for her.

Anyone had a breast reduction?
by bluesapphire ini'm a short 5'2" latina.
i have this tiny frame.
i finally shed the 20 lbs.
-
smellsgood
oh, girl, tell me when you got a REAL problem :) j/k
Congrats on losing the 20 lbs, it's tough to do! When I drop any weight, FIRST place I lose it is, er, from my rack. It'd be ideal if it were possible to do a breast swap, as I am 5'8" and the size you want to be.
Are you positive you are a DD though? Remember Oprahs bra challenge thingy? Most people don't actually know their real size, and you might be larger than you think! I believe Oprah thought she was a double D, but turned out to be an E,,,for enormous.
The only people I know who have had the breast reductions are famous girls. Like Drew Barrymore or Christina Ricci. I think they probably look better now. I know some girls who should have it. I'm talking size G women. Woah.
I would be very careful to find an extremely well qualified surgeon, even if it cost extra. I doubt insurance would cover any of it.
Your husband may like them, but your the one that has to live with them, and if they get in your way...he wouldn't like to have two melons (sorry) on his chest that are difficult to keep still, and bounce around excessively when your trying to run or whatever. I would find that annnoooooooooying too! Its your choice, and the size you want to be would probably so much more manageable for you and your frame, it'd probably be perfect. Much more comfortable for you, and probably easier clothes shopping I should imagine. If it will improve your quality of life, then heck yes it is worth the money!
There are risks to any surgery like that, so you have to be careful. There is some scarring, but its really not that bad. There's pictures you can see that on. :)

"Imagine Eva Longoria with double D's!"
I think you might make some guys head explode -

Hello Scotsman, Welcome!
Scotsman: Once again a few mention WT articles from 1914 etc. WHAT????????
Were any of us even born then????? Digging up the past. Give us a break please.
smellsgood: I may be wrong, but wasn't the Bible written thousands of years ago, perhaps as far back as 1,500 B.C.? Isn't that the book upon which supposedly the Jehovah's Witnesses base their beliefs? And what of the Watchtower digging up the "past" of Christendom? Wasn't it supposedly the 4th Century when Constantine and his ilk first "paganized" Christendom? So if it weren't for them nosing around in the past they wouldn't have made those shocking discoveries to begin with.
Well, were any of us born then? The WT went ahead and "dug up the past." They should have given it a break, please.
Something from 3,500 years therefore is "truth" and "relevant" but something from less than 100 years ago from the "truth" society is NOT? Interesting.
Scotsman: One that is mentioned is the "apparent" 1975 prediction.
My mother was brought up in the truth and lived through the 1975 in the truth. She knew nothing of a 1975 prediction nor did anyone else in her local congregation. The misrepresentation of 1975 seemed to be sporadic, depending where people lived.
So lets say it for old times sake - The Watchtower Society, The Governing Body nor the Faithful Slave ever said that 1975 will definately be the end. The year was mentioned from assembly platforms and in a few articles but never ever ever was it said that that particular year would absolutely, unquestionably be the start of armageddon.
smellsgood: Ok then. Now, here are some predictions from an Organization other than the WT society about coincidentally that specific time period, the '70s. So, what would you think about these statements which were published from a Biblical perspective? Are they saying these things WILL come to pass? Are they saying that GOD will act at that time? Where are they basing their authority? Is this "definite" language? Since these are "predictions" remarking that GOD will ACT at that time, would we then be able to caste them as PROPHECIES? How would you have reacted if you had been a member of this organization at that time? Would those who read these statements be coming to conclusions regarding this time period because they were inferring their own expectations into the text, or because they were being led to believe what was written?
"This seven years of national trouble takes us-if the dates which appear so definitely indicated by these prophecies are correct-from 1965 to 1972!" (The Plain Truth, Herman Hoeh, April 1956, p. 22.)
"Frankly, literally dozens of prophesied events indicate that this final revival of the Roman Empire in Europe-and its bestial persecution of multitudes of Bible-believing Christians-will take place within the next seven to ten years of your life!" (The Plain Truth, Rod Meredith, Feb. 1965, p. 48.)
"Bible prophecy indicates that the final attack on the U.S. and Britain by this coming 'Beast' power could easily be launched perhaps as early as the spring of 1972-or earlier ...." (The Plain Truth, Rod Meredith, May 1965, p. 45. )
"The 'Day of the Eternal'-a time foretold in more than thirty prophecies-is going to strike between 5 and 10 years from now!... I am not writing foolishly, but very soberly, on authority of the living Christ!" (The Plain Truth, Herbert Armstrong, Feb. 1967, p. 47.)
"It doesn't take an understanding of certain 'Bible doctrine,' or necessary agreement with it, to admit to yourself candidly that what Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong was faithfully proclaiming back before, during and right at the close of World War II, and what he and others who have since come to join him in this great work of God have been proclaiming day in and day out ever since-is actually happening before your very eyes!" (The Plain Truth, Ted Armstrong, Nov. 1962, p. 21.)
"We do not set dates!... Yet in our human zeal and enthusiasm for getting this greatest mission on earth done, we have a few times come close to it or appeared to-and that we deeply regret...if we...appear to set a date, I feel I do not need to apologize!" (Tomorrow's World, Herbert Armstrong, Feb. 1972, p. 31.)
smellsgood: Are those positive staments? With statements like "BIBLE PROPHECY indicates"
"if the dates which appear so DEFINITELY INDICATED by these PROPHECIES"
Scotsman: Show me a serious alternative to Jehovah's organisation? Jehovahs-witness.com??????? I do not think so.
smellsgood: If I were to show you positively that you were drinking toxins that were slowly debilitating your nervous system, would you so absurdly ask me if I had an "alternative" handy BEFORE you would aquiesce to quit drinking it, or would you quickly put the toxin down and then worry about the next move later. First get out off the plane that is sure to go down in flames before worrying how you are going to continue on your way.
This is just a ruse and a stumbling point that organizations with exclusive claims use anyway. Why is it Jehovah's Organization? Why did He choose the Society,,,and WHEN WAS THAT AGAIN?? :)
Scotsman: Its ironic really - the web address is www.jehovahs-witness.com and yet it is a club for non witnesses.
smellsgood: Its mostly ex-witnesses, but I myself have never been a JW for a day in my life. It is however, miles more informative that watchtower.org I assure you. :)
keep coming back Scotsman,

1975 "Explained" by a JW
by Honesty inhave you ever thought about the isrealites beginning to enter the promised land and how they then had to turn back and wander in the wilderness for 40 years?
have you ever wondered if there is a modern day parallel in our time?
perhaps 75 was our approach to that promised land that we then had to turn back from and "wander"... .

Or how about what was said by Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the WorldWide Church of God, and his sidekick, Garner Ted Armstrong said in 1956 which was built up in the proceeding years about '75 ('72-'75)
"1975 In Prophecy," Armstrong wrote; "But now you're going to peek into the surprising future, exactly as it will happen! Not what men PLAN - but what GOD SAYS! ... very soon - of this very present generation - of all people you know now - ONLY ONE THIRD of them will be left alive!" He went on to say that this surviving third would be "uprooted from their homes like cattle as slaves to Europe, and probably some to South America," and "Yes, millions of lukewarm, inactive professing Christians will suffer martyrdom - and before the anticipated push-button leisure year of 1975 draws upon us!"
Also::
"This seven years of national trouble takes us-if the dates which appear so definitely indicated by these prophecies are correct-from 1965 to 1972!" (The Plain Truth, Herman Hoeh, April 1956, p. 22.)
"Two years ago, Mr. Herman Hoeh showed in this magazine how God's word prophesied disease epidemics would strike the United States in two short years! Those epidemics are beginning now! And they will grow much worse! God prophesies that finally, within the next fifteen years, fully one third of our whole population will die of disease and famine!" (The Plain Truth, Garner Ted Armstrong, Dec. 1957, p. 23.)
1967, p. 47.)
And in 1967
"Right now, just prior by not more than five to seven years, to the coming terrible Day of the Lord, the living Christ has moved swiftly to open the all-important door that has been closed since the days of the original apostles!
"...Almighty God has opened to The World Tomorrow [broadcast], exclusively, the gigantic door of superpower radio from Jerusalem!... We have signed with the Hashemite Government of Jordan, a five year binding contract...." (Co-worker letter, Herbert Armstrong, April 17, 1967, pp. 3-4.)
For just a glimpse at what was Prophesied....and then, for just a "glimpse" at how it was explained when it did not come to pass::::
"[We prophesied in] fifteen years the U.S.A. will no longer be a nation, and 15 years has come and gone. Was that a mistake or not" ? Yes! But why get violently emotional about it? We were utterly sincere at the time it was said! We all believed it, and furthermore that kind of copy never caused anybody to lose out on salvation, or drop out of church, or make a wrong move in their personal lives, or to throw the word of God to the ground...."
"Only moments later Ted all but contradicted himself by offering justifiable reasons for a person to "get violently emotional" about a prophecy that failed. He began to name a few of the "wrong moves" that had been made in personal lives:"
"But '72 was the date that, you know, everything hinged on that. Nobody saved any money, nobody bought any property, nobody thought about laying up for his children's children.... We [thought we] were all going to flee or be taken away to a place of safety and everything would be left behind so [we thought]: "Why put any roots down?"

er..that's not all too surprising
I think I should point out that the Jews do not believe in the New Testament whatsoever, and the Muslims have their own ideas about Jesus.
Hence, at least Israel as a Nation would not be using "Revelations" as any sort of unconscious or conscious "script"

Free candy are you kidding me? Every year til 15 or so, then your too old as a teen. Luckily now I have younger siblings, so I work them, I try to fill a large box in the car. Trick or Treating is the only reason I've ever gone door to door :)
What we've learnt is that to travel to the more "affluent" part of town is worth it, since many will give out full size or even king size candy bars!! woohoo
