Isn't it mad how the WT says that these books will allow demons into your house?
Paul
i have always wondered what exactly is in the koran, apparently it's written in poetry.. obviously there is a lot of negativity towards the koran from the west, yet many practices that are condemned are not found in the koran, for example women wearing the hijab.. so now that we can read what we want without being told what we can and can't have in our library i thought i'd order a few books.
i just received the gnostic gospels, i have ordered some buddhist transcripts, the book of mormon and the koran from amazon.. ....and why not???

hi all.. i just want to post here about my first sober christmas.
i posted here first of all about my alcoholism back in january.
i tried to control drinking for around 3 years prior to this, but last december was a p**s up.
Thanks guys...merry christmas to you all.
This Christmas is going to be so different. On the one hand i feel as though i am missing out as everyone is drinking, on the other hand i will have a good time doing other things. I have bought my boys tickets to a big football (soccer to you American types) game, involving our home town team and another local rival team, i am so looking forward to that with my boys.
This Christmas is going to be different, that's the best way to describe it.

with lots of xmas song programmes etc, what tv programmes can jws safetly watch?
You can probably count on one hand the amount of tv programmes a JW is allowed to watch.

i have a friend who's emigrated to vancouver this year.
a few days ago he invited me over for next year, i am seriously considering it.
i have looked on the net about it, but wondered from anyone here who's been there or living there what's it like?
Looks and sounds good. May well give the place a visit, especially with free lodgings.

recently i got back in touch with a da'd friend that i grew up with.
i'm going to focus on one part of her email because i think it's relevant to this board.
when i mentioned that i had been on an ex-jw website, she writes:.
I can see what she's saying. Sometimes i wonder whether by reading these types of boards, keeps me stuck in JW thoughts. It's good that some people do not need these boards, JW's have left the organisation for years, long before the internet and managed to move on with their life. I have a couple of ex jw friends who cannot understand why i read these boards.

have posted this on the other thread but just making this one as well:
i need to let you know that dad passed away this morning at 8am.
he fought so hard but in the end they could not get his blood pressure to rise and he died of heart failure.
So sorry for your loss.

I have taken up scuba diving and it looks like there are dive sites there too, as well as whale sight seeing trips.

Hi all.
I just want to post here about my first sober Christmas. I posted here first of all about my alcoholism back in January. I tried to control drinking for around 3 years prior to this, but last December was a p**s up. Christmas week itself blended one day into the other. Then on January 3rd i had my final drink and went to Alcoholic's Anonomous for my first meeting. I would like to say that was my last drink, but it wasn't. Since then i tried on two different occasions to limit my drinking for night's out but it didn't work.
So finally on May 30th i resigned myself to the fact that i couldn't control my drinking and had my last drink. Since then i have lost my desire to have a drink and enjoy sobriety.
This Christmas is a funny one being sober. In all honesty it's just different, it isn't any better, it isn't any worse. I did think this time last year there is no way i can go through Christmas without a drink, it's easier than i thought. I went out on Saturday night to a nightclub with friends, bumped into lots of people i hadn't seen for a while, the Saturday before Christmas brings everyone in my home town out. It was funny seeing others drunk, yet i hadn't touched a drink and didn't want to. Some people were surprised and wondered how and why i would want to go through Christmas without a drink, i do not explain the situation to people, just that i prefer not to drink as i have drank heavily in the past.
So as for tomorrow i have brought some wine to give to my cousin at who's house i am going to. It was weird buying it, but it's all for gifts. One or two there will drink, but i ain't missing out. One things for sure i will miss out on the quality of life i now have, if i do take a drink, as for me one leads to another.
So from this sober guy, Merry Christmas!! I will be able to remember this one.
