  the other night during the announcements between the ministry school and service meeting there was a letter read.

  i pretty much tuned out the whole thing but what did catch my ear was the request that $4.50 per publisher be contributed by each cong.

  for whatever bogus committee the letter was dealing with (sorry i cant be more specific, i honestly dont remember what it was for).

  It's not per month, it's just a one time shakedown for the KHAA. The elders were upset over what happened with the CO resolution ($8.50/publisher), because people were putting the money that was supposed to go into the local cong. fund into the WWW box. So they didn't get enough money and had to "dig into their own pockets". I read this announcement and they wanted me to make sure I harped on people for not putting the money where it was supposed to go.

  The voting is all a show anyway. Resolutions are already passed.

  las vegas, nevada (ap) -- the fugitive leader of a polygamist sect has been arrested in southern nevada, the fbi said tuesday.. warren steed jeffs, 50, was taken into custody after he and two other people were pulled over late monday by a nevada highway patrol trooper on interstate 15 just north of las vegas, fbi spokesman david staretz said.. the leader of the fundamentalist church of jesus christ of latter-day saints was wanted in utah and arizona on suspicion of sexual misconduct for allegedly arranging marriages between underage girls and older men.. since may, jeffs has been on the fbi's ten most wanted list, with a $100,000 reward offered for information leading to his capture.. the other two people in the vehicle were identified as one of warren jeffs' wives, naomi jeffs, and a brother, isaac steve jeffs, both 32, staretz said.

  they were being interviewed by the fbi in las vegas but were not arrested.. jeffs was in federal custody in las vegas pending a court hearing on a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, staretz said.

  His cult has ruined the life of many young women (via forced marriage) and young men. I read an article on the "Lost Boys," young men in their teens who were ousted from the FLDS cult for trivial offenses. It was all a scam so the old dudes wouldn't have any competetion for racking up more wives. I hope the evidence is strong enough to convict Jeffs.

  it seems to me that all the jw's i knew while going to the meetings, weather they were spiritually strong or weak, never criticized.

  they were like real sheep.. i used to always bitch about the length of the meetings and the time of the meetings and so on.....when i drove the brothers back home in my car or talked to them in private.. naturally i would only say this to my closer jw friends or those i knew wouldn't squeal on me.. .

  most everyone knows that jehovahs witnesses do not celebrate birthdays.

  the reason is that there are two examples given in the bible of birthdays and bad things happened both times.

  Another argument against birthdays is that it gives "undue attention" to one person on that day. I would've agreed with that (though come to think of it, I'm not sure where giving attention to any one person moreso than others is unscriptural). But then there was last Sunday's article. The GB wants worship from the r&f, because after all, you can murmur against God, but if you murmur against the corporations or their representatives, you're a dead man.

  i finally got my hands on the wt library on cd (2005) and searched for myself.

  i wanted to see if there is any indication that the society allows dna evidence as one of the "two or three witnesses" requirements when it comes to testimony in child molestation or rape cases in the congregation.

  we all know that molesters and rapists usually make sure that nobody is watching when they work their evil.

  Notice the wording they use, like "increasingly complicated" and "bewildering." The tone is meant to make the r&f feel like DNA is "too complex" and therefore untrustworthy as a witness (which goes into the larger bias that anything "simple" must be better than anything complex).

  That's why people go to college to learn forensic science. Oh I forgot! Higher learning is EEEEEVIL.

  The results make sense to me, at least for firefighters. He's in uniform. He has to be strong and dependable. His job is to rescue people from scary situations. Plus, there's that longstanding stereotype that firemen are attractive. I'm not sure where that comes from, but it is powerful.

  Maybe this is what the big announcement is going to be. Maybe they are going to institute a new policy of surveilence.

  Sort of like the U.S. Patriot Act, the Society will institute: The Theocrat Act.

  That would be absolutely fantastic. They could set up an anonymous "tipster" line like the cops have. Reward successful tips with more Privileges TM and punish the bogus leads with loss of Privileges TM .

  I agree that older folks need a social network. They might not get the attention they deserve within the hall, but at least there is a hall there. Better than being alone and neglected.

  Work on getting the young people out. They're the ones who could risk being stuck inside the org for a few decades!

  Good stuff. Dash in some OT scriptures about how "the eye of Jehovah is everywhere" and use a bit more tortured "theocratic" phrasing. Then you'll be in league with Scully and AlmostAtheist.
