What are you now ?
by moomanchu incurious as to what exwitnesses have become or believe.
i haven't joined any religous group and do not attend any services.
(have visited a church's service)

I don't have a clue anymore, i did look up agnostic recently in the dictionary and decided that bests describes what i think or not, but having seen that other thread on the meaning of the word i think i won't post on that one!I do know that whilst i would probably let my child go to the church services at school eventually, i have no intention of EVER going near organised religion myself.

grandparents day in latest Awake!
by becca1 inin the new awake!
there is a short experience of a young sister who said: "we don't celebrate granparents day".
what is the basis for this conclusion?
-
dobbie
When i asked why jws couldn't celebrate fathers day although it hasn't got 'pagan' origins, i was told its because they don't follow man made traditions and also it's seen as glorifying that person for the day(?!) in place of God!(I will be definately doing it next year!), so maybe grandparents day is viewed similarly by them.

Do Your Medical Records Still Say That You Are A Jehovah's Witness?
by BluesBrother ini raise the question because mine did - until thursday that is.
a routine follow up review appointment was my opportunity to place a 'living will" in my records .
the doctor said "you are a jehovahs witness aren't you" .

I decided to write to my doctor a couple of months ago now and tell her that myself and my children would have blood and to erase the fact that we were jws - but i was shaking while i did it and it took me several weeks to post it but i'm glad i did. I didn't include my husband cos thats up to him, i asked if he minded me including the children and his reply was 'haven't much choice, you'll do it anyway' so i did!I was shocked though when i told a jw friend and she said that was no big deal and she had'nt even told her dr in the first place!I guess shes not 100% sure herself though won't admit it!

Possibly overdone topic - panda world
by XU inwhat did you think you would be doing in the paradise?
like after all the garbage was picked up and the 2nd dead were buried?
i thought i would get a house with a creek running through it and play with animals.

To be perfectly honest i never had any expectations of being good enough to get there. All i hoped to do was to bring all my family into it to get them through(but now i'm sort of glad they did'nt want to know!)

What planted the seed of doubt that lead you to leave or think of leaving?
by NanaR ini've been thinking of this a lot lately.
the following experience ties my first doubt in with my present life.
as a backdrop to this, you should know that i was a 5th generation "raised in the truth" jw through my mother (her great-grandfather got "the truth" from pastor russell).

Welcome! Nana! what a moving story what a wonderful parent you must be! The very first doubt i had was the generation change, then for me too it was the blood issue with my prem baby who needed transfusions (which is apparently only a spoonful of blood in one that tiny!), which made my doubts grow so big that i knew whatever happened my next child would have blood if needed. That is now the main issue for me staying away, because whether the blood doctrine is correct or not (i am no scholar and haven't a clue) i will not risk my childrens life or that of any loved one ever again.

Britain Under Surveillance
by daystar infar from following the u.s.' lead, britain appears to be way ahead of the pack in spying on its own people.. brothers, is this all true?
how far will we, the masses, let this sort of thing go?
americans, if this sort of thing is allowed, and works, where do you think it will go next?.

Some things i don't find a problem such as the checks i had to have done to volunteer at my sons school, its to keep them safe after all. Also cameras round certain areas of town, at clubs etc as we've had quite a growing amount of violence here lately at those places. What does pig me off though is the amount of junk mail we get for credit etc when we don't even want it, and all because our details have been passed on.

did you listen to the kingdom songs on CD?
by dobbie injust wondering if anyone else had the collection of kingdom melodies on tape or cd and if you ever listened to them?i ordered the whole set of 9 cds 2 yrs ago and donated over 100.00 for them!
!was just thinking i could have bought a nice winter coat with that!i used to play them at home all the time, even in the car or when we had the group meeting at our house.i used to love one particular song cos it had a full orchestra and would play it over and over again.some of them were pretty cheesy though - one song was sung in opera style but not the words she she 'ahd' it all the way through - horrible!was anyone else as sad as me and did you actually pay for them?i regret it now cos they're all in the attic and can't bear to use them ever again..
