"Over the past three decades America's rivers, lakes and skies have been transformed. Acid rain levels have dropped 60 percent since the early 1990s; air quality has improved 91 percent since 1980 in terms of lead content. the Hudson River is much much cleaner that its been in 100 years".
When you add to that quote the expanding lifespan of humans in this generation, a pretty darn good case could be made that the world is getting to be a much better place to live.
It must be tough for those waiting for critical times to see such massive progress.

Yes, I care very much.
Individual members are victims of poor policy and beliefs. And if one follows the "Witness way" to the letter of the law they can be damaged emotionally, intellectually and even physically. I think one of the most dangerous aspects of the religion is when the Governing Body's sayings are put on the same level as bible teachings - things like moral guidance and other good things - (ie. not murder, not commit adultery, etc) and then one finds the saying of the Governing Body change or are wrong, then one begins to question everything about the bible, morals and other standards. This leads to some pretty messed up lives for some and for a few some pretty bad behavior. I am not suggesting that all fall into that trap. But it seems that the young people are really affected once they learn that all that they have been told to trust completely is not all true.
I have deep feelings for individual Witnesses, they are victims and do not have the opportunity to debate of question policy and beliefs. We help all that our circumstances allow us to do.

I have said similar. We lived in a moderate sized town with two congregations. Over a three year period there were 16 divorces (both congregations in total) and loads of other stuff. I worked for a company that had well over 300 employees and no divorces over the same period of time. A spiritual paradise... I think not.

Sweat Pea - give it a go (education). In our experience people with life experience do very well at university. There a few "know it all" but bottom line young people accept and respect those who better themselves.
And you are right, you as one person make a difference and are making a difference. Nice work!

so ive been wondering since i joined here...
by freedomisntfree inwhat is the benefit of the "fade out" i hear it get thrown around a lot here but is it a really a better way to go?
at least in my area people who dont go to meetings are treated pretty much the same as the diffed people might say hi to them in the mall but there not gonna be getting any wedding invites.so why fade out?
theres a lot of pain and drama involved in a da or df but thats the situation your in your cross to bear so to speak so why postpone or avoid it?

The way I think about it is, are there consequences to letting the WTBS control your life. In other words, if you DF/DA yourself are there family members or friends that you would like to see from time to time, if so, a DA/DF will not allow you that option. Do you have relatives who are witnesses that might graduate or marry and you would love to be there, the WTBS would say no.
I choose to control my consequences to the best of my ability. I realize that there is a strong argument against my position (that by playing along the WTBS ends up controlling you). But I will be damned if they tell me who to invite to dinner and if I can attend a relatives wedding or graduation.
It is is tough call. I admire folks who took a stand and I admire folks who use their thinking powers to survive.
