  hi folks as i have posted before i started a new job for better money and it is doing great.. i am so busy now i can't think of the time and my old customers from my former location ( here ) it has been great.

  one of my senior ladies brought me so much in the way of goodies we both just had to laugh.

  jake is upset as i will bring him there later.

  What were your reasons for becoming a JW?

  reasons, not excuses -- even valid ones (like, "i was ignorant, depressed, fooled").. yours in the sense that you can still own (to) them -- even though you now know the "answer" was wrong.. this obviously applies to those who became jws -- hence mostly not born-in, although some of the latter might admit to having chosen the jw way for themselves at a certain stage of their childhood or teenage years.. this question is triggered by a previous conversation with purplesofa on another thread:.

  i think most of us that came in and not born in were searching.

  our hearts were pure in our search.

  I'm the kind of person who needs to make sense of things - and at that time when i was 16 it was very intriguing to me that the bible, a book written so many years ago made sense.

  Good question blueblades. I was just thinking the other day that I hardly know anything at all about evolution, other than what I've been taught by the wts. I do remember as a dub my son urgently telling me to subscribe to New Scientist. I did subscribe for a few years and found that at most maybe only 1 article from each issue made a little sense. The pics were amazing though.

  i remember asking an elder once, "what do you think about meditation?

  " he responded that we should not relax and open our minds, as opening our minds can let demons in.

  i thought that seemed like a odd response, and looked it up in the watchtower, and sure enough he gave the societies views on meditation.

  Demons...

  i was raised in the jws.

  i could go on and on about what constitutes praying to, allowing, signs, etc.

  I have a question re Clam's point below

  At a development circle I was taught to open my chakras but with important emphasis on asking for protection. Since spiritualists are almost always going down the route of communication with spirits, all the ones I know take very seriously the threat of negative spirits and energies

  Now I personally feel completely safe and secure when meditating but want to know if you/Clam can expalin why the above is necessary.

  I'm wondering if what we call 'demons/negative spirits' is actually collective negative energy from all the hate/insanity around us that we as humans have produced over the years.
