By that logic we were never meant to be perfect and the garden of eden was a ruse.
That would completely invalidate Jesus' sacrifice since we were never worthy of redemption in the first place.
Not that I have a problem with that, but I'm enjoying the debate. =)

Taking One for the Team
by Perry inthe wts has figured out that if you bring jesus out once a year, and create a "showy display", then the rank and file will be sufficiently convinced that the jw's hold jesus as a central figure in their beliefs.
to anyone else, it can immediately be seen for what it is.
a publicity stunt.

Did You Feel "Good" When You Were Being Persecuted?
by minimus ini know that as a youngster, i felt pretty good about myself because i remained "faithful" and didn't eat birthday cake while everyone else was enjoying it.......i know of wives that came into the hall with a black eye "for jehovah" and were almost deified because of their "stand".
were you persecuted for righteousness sake?
how did it make you feel????

lol @ ex-nj-jw
My mother did the exact same thing one year.
Our house and car got egged so bad and they left the tract under the windshield wiper.
She never did that again. -

"Sir, what if God simply knows that we are not capable of handling absolute moral direction just as children are not capable of handling a very sharp kitchen knife? I mean he wouldn't be much of a God if he didn't have greater power in every way than us would he?"
If we are not capable of handling absolute moral direction, would the tree in the garden of eden have been a cruel trick? -

managing a mixed marriage - is it possible?
by gcc2k ini think one of the major obstacles i see in remaining in my marriage is how to manage the fact that my wife is "in" and i'm not.
i am a fader, not da or dfd (i've wanted to da for a long time but haven't, and haven't been dfd yet).
my wife is devout but not fanatic.

I can really empathize with you. The two of you really need to discuss religion and raising the kids. You could say: "How would you feel if I told you that you couldn't take the kids to the meetings or service" This would provoke a defensive reaction from her. "How do you think I feel with you not taking my beliefs into consideration?" You should know there where you stand. If she's really into making it work you two should be able to open a dialog and discuss compromise. But be willing to compromise. If she's willing to let you do Birthdays and Christmas (might opt for celebrating outside the house initially) you must be able to stomach the kids going to meetings and service. Neither is winning, neither is losing. That's the arrangement I have with my wife, but she has been inactive for a long time so the circumstance isn't identical. The key is to not let the kids see religion or holidays as something that makes mommy and daddy fight. In the end, both parents should support what their kids pick as their own course of life. Just my two cents.

Jehovah's promises conditional?
by 5thGeneration ina comment was made at my circuit assembly that bothered me.. "jehovah will keep his promises to you if you keep your promises to him.".
so now, i guess, jehovah can make a promise and recant it at any time?.
just bugged me.. .

I need some help....I don't understand
by confusedCatholic8 ini recently started dating a woman that has stopped practicing the religion of jehovahs witness.
i am very confused on so many things that this religion believes.
i would like some input from anyone out therer that can help me...i am a catholic and i have certain things about my religion i don't believe but i dont understand the whole idea that if you leave the jehovahs witness and have been baptized you are no longer allowed to talk to your family and friends of this religion.

Welcome!
That statement is somewhat true. When a baptized member leaves it is their JW family that is supposed to cut off association with non witness. They feel that they have the only true religion and if you are cut off from it completely (the shunning) you will come crawling back.
I haven't seen any person that left that agreed with this teaching. It is to shelter witnesses and to block anyone that would dare question their beliefs. -

THE BIG SWINDLE
by Terry inhttp://www.theatlasphere.com/columns/070323-sowell-swindle.php.
i try to give both sides of issues a fair read.. all of you who have been convinced by scientific evidence that global warming has been caused by man and can be stopped by man should read the above.. how about specific comments pertaining to the above for a change rather than simply policy wank rants??.
global warming swindleopinion editorial by thomas sowell - mar 23, 2007britains channel 4 has produced a devastating documentary titled the great global warming swindle.

I'm not sure what to think on this. Man was able to rip holes in the ozone layer with recklessness. I don't put global warming past their capabilities.

This post is going to piss off alot of theists here.
As described by the bible, Jesus sacrifice seemed to be no more of a play than redemption.
While in a human body, he did experience ridicule and torture. He had one thing going for him that no other human could claim.
Foreknowledge. This whole event had already been prophesied, he KNEW after death that he'd be raised. So he just followed the script. The huge difference between Jesus and a human that would undergo the exact same circumstances is a human would be put through that test with a hope of an afterlife.
No one person can KNOW what the afterlife is like. They face test and eventual death on the hope that they did everything right.
Jesus already knew. He knew he'd be raised, he knew that this torture was only momentary and could focus on going home.
That's like telling someone if they file for bankruptcy, you'll give them a billion dollars. Can you really call that self sacrifice?
He was sent to earth with one purpose: Fulfill prophesy by dying. He went to earth, he died, prophesy fulfilled.
Where was the sacrifice? At what point did he ever have anything to lose?
Bah, done ranting. -

Expel Demons By Using The Name Jehovah
by Beer Connoisseur inthe watchtower encourages its members to use the name "jehovah" when they encounter demonic influence.
when i look in the watchtower bible, early christians used another name.. mark 16:17. luke 10:17. acts 16:16-18 & 19:11-16. why would the watchtower use a different name?
have they gone beyond what is written?

Offended by this week's watchtower?
by Anony-Mouse init was about marriage.
personally, i think woman should be equals in a relationship, not the man as absolute ruler that listen's to his subject when it pleases him.
it just irritates me that women will never be considered truly equal in jws.

I always liked the "Large army of women" comments to hold them at bay.
Yes, you are weak and inferior, but there's alot of you! That's gotta count for something!
In my old hall most of the pioneer sisters were overweight so we called it the "Army of large women"
