Two sisters come a-callin!
by uncle al inlast month the spanish congregations were having their distric assembly and two sisters were in my neighborhood delivering an invitation to a neighbor.
the neighbor was not home but i was outside washing my car, so they come over because the older sister, in her 70's, knows me and wanted to say hello.
i took the opportunity to mention the fact that i haven't been to a meeting since 2006. she acted as if this was news to her.

Sorry to use that Jdub cliche' but it seems to fit. Last week I had opportunity to visit a nephew I had not seen in many years. He is a quiet young man, just 21 but knows who he is and stands up for what he believes. As a child he was close to my JW mother as she took an active interest in him. He spent most weekends with her and attended lots of meetings and got to know her JW friends. Circumstances changed and he moved out of state so has not seen Grandma for a long time but stilll cares for her deeply. I decided to be open with him that I was no longer JW and asked his feelings about the religion. He was quick to say 'I did some research and found I want nothing to do with them'
I asked why, 'because they would not give their own child blood, even their own blood, even if the child was dying' We went on to have an indept conversation and he explained a clear understanding of JW misguilded beliefs. He now attends a Christian Church with youth activites he is active in. They offer help to the elderly and homeless along with sports and music.
Long story short, he was kind of a 'lost boy' for a long time and I had heard he may have been studing with Jdubs so PHEW, that was a load off my mind. He is a thinking young man with a bright future and I hope to be closer to him in the coming years.

No Memorial For Ray Franz.
by Blue Grass ini've read on multiple threads that ray will not have a memorial service per his request and that he will be cremated.
on one hand this is good because it's confirms his sincerity and humility and shows he doesn't seek praise or attention.
it's more evidence that his books were written honestly and weren't written out of spite or for just monetary gain.

I will always consider Ray Franz a true champion. By his courage to breach the WT organization he saved thousand from a wasted life. His crisis of conscience revealed that organization as an arrogant supremacy. I am forever grateful of his boldness, spunk and valor in facing up to those cowardly old men in Brooklyn.
May his wife and close friends be comforted by all our words of admiration and respect toward him.
RIP Ray Franz

for those that married in the "truth"
by rockmehardplace inhow long did you date?
i was reading another post by exms and he mentioned three years.
in the area where i am at, three years would have never been accepted.

I was barely 17 had lots of friends but never dated. Met a pioneer bro, dated 1 mo, pushed to engagement, graduated high school, married 1 mo after my 18th Bday. So less than 1yr from Hello to Another One Bites the Dust. It didn't last. I stayed IN and dated a few other brothers here and there. I met a bro from England, kind of a fringe JW type, we got on well but not the marring type. He said something profound onetime, "JW's take more time to pick out a car than they do a marriage mate"

I remember it as a QFR sometime in the 90's. Their idiotic reasoning became one more brick in my wall against the WTBS

What's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?
by A.Fenderson inwhat's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?.
my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.
it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.

I have seem many of the films suggested, all excellent. The few I have not seen, note made to check out. No one mentioned 'Waking Ned Divine' one of my all time favs. Just a sweet and very funny film. I still laugh whenever I think of the 'expensive friuty soaps'
And I am thrilled to know there are others out there that like foreign sub titled films. Whenever I suggest one around here I get groans and rolling eyes. Where are you people when I need a movie date?

I had a close friend, inactive Jdub and she invited me as friend on FB so I accepted. When she saw the one and only XJW group I was a member of she spread the news to her whole JW family. Within 2days I got email from 7 people informing me they were shocked and offended that I would associate with XJW's and they consider me a bad association.
I was a little hurt but over it now and agree with Wildflower, do not allow a Jdub to control you. But if you just want to avoid problems figure out those privacy settings jiffy quick. Make sure you have everything under lock and key.....and still I think there are back doors that snoops can sneak into so watch your back.

As a lifelong Beatlemaniac I have a large collections of recordings, books and events. We all know the music and words to every song but until you see LOVE you have not experienced the magic of the Beatles. I knew I would enjoy the show but was not prepared for the moving, touching, psychedelic ode to the Fab Four. It was beyond anything I could have imagined, a beautiful sensual fantasy. It took my breath and tears streamed down from the emotional experience of beauty.
GO, I tell everyone I meet, GO! get the bus, train or plane, it is a MUST SEE!

I want to make it clear, I may live in the PNW, WA state and more years here as a Jdub than I care to remember but I'm originally from SoCal so all the Twin Peaks persona does not apply. I will admit there is something in the mold here that brings out the crazy in those so inclined.
