"broad scripture containing cases"
Sounds like a field service bag, Gopher. Maybe we're on to something here.
i had a good discussion saturday night with my witness wife about how the society is basically a modern-day version of the pharisees and how jesus condemned them in his day and how he would condemn the society today.
does anyone have any good points or any insight into comparing the society with pharisees?
anything you have would be helpful so i could get my thoughts together and figure out a way to approach this subject with her in the future whenever it comes up..

a witness cannot question anything from a critic's point of view.
wondering aloud why the watchtower says a certain thing can get you in trouble with the think police (the elders).
what things can you think of that are taboo for jws??
Think Critically...
Now that I've been away for so long, the mind-control has worn off...lol
I feel like the guards of the wicked witch of the west who came out of their spell after Dorothy killed her.

Ha...reminds me of that thread not too long ago about the ten minute prayer/talk at the end of the convention this year.

Ok, now how about the common response (like my wife gave not too long ago): "Yes, but there are so many more witnesses today and in an organization this big, there need to be rules to keep up the UNITY of the brotherhood."
My counter response is something like "so you're saying the Bible is insufficient...the principles and laws therein are not enough?"
Another related response has to do with Paul and the apostles sending letters to various congregations and how the Governing Body does the same today. My response includes that those letters then were accepted into Bible canon...but today they are not. Why?
in this organization, how can any witness express their disapproval of anything?
the society has.

again, I took matters in my own hands. And so should you.
I'm sorry. "True Christians" do not play war games.
Ok...ok. You all win. You've brow-beaten me into submission. Your hounding has achieved its measure of success. I will no longer play war games on my pc...well, more correctly, I will no longer admit to playing those games.
i am still working on my wife, some progress is being made, but it is slow going.. here is how i plan to reason with her regarding the 9/07 km article on "non-endorsed" methods of study.
feel free to use or adapt yourself, if you are in a similar situation.. .
suppose that one day a stranger calls the house when i am not at home.
sir82,
Thank you so much. This is exactly the line of reasoning I need to use on my wife.
This is like that "food at the proper time" thing, only for real. (Bite me, FDS)
the idea for this thread was sparked by seeing that a lot of guys thought that the latest km article would be a great talking point.
there are a number of jwd poster who have lived through the hell of having a wife who thinks it is the truth.
i am happy to say that i have been through it and survived.
So far, my wife is still in the "truth." She's making progress away from it such as:
The "no glass clinking" QFR seemed ridiculous to her.
She happily clinks glasses with me anytime.
Anywho, I'd love to hear what you have to share! Thanks!
i used to be here a real lot.
now i make about 15 posts , if that,.
per day and read a few other threads that interest me.
I avoid this place like the plague.
Ew...stay away from nvr; he has the plague!

I'm here about every weekday for an hour or two. Not so much on the weekend, though.

When passing the wine at the Memorial, suddenly get an itch on your lip and bring the glass dangerously close to your mouth while you itch it.
I quit!
Grow a beard. This is particularly effective if you are a woman.
Thank you both so much for those gems. LOL!
I have one a bit more serious and real...I know of this happening:
-become part of the double-lifers and never say a word to the elders betraying the others in the circle of trust. Our younguns were quite successful at this and even had the CO stumped. He asked around trying to find someone to infiltrate and spill the beans. I kid you not.
