Small joys
by heybaby inyou know how there are somethings that give you so much pleasure or joy?
it doesn't have to be anything amazing or huge, but for some reason it makes you so happy for those few moments.
some of mine are drinking coffee in the morning with my best friend at work, and the smell of an open fire (it reminds me of being a young child at my grandparents' house).

My Son's Shunning begins......So Sad
by nomoreguilt inin an earlier thread i spoke of my younger son going to move in with his girlfriend, non jw.
he's 30, baptised, divorced hasn't been to meetings in three years and in good standing.
so, yesterday i had the opportunity to help him move.

I see Dawg's point. If we don't stand up for what is right, the jws in our lives will never understand just how wrong shunning is. IMHO, taking the apologetic route with your jw son may get him to thinking. If you say something like, "Son, I know I raised you to think shunning was a good thing, but with age and experience, I have realized it is very wrong. I'm sorry that I did that to you. But now that you're a grown man, I hope you will consider thinking for yourself. What good will it to to shun your brother? Do you really believe it is the Christian thing to do?"
Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

**** That's a bunch of BULL. And anybody buying it is full of the same.
I don't think lack of sympathetic response on the part of jws is bs. I experienced such as a jw when a dear "worldly" friend of mine died suddenly. The prevailing attitude was, "What are you crying about? At least he'll be in the resurrection".
As for the sister dying at the DC and the program continuing on...if she had been at a concert or any other large event, do you honestly think the event would have been canceled??? I think not. "The show must go on" is not just a JW thing.
No one asked for the dc to be canceled, but even at concerts or other events, there is usually an announcement made about what happened.

Bah Humbug?
by gloobster inmy parents more or less disassociated themselves from the borg when i was very young, and i kept going to the hall with my grandpa, an elder, until i was about 13 or so.
however, although my parents did not profess to be jehovah's witnesses any longer, they also did no move on to anything else--they were terrified of what their relatives and the jw's might think, and i don't know if they knew how to move on anyway.
anyway, i did not attempt to celebrate christmas until i was living on my own, i think when i was 21. .

Do you have kids? If not, once you do, your feelings about Christmas may change. Also if you get involved with your community and help to make someone else's holiday special, it may mean more to you.

Help? Advice?
by Lo ini was seeing a guy for a few months, both of our first ever 'real' relationships.
it was very special and we were very close, but when it came to intimacy i was very uncomfortable.
i was studying the bible with jws and seriously considering joining the, ahem, 'religion'.

Contact him and tell him that your thoughts on religion have changed and then ask if he is unattached. If you get together with him or anyone else for that matter, use protection against disease and preganancy. You both sound like pretty mature young people. Just take it slow, and only have sex when it is right for you.

My husband calls moments like the one you described, as having his "mind in Arkansas". It happens to everyone. On Thursday I went to the drive through at the bank. Instead of getting the little capsule out and putting my check in there, I just sat there staring, and thinking about what I was going to make for supper.

After all these years.........POOF! The desire is gone
by journey-on inafter all these years, i finally experienced this weird deep sense of calm, peaceful resignation.
i realized after desperately wanting my jw sister and the other witness family members to see the real "truth" about the organization that now i dont want to change them anymore.
i have absolutely no desire to pontificate on the absurdity of believing the doctrines and directives of the watchtower society.

She has her way of seeing things, and I have my way.
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with that. She doesn't see things her way. She doesn't have a way. She is under the control of a cult, and there's not much you can do to change that. If you haven't already, you may want to read Steven Hasan's Combatting Cult Mind Control. There's a whole system in helping people out, and I was surprised to learn that most natural instincts in that type of endeavor are wrong.

Would You Like to Talk to Rutherford on My Hell Phone?
by jamiebowers ini didn't have the patience to watch the whole video, but i thought the first few minutes were funny.

That guy would've scared me as an adult jw. I just thought the hell phone comment was funny. Sometimes I wonder if the "rabid apostates" like this are trying to get through to the public more than to jws. Think about it. Before you were a jw, wouldn't you wonder what happened to drive people to do crazy things like this?

grunge music was at it's height, rebellion was at the forefront.

If there was a mass exodus of young people in the 90's, do you think it could have something to do with the Internet?
