if there would be THAT short little question the JWs dont know an answer for, the cult wouldnt exist anymore. there actually ARE some questions, but they are usually answered by:
- worldy sources arent reliable, if they contradict JW theology
- most arguments against JW theology are just evil lies created by satan who let those arguments look like truth
- direct evidence from the bible is just misinterpretation of it. JWs have the only proper interpretation.
- critics at JW laws are tries of satan to lure JWs into disobeying god (like the blood thing)
its sad, but there is no ONE killer-question in JW land.

Need a good question to ask a JW at work
by claytoncapeletti inif you had to pick the best question that would disprove a scared jw belief what would it be?
i am not looking to debate the meaning of a scripture vs. a different scripture, rather i am looking for one of their beliefs that science and or history can totally dispute.
i may only be able to ask one question and there is a good chance that it will end up back to the elders.

by XJWNB innot sure if this has ever been brought up.

Showing love by sleeping with prostitutes and encouraging wrongdoing ...
by Frequent_Fader_Miles infurther to my earlier post about the conversation i had with a depressed jw friend who was baptized at 12 years old .... she knows i married a non-jw, but doesn't know of my fading.
she asked me whether i would help my husband with christmas shopping and gift wrapping.
of course my answer was yes, but i decided to avoid answering directly and pick her brain a bit.
-
Marcel
okay, lets be honest.
i wouldnt help my wife doing xmas shopping even if i wouldnt be in the "truth" anymore.
xmas is silly imho but if she wants it she can do it. but i wouldnt help (except some carrying or something). xmas is just another stupid invention by religious liars.
i think the argument of your jw friend is okay. its really something different whether you "accept" behaviour or help doing it. if you think someone risks his life by doing something its not smart helping him doing it. thats just the way JW see xmas and stuff. -

How often do "Jehovah's Witness" related thoughts consume your life?
by free2beme ini can honestly say, that several days and even weeks can go by, without me thinking about the witnesses.
i come here and skip the witness related topics, unless they mention something about changes or new understanding.
i just do not put a lot of focus on them, at this point in my life.

Marcel
every damn single day. i even cant stop reading the literature.
sometimes i even dream about it. i dreamt of getting DF'ed and shunned so often - its a nightmare.
virtually im already out of the org, but emotionally i suffer from my findings about the "truth".
still a long way to go i guess :/ -

LtC!
wow! i can feel you fully. im carrying that thinking with me since my late teenager times (im 26 now, baptised with 14). of course they growed over the time. unfortunately i didnt find the way out yet. i dumped all the goals within the congregation time by time (i was short before MS too) and im not visiting regulary anymore and have minimum service time effort.
i talked with my mother the other day about a similar topic but tried to keep it low. but of course she sensed the critical thinking of mine and was a lil upset. i have great fear of leaving. i fear losing everything thats important to me.
my wife knows everything about my thinking, but cant understand it either. its the truth and everything i say is viewed under the light of the doctrine only. its the same reasoning like your parents use. for every question there is a "just-add-water" watchtower response.
i can feel your pain, man!

Why don't Lurkers Post?
by sweet pea inwhen i came to the realisation that my whole religious upbringing was in question and i was led to this site, i immediately wanted to get involved - i could see that there was a lot of caring, spiritual people here that had created an amazing community and i wanted to be a part of that community (to release some pent up feelings and to maybe help others in some way) but having read that many of you guys lurked for months and in some cases years before you finally posted - i'm intrigued as to why?????
was it selfishness - couldn't bring yourself to commit and be a part of the community, you were just content to observe?
was it laziness?
-
Marcel
when i came here i posted IMMEDIATELY.
but i lurked around on another (in my monther tongue) a little while.
but not more than 1 week though :)
i think for most lurkers its FEAR which keeps them from posting. they want just a free peak into another world. without consequenzes. -

like in the video said: you dont need higher education because god will care. basically a guy who has no education and criminal conviction BUT serves as a pioneer will more likely get a well paid not exhausting job which just suits his needs perfectly as a graduated college student.
i think i dont have enough faith to try this. -

Birthdays and Job
by emptywords inthe societys stance on birthdays is either blatantly a lie, or a lack of bible knowledge on the part of the governing body!
while still attending at the kingdom hall i read job 1:4 where jobs childreneach had celebrations in his own day.
then read in job after his kids died and all his possession were lost where job cursed his own day.

*** w68 5/15 pp. 318-319 Questions From Readers ***
• Does Job 1:4 indicate that Job’s children celebrated their birthdays?—F. D., England.
No, that verse does not apply to birthdays. A little examination of the matter will show this. The verse reads: “And [Job’s] sons went and held a banquet at the house of each one on his own day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and drink with them.”
In the English Bible the word “birthday” appears in Genesis 40:20, where we read of the birthday celebration of the pagan Pharaoh of Egypt. Consulting Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, one will see that “birthday” is a compound of the two Hebrew words yowm (meaning, a day [as the warm hours], whether literally or figuratively) and hullédeth from yalad (meaning, to bear young). However, in the Hebrew Scriptures the word “day” (yowm) is often used alone, referring simply to some day. This distinction between “day” and “birthday” may be noted in Genesis 40:20, where both expressions appear: “Now on the third day [yowm] it turned out to be Pharaoh’s birthday [literally, ‘the day (yowm) of the birth (hullédeth) of Pharaoh’].”
At Job 1:4 hullédeth does not appear; only yowm is used in the Hebrew text. So it speaks of Job’s sons’ doing something “each one on his own day,” not ‘each one on his own birthday.’
The Bible does not go into detail as to what occasioned the banquets. It may have been that at a particular season, such as harvesttime, the seven sons held a family gathering, and as the feasting made the week-long circuit, each son hosted the banquet in his house “on his own day.” Or the feasts could have been of the nature of family reunions held at different times in the year. This picture of a warm and happy family gathering, in contrast to the wild celebrations marked by dissipation and overindulgence in food and drink on the part of ones who have no respect for God, is further indicated by the fact that the sons considerately invited their sisters.
of course that doesnt forbid birthdays. there is not a single scripture in the bible which forbids birthdays.

As a JW, did you ever stand for the national anthem ...
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inmy conscience wouldn't allow me to do otherwise.
after all, this is the country that schooled me and fed me.
i use all the infrastructure here, and am entitled to all rights and benefits that any other citizen was entitled to.
-
Marcel
i never did and i never would. its disgusting.
anthems and standing up for them is not simple "showing respect" for your country. its some kind of religous worship and no human institution deserves this (not the WTS nor any country). after all, you cant pay the COUNTRY itself respect since its only rock and stones (you could sort your garbage instead). you worship the leaders, the ideology and stuff.
in my opinion being a good citizen and work hard is WAY more better.edit: seems to be a great deal in the US, right?! it always scares the hell outta me that there are still such countries on earth. havent we learned something in the 20th century?
