convention etiquette
by karvel infirst post, not sure if this is in the right section....anyway, last night's service meeting included a part about the upcoming district convention.
the usual take notes, make sure your teenagers sit with you, blah, blah, blah, was there but then they mentioned something new.
apparently now you have to wear your suit and lapel all weekend if you stay at a hotel.

Where else in the world would you see a woman in a $300. dress craning her neck a foot and a half away from her body to eat her yogurt in an arena where a week before hosted Slayer and Marilyn Manson? Only in BIZARROWORLD. The idea of not changing and wearing the badge is to keep good behaviour up by wearing the "good behaviour" clothes. I used to change in the car while we were stuck in the traffic jam of getting out of there. Those were the days...

This is all too strange for me to hear. My ex was an elder and was deleted for having an emotional affair over the phone with a married sister that he couldn't get a grip on. After he was deleted he told me he could never be an elder again. Maybe I am missing something.

my sisters are petty and sad
by itsallgoodnow insure, they are jws, but it's not about that.
they have never really cared about me.
they have always kept me out of their stupid little "club".

People who are truly happy don't act like that. You have something that they either want or know they can never have. You are right in thinking they are not your sisters. I think some people are here to test a personality trait out. Remember the opposite of love isn't hate, but apathy. But I do think that wanting the best for the other person, even if they never do understand what they have done, is the best for both you and for them. I hope things go well for you. Also, being a part of the JW community has possibly taught them firsthand how to act towards those who don't tow the line. There are those who are in for the guilt they have over how they have treated others in their lives, like it gives them continued permission to act superior.

They're just apostates trying to make us look bad
by NotaNess ini love the whole attitude and mind control that apostates telling experiences, facts and truths about being in the organisation, is just ex-witnesses trying to spread lies and make the society look bad.
(of course led by satan, right?).
i was told to not believe all that stuff on the internet about them, and i replied "i'm not, take the watchtower society website for example".

Some secular reference works, especially ones that don't referrence JWs, could really do a job on a JW. They would simply have no answer to a religion that walks like a duck, sounds like a duck...It's a beautiful thing when someone outside of the cult can make the cult look like a cult! My personal favorite: Steven Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control.

When you were in field service....
by lavendar indid you ever have anyone, at the door, say something to you that created a seed of doubt in your mind about the wts?
something at all that started you thinking "maybe i'm really not in the truth".
i would be interested in hearing about that.. thanks,.

If there was really a world-wide flood, why did the fresh water fish AND the salt water fish both survive?

If you have a lot of money and don't pioneer, it's a problem. If you pioneer, you can make as much money as you want.

i have known of older ones who have left the WT in their will and the relatives were furious after the fact. A KH in nearby Wisconsin that was thinking of closing up shop due to lack of membership also had a large contribution after someone died and built a new KH with the money. Most publishers don't contribute that much and young ones who are pioneers certainly don't. I felt that all of my time was taken up and I turned by life around by getting a small job so, no, they didn't get a lot of money from me in all of the years that I was in. Once the old-timers go who feel the need to put the WT in their will, I believe, there will be little in the way of contributions.

Question about 144,000-- heaven at death?

The idea that those who have been DFed are the only ones throughout all of the history of mankind who will not receive a resurrection and are considered wicked, yet those who would by their terms be considered unrighteous, i.e. ignorant of WT doctrine, get a pass. Hitler, some say, fits into this category. So ironic when Hitler makes the god of the Bible look like Little Bo Peep. 144,000 to help Jesus in the last days...to do WHAT is an even bigger question.

What Double Standards Exist With Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus into be a "good jehovah's witness" you must be able to live by double standards.
you have to know how to play both sides to the middle.
you have to speak and act one way with certain persons and another way with the others.. one example of how witnesses live by double standards:you cannot join the ymca because jws can't involve themselves with religious matters or else be shunned.

How about talking to my friend who one of the elders called a Satanist for believing in UFOs and who was instrumental in getting me out, but not talking to me because I decided to like the human race more than the god of the Bible? Exactly how many people would he have to talk out of the borg to be considered dangerous ?
