He renounced his citizenshipI may change my mind as I examine all the facts available, but right now, if the above is true, imo, it was a righteous shoot!

by MoneurMallard inrecently anwar al-awlaki was killed by the u.s. government.

His days left on this earth are few.
by LouBelle ini posted a while back about my uncle.
he was diagnosed with prostate cancer over a year ago.
it metasised - infected the bladder, ureathra, colon and finally got into the nervous system.

tears in my eyes, LouBelle. You're feelings are beautifully expressed in your post. I'm sure your words at his funeral will be beautifully expressed as well. My heartfelt condolences to you and your granny.

Do you tell people?
by MrFreeze inas an ex-jw do you tell people about your jw past?
how much detail do you go into when you tell non-jw's about the organization.
i usually only ever say anything if somebody asks about my religious affiliation or mentions jw's.

When the discussion turns in a direction that requires me to divulge my religious background, I usually say "my parents raised me as a Jehovah's Witness" then I quickly tell them I am no longer one, thank God.

I Just Knew This Was the Truth as Soon as I Heard It !
by bigmouth ini can't count the number of witnesses i've heard, or experiences i've read, who say this.. this is the basis on which they decide to join a high control religion ?.
do you make important decisions based on gut feeling or intuition or do you spend time researching a matter first ?
i've made some dumb decisions based on emotion and had to repent at my leisure.. actually, i was thinking about the mother with a missing child who just knows she's alive somewhere and is coming home.

If you have a choice, then using that declaration in your post's title is fair. You were a grown-up with experiences and a body of knowledge to assimilate a theology like the JW dogma into. You made a free choice whether it was based on a gut feeling or careful research. It was an adult choice.
For people like me that were born and raised in it, we had nothing to compare it to. To even think about examining other possibilities was verboten. We didn't have that luxury of saying we "just knew it was the truth".
When we reached baptism age, we should have been given a length of time to research other possibilities, ask tough questions without fear of reprisal, and given the dignity of making our own choices. If we decided against baptism, it should not have been held against us. There should be a different "rule" applied to us, imho.

told my parents to never ever tell me they love me again....
by oompa in...i told them in a very serious sitdown in their living room....said..."because if you cant show it then it does not count...that is not real love no matter who tells you it is....because it is how it makes me feel that determines if it is love....not if you just say it...and me and my sons do not feel that love at all now"....and i stayed calm and talked slowly and barely shed a tear as i held them back...and i had asked them to not say a word but just listen...dad said they would as long as it was not about religion as i knew he would.
this was two of the worst days of my life in a row..i told them the pain me and my boys feel from their shunning is worse than if they had died...that then i could grieve naturally and move on because that is normal....grief helps you cope...my grief is different because they choose to act like i am dead and normal grief does not seem to work on that.
i shared an epiphany with them i had about mens rules vs gods great idea of dna (but no i am not sure about a god anymore)it went kinda like this:.

oompa.....your OP was so painful to read. I just wanted to reach out and hold you close and try to take some of your pain into myself to ease you just a little. It doesn't work that way, though, does it?
When I realized that I would rather experience death at Armageddon than to treat my flesh and blood like lepers during the only lifetime I knew for certain I had (the here and now), I knew I was going to be okay. Bring it on! I'll die with honor! Forever on earth in a paradise full of JWs is not worth one second of pain caused to my loved ones.
I'm happy you have found a modicum of peace. Hope it just grows and grows.

TimothyT, you will find a place that fits you like a glove. While you're on your mission, you may open a few hearts and minds along the way among some of the more unenlightened pastors. Your love of Christ, your kind heart and soul, and your openness to be who you are has got to ring a bell of truth that some are bound to respond to.
There is a scripture in the Gospels somewhere that talks about the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of the light. I might be reading it through my own pov, but that scripture tells me than things change with the times. This includes attitudes and povs. There is a place of genuine Christ-like love out there somewhere for you.

The way I see it Jesus must have had a wife at some point
by sabastious inthe jesus figure in the bible, accross almost all christian denominations, is one of redemption for humankind.
the way that jesus accomplishes that redemption, however, differs between them.
according to the gospels god, or god's son, lived a man's life and died as a man in redemption of mankind.

The Supreme Law of the Land
by Farkel infolks, i almost feel silly creating this thread, but i think i must do it based upon comments by folks who think the various governments in the usa can make any legally enforceable laws they want.. they cannot!.
in the usa we have a republic.
we do not have a democracy.
-

Amen, Brother Farkel! But just like hundreds of so-called Christian religions take the same book, the Bible, and interpret it according to what they think it says, the Constitution is played with by lawyers, activist judges, AND policymakers. THE PEOPLE have to stay vigilant.

Are you sick of conspiracy nuts?.....9/11
by Witness 007 inyes apparently the staff at the twin towers on 9/11 didn't notice the explosives strapped to all the beams on each floor......of course a plane fully loaded with jet fuel going so fast it nearly flew through the building {blew out the otherside} would not be enough to cause a collapse.
the building were glowing red!
people jumped due to the heat and smoke.

LOL! Man, Shelby, I was thinking the same thing after reading PS's posts and Leolaia reply, but I didn't have the courage to say it to Leolaia. She does have a reputation, you know. She's always so darn thorough that it takes guts to say....uh, Leolaia, you might have something wrong. LOL!
