I remember that some of the elders in my congregation used to consider ankle chains a symbol of prostitution. I kid you not! But my wife and daughter would always wear them on holiday!!!!!!

I regard "the truth" as some as a trademark. Something like referring to a Big Mac!

by New light for you ini havn't posted in quite a while.. i thought we could move on.. .but my 8 year old is the most incredbly hurt brokenhearted girl by having her life-long friend ripped away by us leaving the organization.
i tried to leave quietly, we're not dfed or anything... but her mother, my former best friend will not let the girls talk.. write.. contact ... period.
my daughter is still crying all the time.

My son was about 12 when I stopped going to the meetings and continued to go with his mother until he was 17, earlier this year.
Every weekend he would go out with his witness cousin and other friends. As soon as he stopped going to the meetings, they haven't been round to see him once!
I am afraid that's the way it goes with this narrow minded religion. -

Who was the biggest Jehovah's Witness rebel?
by slimboyfat inwho was raised a jw and went on to lead life in stark contrast to their upbringing?.
i have often thought the award should go to dwight eisenhower.
from a religion that railed against politics and warfare he first invaded western europe and then went on to become president of the united states.

Is it possible for a child to be exposed to JWism and not be damaged by it?
by Mickey mouse inwhat do you think?
were you raised as a jw and feel you suffered no ill effects?
or do you feel it had a negative impact on your life?.

The question is; and not be damaged by it?
A lot of us here grew up as JWs and have even raised kids as JWs. Different people have different circumstances but overall I don't feel damaged by it.
And, my kids? Yes, they grew up without Xmas and birthdays but they all seem fine, even though all of them have left the 'truth'. I have lots of great memories of my childhood and my kids childhood many of them to do with being a JW; volunteering at assemblies, working on KH projects, etc.
When my youngest son decided to stop accompanying his mother to the meeting I had a chat with him and asked not to be bitter about growing up a JW and not to become anti-Witness as such. We were all mislead by the Society but many of us have lots of positives too.
To be balanced though, I have to admit I know lots of people who were damaged by being Witnesses, many of them kids who grew up in domineering, oppressive homes.

If your idea of a good breakfast is ...
by compound complex in'if your idea of a good breakfast is moose meat pie and spaghetti, then rice chex is not for you.'.
i remember reading those almost exact words on the back of a rice chex box when i was a kid.. i can eat moose meat pie and spaghetti any hour of the day.
why, only ten minutes ago i polished off a heaping, steaming bowl of mostaccioli, lolling luxuriantly in extra virgin olive oil and grated parmesan cheese, a side of bacon-flavored, blanched mustard greens and, finally ... two slices of kalamata ciabatta bread.

- Add one small finely chopped onion (or better still a few shallots) and fry for about 5 mins
- Add one finely chopped tomato and 1/4 of a teaspoon of turmeric and 1/4 of a teaspoon of red chilli powder
- Cook for a further few minutes
- Add 3 well beaten eggs and continually stir until they are nicely scrambled
- Serve on hot toast

First "Big Meeting" for our hall was tonight
by Iwonder17 inso we hadour first big meeting tonigh ( bookstudy, ministry school and service meeting ) here are my observations:.
1) even though it is the same amount of time, it seemed verrrrry long.
2) it seemed like a circus.....too many parts that did not relate to the others....seemed like a crossword puzzel with 6 different languages.

Yes, it seems that the society has no time for little ones and children.
I must admit that I haven't been to church much since I left the witnesses but like passwordprotected's church the one I did go to made quality time for the kids. They were involved in the proceedings and later left the main congregation to have their own 'Sunday School', whilst the adult congregation continued in more formal worship.
I often think the whole Bethel service, district overseer, circuit overseer arrangement, where these are in the main lead by childless couples, have made the society totally child unfriendly.

Spiritual junk food!
I think a lot of us one time die-hards were the sort that really tried to bring the meetings to life and tried to be innovative and creative. But eventually you have to give up on the change from within approach - this organisation is doomed.

Guess what? New meeting sucks just as much as the old one did.
by JimmyPage inone lady even made the comment: "the person who studied with me said my little boy would never go to school.
now i've got grand kids!
" this got a big laugh.
