by DeusMauzzim inthe situation: a friend of mine was df'ed recently.
i live with my mom, who is still active.. my mom told me that this friend couldn't come around anymore now.. i said that i had already figured that out, because she would be dfed if she kept contact with him, so she could do nothing else but follow the rules of the borg.. she responded that this was not so, that this was her personal choice ('out of love') :s. just to be sure.. we all know this is crap, right?

Ask your mom to give examples of 'personal decisions' on her part that have lead to a course of action other than what the elders were dictating.
If she can point to any, than maybe she's right, but still an uptight religious bigot, if she can't then you know it's because she's a WTS drone.
Causal issues aside, you still have to determine where YOU stand, what your stand permits or requires in the way of contact with/support for your friend, what cost that is likely to entail, and if you are willing to pay the price of your moral integrity.
It matters little why your Mom takes the stand she does, what matters is doing the right thing by your friend without unnecessarily direspecting your mom's home.
Just look inside, you'll know what to do.

J-dubs all about appearances
by Trippin2962 ini've read a number of post here that make the point that as a j-dub a lot of decisions are based on appearances and not real christian love.
if no one really knows about it the elders will sometimes only privately reprove such a person.. this is so wrong!
especially in the case where a woman (girl) gets pregnant.

I have a confession, it is good for the soul after all.
I only just now viewed the video link supplied by Whereami.
It really DOES present some points of interest regarding the debate over global climate change and the tactics used to promote the theory of a manmade cause of such change.
Keeping in mind the analogy drawn by Whereami between methods of the political activists within the modern environmental movemant and the WTS I was struck by several points. The most interesting to me was the similarity between the Climate models and the NWT, defended by one side because their beliefs are based upon them, excoriated as innacurate and biased by the other side.
So, thanks Whereami for linking this, it gave me quite a bit to think about, and I did manage to find a torrent file for it, so I'll be showing around.

I wondered whether I should don my asbestos undies when I wrote that. I tried not to, but it just bugged me so I HAD to go back and put my oar in.
I try to be reasonable and at least recognize that other people have differing points of view.
Evolution vs creationism, I wasn't there, neither were the evolutionists.
Is there a God? Only only way to know for sure, but I can wait.
And to return to our topic, Global Warming...
It is interesting how believers cannot permit themselves to see non-believers as merely differing in opion, but as actually evil.
There is even a works program, Kyoto; which proponents all agree will only forestall environmental armageddon by a small degree and a short time, but involves huge transfers of power and mandates considerable control over how people live.
Besides the alarmism, I see many other very WTS-like tactics in use, guilt and shame come to mind.
They also frame the debate in such a way that they win as soon as you accept their terminology.
Saying that if you drive a Hummer, you are 'destroying the planet' is very much akin to saying that one 'does not believe in the bible' because they do not accept the WTS interpretation.
Rationalization seems to be in evidence as well, if there are hurricanes, it's global warming; if there are none, it's global warming.
Temperature goes up, it's global warming Temperature goes down, it's global warming.
Makes me feel as if I were in the Borg again.
Believe what you will about the issue, but take note of the tactics, anybody who has successfully escaped from the WTS would benefit themselves by recognizing zealotry in any form and resisting the heady satisfaction it can bring for fear of being swallowed whole by another mindset that may not be doubted or debated.
Why forsake honesty and truth for bondage?
Once you succumb to such tactics in the service of ANY cause, you have done just that.

No, I think Whereami has a valid point.
Whatever the 'truth' of climate change, it HAS become a political hot-button issue.
The science of it, that causal issues, the debate is not over, yet one those who question are routinely vilified with much stronger terms than the fairly harmless term 'tree hugger.'
Come on people, grow a sense of humor and get over it! My side is often called 'nazi,' 'fascist' and worse!
The 'politically correct' speech codes that silence in the name of professional and perpetual offendedness are far more fascist in nature and do nothing in the service of truth, they only stifle discussion.
Alarmism IS being used, dissension IS being stifled, and skeptics ARE being demonized, and the 'truth' of the matter IS very much in dispute.
I have even heard calls for the credentials of any scientist who fails to agree or at least shut up and pretend to agree with global warming to be stripped from them.
It does smack of disfellowshipping to me.
All in all, very WTS like.

Caught Wife Cheating

i've had suspicions all along that something like this might be happening... but only just not confirmed that she's been cheating on me... with another jw that she works with!
she could have been more discreet about it rather than leave all the text messages on her phone.

I'm awfully glad you plan to drop her like a hot rock because it generally only goes downhill from where you are unless you get the hell OFF the rollercoaster.
As has been mentioned, keep your wick dry or you lose your 'get out of living hell free' card!
Plus, who knows what you could catch!
I think you were absolutely right to put conditions on reconciliation, and your description of her remorse does not sound as if it were particularly compelling.

Did you like Pirates 3 : At Worlds End (Spoilers possible)

i liked the first one, a ton.
i thought the second one was too long and boring, with all sorts of new information that was so off the plot of the original, that you felt like it sort of ruined the original.

Nice thoughts, but consider this:
I did stay after, it did not really answer anything, it could have been just his 'one day' for all they explained. I have read that a deleted scene which will probably be on the DVD release will provide much clearer exposition on this point.
I know they would need another, but there is the rather odd matter of the heart in the box. First, it was done by Jones to kill the pain, and was what made him a monster, then it was how one becomes the captain, and it was abandoning his duties that made him monstrous.
If hiding his heart away kept Jones from feeling, how is Will doing it?
Who would they stick with the captaincy if Elizabeth were faithful? Would Will 'stay on' until a replacement were found? Is there some order of succession?
Nah, much less than satisfying overall, but still a lot better than some others I've seen previewed.

Anyone have bad kitchen syndrome?
by restrangled ini was able to totally rework my kitchen about 5 years ago.
with limited funds we found premade cabinets very cheap.
we made them fit.

If I read you correctly and the laminate is on the counter surface, not on the frames, faces, and doors of your cabinetry, a belt sander will make short work of them, but it requires a fine touch not to go through and mess up what lies beneath.
There are also solvents that could loosen the laminate's deathgrip, but they would need to be completely evaporated before any other adhesive could be applied.
And as for 'bad kitchen syndrome'. mine is just godawful.

im 20 years old now, and miss my family and friends.
i left because i did alot of research about the jw religion, and i found nothing good and alot of truth.

I am sad to hear how your 'friend' treated you.
Keep hope, you never know; but in the meantime just work on being the best 'you' that you can and you WILL attract new friends who value you for THAT rather than being a member of some organization.
It's rough, but it takes time and you never know, you may be joinned on your journey by some of those you thought left behind.
