How Did You Find New Friends?
by daringhart13 ini'm painfully curious on this subject.. when you have devoted your entire life, your entire social circle, everything you know......to this religion....when you fade away, how did you make new friends?
how did you replace all those people you thought were your friends?.
on top of fading away....... i lost a 'relationship' with a 'sister' due to not wanting to continue as a jw.

First step I found is to make yourself available for friendship. As a JW you don't have to put much effort into being a friend as it is an automatic privilege and you tend to go around with mental keep away signs so people see you as aloof.
Very important. It took me longer than I expected to learn how to cultivate good friendships. It takes work, you have to genuinely care about people and get to know them. Don't force it. Attend various functions and initiate conversations or at least smile and people will initiate conversations with you.
And it really does depend on where you look. I was surprised at the morals of these folks, they are a LOT higher than we've been led to believe. We've even talked religion over sunday brunches, its very refreshing how open people can be.
Remember, the easiest way to make friends is to be a friend.

Arrested Development was one of the best shows that ever hit TV. Unfortunately most of America didn't get the humor.
I love All in the Family, always wondered what folks thought of it when it originally aired.

Would You "Technically" Remain A Jehovah's Witness If There Were No Sanctions Involved?
by minimus inmany of us have drifted.
we know it isn't the truth but we might not have officially resigned as jws.
many catholics are nominal catholics and they are not shunned or avoided because of their not going to church or confession.. would you remain a jw if the organization didn't punish you for your inactivity?.

*Names have been changed.
LOL...so much for boldness. If this person set such a good example, why not share her real name? Oh wait, then she might get too much praise from her congregation and start to think she's of the anointed...
Honestly, I never understood why they would change names in cases that are suppose to serve as good examples.

question about judicial committee meetings
by peaches ina couple of young people about 20years old,,,,were involved with each....they went too far with the being alone situation....not sure if they reported themselves or some one else did...reguardless.....i guess the elders asked both of them extremely embarrassing questions and very very personal ones...like what kind of underwear she wore,,,,,did she have an orgasm.....etc etc..... i do not understand why this is done?????
they went too far,,,acknowledged it,,,,met with the elders...why the deep personal questions??
they already had all the information they needed...... i should know these things,,,being in the borg for 30 years...but i don't,,,i really do not understand why????

Once she left the room so that we could pray for Divine Revelation as to her heart condition
Open Mind, so do the elders expect an immediate response? How do you know what the answer is? Do you pray before the confessors give you the details or after?

My Son's JW Mom Sends Him Condescending "Guilt Inspiring" E-Mail
by flipper infirst of all- a little history.
my ex-wife a fanatic jw seems to be in a pissing match ( not of my choosing ) with me over trying to get my son back into the jw cult.
he's 25, been out of the witnesses since 17 and he is very happy with his life .he has a great girlfriend, he enjoys gardening growing his own vegetables and he is a performing singer/guitarist now writing songs and performing in front of hundreds of people .

I've gotten emails like that...if he's happy, then he should simply reply that he appreciates her concern and that he's happy with his life.
Just want to share something...I was invited to be one of several speakers at an event for several hundred women regarding how to succeed in the workplace. Well the organizers, sent me a video recap of the event which included a snippt of presentation. I forwarded it to a list of folks about the lastest happenings in my life which included a few "cool JWs". Well, the "cool JWs" all responded that Satan had me using my gifts to help people get further in the world instead of saving lives. That I was now officially a tool of Satan and asked how many bible studies am I conducting
Needless to say, they are no longer "cool JWs" but they are still on my list. My point is this, in the eyes of a JW, no matter what your son does its all for Satan or for nothing if he is not an active JW. Your son could fly to Haiti, personally rebuild 15 homes and school and your ex-wife would still say that it doesn't mean anything because he did not save their lives by offering them a bible study.
The best way to shut-up a JW is to be happy and successful outside of the organization and to not engage in their mindgames but be interested in what interests them without getting into religion.

If you are living with a partner, is it a marriage?
by Quillsky inthe definitions of partnerships are shifting.
indeed, they are different around the world.. the law doesn't always protect good partnerships that aren't on paper, and sometimes the law protects truly bad partnerships that are on paper.
the bible or church doesn't really have a definition of what a lawful "marriage" is.. i propose this..... if you set up home with a partner, you are "wed".

No, its not a marriage. But as I learn more about life, I'm open to the possibility living together before getting married.
