  I’m wondering, just what it would take for those earnestly opposed to war to agree that Iraq under its present regime constitutes an unacceptable threat that must be dealt with expediently?

  I say this assuming that everyone is aware that the Director of Central Intelligence, George J. Tenet, has stated openly that the Iraqi regime has an active terrorist training camp not far from Baghdad that is known to be frequented by Bin Laden disciples. Bin Laden disciples have used the Bowing 727 jet fuselage parked in the middle of this camp to practice how to hijack airplanes.

  I have a hard time understanding why that one reason alone is not enough to take action.

  I’ve always had problems with the literal interpretation of Genesis. I have no training in anthropology or biology whatsoever, however as someone who has a highly technical background I found it very hard to accept this writing as anything other then an allegorical account written for the simple sheepherders of the day.
  I also had some problems with all the scuttlebutt attributed to those pesky demons. I often silently questioned the intelligence / gullibility of those that believed such things.

  These days I question my own intelligence / gullibility in ever getting involved with this religion in the first place.

  Thanks Minimus, how nice to open an old wound.

  You bet it disturbs me knowing I did this to them! But what is done is done and I have to move beyond this. My course of action now is to not allow my younger son to attend programming sessions anymore, and with my older boy, well they really got him already, so I just plant seeds of doubt when I can and give him lots of opportunity to slack off his JW activities when he wants to, and many times he does. It’s really all I can do at this stage.

  The only thing that keeps me sane, or relativity sane, is that each day I do a little something to carry on the fight against the dark tower and win my family back from this cult.

  Very few days go by that I don’t ponder what would things be like if I didn’t ask to study the Bible. Yes I initiated it! Christ THAT WAS THE WORST MISTAKE I EVER MADE IN MY LIFE, WHAT THE FU*K WAS I THINKING!

  Nobody can begin to know the level of guilt a parent feels knowing full well that it is because of them that their own child is now part of this deadly destructive cult. I would never wish such a thing upon anyone.

  Does God define "right and wrong" or is there an intrinsic 'good' ?

  i don't personally believe in a 'god' but i wonder for those who do .... is there an intrinsic "right and wrong" or moral code that would exist whether or not there was a god?.

  to put it another way, is what we believe is "right or wrong" based on whatever god decides is right or wrong (ie.

  he set's the standard) or is it an intrinisc thing that he also must adhere to in order to be thought of as 'good'.. if god has to adhere and go along with some intrinsic value system then does this effect any claims to be omnipotent and always good?

  What is good or bad is I believe based on our personal belief system which is probably heavily based on the accepted norms laid down and learnt from society. It doesn't make them intrinsically good or bad though and neither does making up stories of a God supporting them.

  i have a friend who is a jw, and i don't think she is right at all.

  I got out because the Elders told me I had to make a choice between my new job working for a government agency (NASA) with good pay and benefits, paying off the enormous debt I was in, or “do the right thing” and return to my TV repair / janitor / security guard jobs and live like a pauper.

  I chose to provide for my family, pay my debts off, and have a meaningful and challenging career. In a nice way I more or less told the Elders to shove it. That was the major break for me. And then some years later I put the word watchtower in a search engine and that was all she wrote.

  It must be kind of hard to be a JW for any stretch of time and realizing that now it’s ok to be transfused with cleansed cows blood, and that “generation” doesn’t mean what it once did, or that “1975” is now a year of no particular significance.

  Even the good old reliable “kings of the north and south” mean virtually nothing since their identity keeps changing. Well at least they can take some measure of comfort knowing that the wicked men of Sodom will, won’t, will, won’t, will, won’t be resurrected to share paradise.
