Add a very sad note to #6: ...and when cases of pedophilia arise, the WT has the money to silence the victims.

Why I like being a Jehovah's Witness
by TooBad TooSad inthere are so many reasons why i like being a jehovahs's witness.. 1. we get to count time when we share our faith with nonbelievers or our young children.. 2. we don't have to go to college to get a good job as a janitor or a window washer.. 3. we get to celebrate the birth of a child but not the anniversary of the birth.. 4. we don't pass a collection plate at our meetings and we get to put in our wills that when.
we die that our house, cd's, jewelery, life insurance, and cash can go the the watchtower society.
so that our family doesn't have to worry about those things.. 5. we don't have to be with our families during the holidays to enjoy each other company and eat the.

i'm new to the forums and just had to say hi, and thank you to all of you who've shared your stories which have let me know finally and for sure that i'm not crazy and nowhere near as abnormal as i've been feeling...well, forever, really, but more so over these last few years!!!
i can't tell you what a good feeling that is, but i suspect you already know.

Helo, Aurora:
Welcome to the forum. On the matter of love, you are right. It also makes me think on friendship. Although still in, I realize that there cannot be real friends where your interaction with them is absolutely dependent on loyalty to the WT.

Why the Watchtowers "War" argument is totally bogus
by drew sagan infrom my own personal experience the watchtowers position on war always appeared to be one of the most difficult issues to navigate.
a number of times when i was first leaving the wts i spoke with jws who all used this argument to show me how "wrong" i was about the "truth".
while i knew the watchtowers arguments where wrong, i had a very difficult time figuring out exactly why it was wrong.

Great thoughts. I enjoyed them.
Their arguments are generic and show a very low level of reasoning.
The same could be said of many other arguments used by the Society. Sometimes I am amazed of the "low level", as you put it, of their points. Many of them are purely infantile, and no one seems to care. For instance, one that has always intrigued me is the explanation given for the disappearance of the dinosaurs. The issue is a minor one, but the reasoning seems a joke, namely, that Jehovah created an excess of vegetaion and then created the dinosaurs so they could eat it and, in the interim, left humanity wondering for thousands of years what really happened to them. Again, the issue may not be that relevant, but the low level of reasoning blows my mind. How can people with such mentality, with such poor intellectual capacity call themselves "God's only channel of communication"?

Have you ever intentionally said crazy things from the platform?
by B_Deserter inlike have you said stuff that is just outright insane like "each and every one of us should be ready and willing to die for the society" purely in the hopes that you'd turn someone off?
i imagine for most of us trying to fade that would be the most difficult thing to do, but some people are really good at shutting down and just going with a flow, too.. .
i ask because it's the only possible explanation i can come up with for some of the really bat-shit insane stuff i've heard come from the podium.

Well, during the consideration of the September, 2007 KM, about not doing personal research, I raised my hand and commented that to form an independent study group was being discarded by the Society, but that individual research is always to be praised, because there is no other way of finding the truth about any matter.

Do you sometimes feel really disconected from people?
by Aphrodite ini thought i had been going really well in my life until my mothers recent attempt at shunning me.
now im feeling like i don't want to connect with anyone.
i'm kind of disconnecting myself from my friends even, withdrawing.

Therapy could be very helpful.
On the issue of disconnecting, I am going through a different type: I have started to disconnect from my witness friends, frustrated by the fact that it is virtually impossible to have an open and intelligent discussion with them. Whenever a fishy issue comes up, like the child abuse or the UN issues, or for that matter, the failed prophecies, all I hear is non-sense, a mere effort to justify that which cannot be honestly justified. I am tired of the JW's intellectual dishonesty.
I hope you find the help you need. Don't be ashamed of needing it or getting it. It is not your fault. You, as many of us, are a victim of the actions and methods of this cult.

I do not think they are in financial difficulty but I believe they are preparing for something. Will it take another member of the Governing Body to leave (like Franz) for us to know what is going on?

Good JW Growth for 2007
by voltaire indear all,.
i don't see that anyone has commented on the 2007 report.
i must say i was surprised with the impressive growth, not only worldwide, but in the developing countries which have seen some decrease in the last few years.

The growth may be real, but I would not be surprised if they are applying theocratic warfare here.

The WT is correct. Here is a very good argument they left out.
Since Jehovah did not find it appropriate to equip animals with the ability of communicating their feelings through words, there are instances in which a Christian who owns a pet might find himself in a dilemma. Fernando, a young Christian from South America considered the issue by asking himself a very important question: "As a Christian, would I be able to accompany a dog to his psychiatrist and, in the process, expose myself to the possible damage of having to listen to unchristian advice on worldly matters such as premarital sex between dogs or things of that nature?" After serious consideration of the issue, Fernando decided that he could not, in good conscience, adopt a pet. Instead of investing time and money on a pet, he decided to spend his time in the field service in the morning and work part time selling homemade ice cream in the afternoon. In his community, he is known as the Watchtower dude, since nine out of ten people who buy ice cream from him walk away carrying a copy the Watchtower. No doubt, Jehovah's blessing is evident.

This is a very sad story. But, beyond the sadness, it must make us reflect on the awful nature of Islam as a religion. Now, more than ever, I identify with the critique against Islam made by disident or infidel Ayaan Hirsi Ali (look up her interviews on Google videos).

Just finished C of C last night
by dogisgod init took me a while to get thru this book and some of the print was really unclear to make out.
what struck me was the absolute mean spiritedness of the borg toward these brothers who gave their whole lives to the borg.
it also reinforces my experience that once they "make a decision" they will not be disuaded by biblical facts.

But I thought it was wonderful how these couples stuck close together, not letting the religion divide them.
I also celebrate that.
