A bit of irony
by EmptyInside inhi all, the first time i posted on here i was really depressed about being single in my late thirties.
well, it's kind of ironic that i don't care about that as much anymore.
and, especially since i'm dealing with more important personal issues, which is examining the faith i was raised in, jw's of course.

Just have a "family study" with this "brother". Only make sure you're studying Crisis of Conscience or any other non-brainwashing material. Maybe you can both be free.

Kingdom Halls, Assemblies, District Conventions - NO POWER POINT
by Nephilim ini'm a good public speaker - when i have my power point.
this is because i am a very visual person.
when i had my notes everything seemed to get blurry.. it bothers me that there is this unwritten law that you are not allowed to give visual presentations in the kingdom hall... even assemblies equipped with multiple projectors (to view baptism) do not use power point or any type of visual stimulus.. hell even when they have 10,000 plus people they are still working a full day with just a man on stage talking.

When I was a kid I remember certain elders would occasionally use "visual aids". Before the meeting you'd see a tin can or something up on the podium. We would actually get a bit excited and look forward to seeing what he was going to say about his trinket.
Pretty sad that looking at a guy holding up a rock while jabbering on about the "governing body" was a good day.

NWT changes translation to not pray to Jesus
by sacolton injohn 14:14new international version (1984).
the kingdom interlinear translation uses the westcott-hort text, and that's how it reads in the kit.
the kit's interlinear reads as follows: "if ever anything you should ask me in the name of me this i shall do.

Very deceptive translation alright. Thanks for pointing it out. Might be a good one to share with relatives who have the KIT.

"Do not become unevenly yoked"--weird comment at meeting
by sd-7 ini heard a really bizarre comment at one of the recent meetings.
someone, in quoting this scripture, of course went with the usual doctrine of not marrying/dating someone who is not a jw.
but one woman took it even further, by saying that this applied even to people inside the congregation who 'weren't spiritual enough' or didn't have some magnificent spiritual goals in life.

As a teenager it was always put to me that I should only associate with people who were "spiritually stronger than myself". And that this was a rule that everyone should keep in mind.
It seemed to be the exact opposite of what Jesus was supposed to have been like.
But more importantly - to my logical mind this made absolutely no sense. If everyone applied this rule, then the ones "stronger" than me that I'm supposed to be sucking up to would not lower themselves to associate with me in order to not be corrupted by MY weakness. It would continue all the way from the bottom to the top - everyone rejecting everyone "below" them, and being rejected by everyone "above" them.
Seems like a recipe to associate (or marry) with nobody. Which was probably the real goal anyway. Friends and romance can be a major distraction from door-knocking time.

"The Faux Pas of Modern Atheist Unity"
by leavingwt ini enjoyed reading some of these criticisms.
the faux pas of modern atheist unity.
1. the plea for atheist unity.

While I DO think atheism is more rational than religion, I'm not comfortable with the "Brights" label. It sounds like a cult and reminds me of the "Bright and Shiny" cult in "Bubble Boy"

Was Jehovah God Ever Real To You?
by minimus inwe were supposed to "love" jehovah god.
we were taught how wonderful a god he is and how fortunate we were to be his people.
of course, you can't see jehovah god.
-

I WANTED him to be real, and really tried hard to envision him as being real when praying.
But, no, none of the fairy tale creatures (Jehovah, Jesus, Satan, Thor, generic god, etc...) has ever really been real to me.

Elders wife says being upset with pedophiles in the hall being the same as having to eat sauerkraut and wieners.
by life is to short inthis couple in our hall an elder and his wife gave us a anniversary gift.
it is a wall hanging that says "as for me and my household sister life is to short and hubby will worship jehovah forever.".
i felt i should send her a thank you card even though i hate the gift.

Soooo.... The moral of the story is: Having your child raped by a congregation member is just an "inconvenience"?
