JW's use Rose colored glasses to see each other.
by The Lone Ranger inhave you ever noticed how jws look at each other through rose coloured glasses.
no jw can do any wrong in the eyes of other jws.
even when its obvious that a jw has done wrong, they are always righteous to other jw"s, as long as a jw gos to meeting and does field service then he must be right with god and therefore must be right in the eyes of others jws.

My experience was just as ifcviking describes. Total backstabbing and gossip mongering. I was never in any of the little cliques because I wasn't willing to go that route.

Wow, I think I'm having flashbacks. Even after 20 years of no forced feeding of that stuff, I still feel panic at the thought of someone else having to do it.
Shake it off. Just shake it off.

How do you react.....
by restrangled inwhen you see someone needing help in a public place?
i usually avoid eye contact, but then feel guilty all day.
for instance when you pull up to a light and people are standing there with a sign or actually walk up to your window...i won't ever roll down a window.. today i pulled into the local grocery store parking lot, and there standing with a walker, was a middle aged latino man with his lower legs in some sort of braces.

I generally don't give money, but if I can help in other ways, I will.
I remember one time when I was living in Phoenix to attend a college for massage therapy, I was sitting in a Pizza Hut with a medium pepperoni pizza all to myself and this guy walked up to my booth and just sat down across from me. It scared the hell out of me until he said "I am really, really hungry. Can you spare a slice of pizza?". I realized he was a homeless person and all I would have had to do was start yelling or something to get rid of him, but I couldn't. I let him sit with me and eat over half the pizza all by himself. We talked and I felt really sorry for the guy. I didn't give him money, but I gave him the remaining 2 slices of pizza before I left. It freaks me out to live in a large city, that's why I live out in the boonies.

it might be interesting to have a thread where you discuss a hobby, something interesting that happened in the past, somewhere you've been, etc.. not deep, dark confessions - just interesting stuff.. .

My mother......sheesh!
by ex-nj-jw infor those who missed the drama, you can check it out here if you wish to www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/140100/1.ashx.
for those who know a little about my past and my mother - she had the nerve to call me today and leave an urgent message for me to call her.
i thought it was about my dad or that something bad had happened since her last comment to me was that i was dead to her, or something to that effect.

How many efforts to sway JWs have actually worked?
by sweetface2233 ini keep reading these threads about exposing the wts and sending letters to individual jws.
how many of these efforts have actually worked?
i've read books written by xjws and watched videos produced by them, but only after becoming one.

I don't spend any time trying to talk someone out of a belief they hold. If my sister who is still in the org. asks me about why I left, we talk. It ends up with us both saying that we respect the others' right to their opinion. It never changes her position, nor mine.

Quit your job and go sell ice cream
by Hiddenwindow indid anyone see the information on a recent watchtower study article (w-07 0/01, p. 30, 16) in which a witness who quitted his job and started selling ice cream on the streets in order to have more time to preach, is presented as a good example?
i found it extremely offensive and asked myself: are they really serious or is this joke?
but the worst part is that no one else in the hall seemed to find it offensive, with the exception of a ministerial servant who privately told me it was an act of disrespect on the part of the society.

There were 4 or 5 elders in my congregation that were millionaires or at least very close to being. I used to laugh when they would get up there and tell us that it's not about the money. They could go out in service all day long and never worry about paying the bills. I guess Jehovah was providing for them? Whatever.

The transformation from evil JW to freedom-fighter XJW- Instantaneous?
by nvrgnbk inthe degree of hatred being expressed by some here towards individuals in the jw cult is difficult for me to understand.. why?.
because most of us were jehovah's witnesses at one time.. how did this transformation from "evil, disgusting, murderous, bloodthirsty" jehovah's witness to "enlightened, free, open-minded, compassionate" ex-jw take place?.
were we bad the last day we were witnesses but good the next?.

I guess I don't consider myself "good" just because I left the JW's. I actually don't think I'm all that good anyway. I also don't think all JW's are bad, just brainwashed into believing something that isn't true. That doesn't make them bad, just gullible. obviously some of them are evil, but they would be that regardless of their religious affiliation. jmo

My Mother actually made me leave half-way through the 10th grade because a "worldly" boy liked me and kept calling the house. I liked him too and she just freaked out.
She has since apologized, but it totally screwed any chance of me getting that scholarship I was working on.
I got my GED later, but I am still somewhat bitter about the whole episode.
She also took all of the poetry that I had written from the time I was 9 yrs old (30 notebooks full) and burned it because the elders told her it was inspired by demons. That, I will never get over.
