no matter what the society does to try to attempt to fix this generation debacle, there is no way they can ever get it in jwa minds that the end will come past 2014.. nobody even gets or understands the change.

generation will always mean to them up to 100 years!

You are probably right.

I've come across JWs who are years behind in any changes, in anything.
Never mind anything to do with the "generation" teaching.

They try to juggle the "generation" because they thought "the end" would have been here long ago.
How we used to watch the numbers of the "anointed" falling and think "the end" is not far away now.
Now they are thrown into turmoil because numbers are rising.

The rank and file just tuck away any change and just think to themselves "the end will be here soon".
No matter how many years they have been saying it.

The "generation" change makes it so that the "the end" can be any future time.
Yet you get them going round "there's only three years left of this system"
Or you can bet after this years conventions they will be saying , as they have done every year.
"It will be here by the end of the year."
Then another year will pass and so on.

For the WT its one of the ways they hang on to members.
The carrot dangling in front of them.

I recall speaking a guy in church who had been seriously ill for a long while.
He eventually was diagnosed with what was wrong and had an operation.
He recovered and is now quite well.

I asked him if he prayed for healing.
he said he had.
I asked if it had worked

He said "Yes, God sent the right Doctor."

Placed 6 magazines this morning

Now when you have met other ex-JWs, you realise nearly everyone was doing it.

Help! Today's (5/23) WT study

anybody who went, was there any supposedly "nooo" light regarding trouble in the congos during the last days?

got a call from a "sis" on the way to the meeting telling me about this interesting "nooo" light.

not sure exactly what she was saying, something like "satan (i know i know) is actually bringing people into the congregations to disrupt them.

Even the Apostle Paul warned them in Acts 20 that people would come in and distrupt them.

29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.
30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them

And what happened you ended up with JWs.

Field Service Question

i know that the wts say`s that the jw`s are ever on the increase, more people, more studies etc.

yet where i live, (a residential suburb of quite a large city), i rarely see the jehovah`s witnesses going from door to door.

i think that they`ve knocked on my door once, and i got a memorial invite pushed through the letter box a few weeks ago.

I asked six people atwork, about this if they had been called on by JWs.
We all lived in an area where you would expect to see JWs regularly.
One person said his wife had said they had been in the past week.
Three said they can't recall the last time any JW called, they thought maybe about 6 months ago.
Two said that as far as they could recall they had never been called on by JWs.
Which reminded me that my parents and I lived in an apartment above a shop,
and we never got called on.

Another thing that has happened in the these past years is that blocks of apartments,
which at one time as a JW we could just walk in and call on people.
Now the main doors a locked and you have to use a tenants intercom to ask to be let in.
Which quite often they did not, even if you did get an answer, which very often you didn't.
Probably nearly a couple of dozen blocks of about 12 apartments became inaccessible.
In the end we very often gave them a miss.

Also by the time I was coming to the end of my years as a JW.
It was becoming very difficult to find people at home at all.
Some roads you would call weekdays, morning/afternoon/evening/Saturdays/Sundays.
Yet you would still find the same homes with no one in, and that was a majority of them.
Very often out of a road of 50 homes, you would be lucky to get 6 answering the door.

I too live in a fairly large town in the UK.
Probably about 4 congregations within 5 mile radius of where I live.
There is a congregation just a 5 minute walk up the road from me.

I have lived here for 10 years and have noticed how very seldom I see JWs on the "ministry" now.
They used to be around about every 2-3 months, now it seems about every 4-5 months.
In fact as I walked round the area most days I very rarely see them anywhere.
I've seen Mormons about more often than JWs these days.

The only reason can be that they don't have the numbers to cover territory as they used to.
I know the congregations I was associated with have dropped in number since I left.
A couple of them only about half of what they were.

They may say they are increasing, but where is the increase coming from?
I know of congregations that have no one baptised for a least a couple of years.
Others where those baptised where usually the children of JWs.
It seems to be very rare that an "outsider" has come in studied and been baptised.

Question about vasectomies

years ago i remember reading something published by the watchtower about men not being appointed as overseers if they had a vasectomy i have searched the cd library but cannot find the information does anyone remember where i might find that information?.

I had a vasectomy when I was a Min Servant back in 1988.

An Elder, a good friend, had had a vasectomy which he told us about

I then checked in Watchtower publications and checked with another Elder.

No problems, No objections I was told.

It was a sign of responsible child rearing we were told.

Did you notice the Bible in the first picture just said "Holy Bible" on it.

It should have had "New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures" on it.

Makes me think the picture was posed by non-JWs for the article.

They can't have a good argument with each other.

Then resentment builds up, until it explodes

New method of distributing magazines

don't know if someone already commented on this.

i did a search and did not find anything.

not that big of a deal, but the concept of having a personal order of the magazines is going away effective immediately.

This seems like another cost cutting excercise by the WT.

Having been "Magazine Servant" I know how many would be magazines would be left unclaimed at the end of the month.

But more importantly, in my view, it also FORCES the rank and file to attend the meeting to get their magazines.
Well didn't they have to before?
In the old system you had you name down on a list,for how many magazines you wanted ,
so if you didn't collect them, you could be chased up for them, then they would you hadn't been to the KH.
This new system were you just go and take what you want , as they are just stacked on the counter,
they wouldn't know if you had or not been to KH.
They also fantasied that their new 'voluntary donation' arrangement would increase contributions because publishers and the public would both contribute for placements. Instead, donations in general plunged.
I was "Literature Servant" when the brought the "voluntary donation" both I and the "Accounts Servant" both said that income would drop. But none of the Elders believed us. Till it started to happen.
