Of course, the WTS will give bribes when it is convenient. I remember clearly the case of the shipping of printing equipment to one country. Because the WTS would pay some heavy price if the equipment followed the normal order of things to be cleared at the port, they didn't think it was wrong to take the back door, 'facilitating' the clearing of their stuff. The Bethel people, along with some elders involved would later talk about "helping the preaching cause" by following the rules of the nation or some nonsense like that.

first of all, i am a "brother" in the congregation.
i'm not going to meetings, nor am i following your unwritten rules - but i am not df or da.. there are two articles in the june 15, 2003 watchtower that you should be ashamed of.. the first article is on pope alexander vi.. here, the article bashes the pope (whom by the way, i don't think deserves anything less).. however, the article talks about everything from him living in luxury, affairs and other bad stuff he's done.. and then the article brings out, (paraphrasing) "well, if this guy is so bad, what does it tell about the religion.".

a suggestion: if you have to meet with the elders, you could tell them you seem spiritually weak at this time, but that you're researching the publications and praying to Jehovah for help. This is most probably true in your case. You can buy out time to do what you have to do. But please, don't rush; take it very slow and easy; don't antagonise the organozation or witnesses, don't argue about the doctrines; for the sake of those you love who're still in.

How Much is Personal Responsibility vs WTS' Fault?

just how much of our personal circumstances can/do we take responsibility for, and how much do we blame the wts?
you may have grown up as a jw, coerced into leaving early to pioneer, not go to university, have no kids, even stay single for the pursuit of singleness in the kingdom work to pioneer or go to bethel.

Blaming the WTBTS for not having kids, not getting an education, etc. is ridiculous. Every court in America, even California, would throw it out.
Thank you Hamas, for that timely reminder of a quote. They shot themselves in the foot. It is eqaully ridiculous, teenytuck, that you find it ridiculous that anyone would blame the Watchtower Society for not having kids and not getting an education. Would you also blame the dead for adhering to the Blood Doctrine? Were there things you did while a Witness that you'd rather not have done? Were you ever a Witness? I find it appaling that you can self-righteously write what you did; did you see things differently now than when you were a Witness? Or did you not? It is effortlessly easy to forget, once you cross to the other side. There have been victims. And victims of victims. There are perpetrators too. I don't know about every court in America and California, but I know your courts are about law and not justice. And dragging the issue of reparations to the American courts of law sidesteps the issue.

Since the question is about rape, I would want to switch the situation: suppose the invaders (the drunken guys with guns) said the family would only live if the father had intercourse with the girl, his daughter? What would, according to the arguments you have posited be the lesser evil?
I'm not trying to incite anyone, and please forgive if this hurts anyone in any way, but I suppose the situation painted by Reborn does not exactly capture the essence of the discussion, the way I perceive it. I should be glad to delete this post if it's harmful in any way.

My family gave a great witness at my little sister's wedding...NOT!

(july 18,19,&20) i wanted to share with all of you what happened this weekend.. i was my little sister's wedding.
the one who ran away from home at age 16 and the judge gave me custody.
