if we were going somewhere and needed a witness to watch our place....even stay at our place, we had no reserves about being ripped off by them.
they were closer than some families members oftentimes and we even preferred being around them as opposed to "wordly" family members.

Did you know about disfellowshipping before? If so, did you know how they treat a DFed one?
a strong brotherhood would never shun you.
Is shunning scriptural? If so, is it possible to love someone yet have to shun them?

Some cultish types of religions want their followerers to think otherwise and try to convince them that they alone have a love that's not found elsewhere. That's the category the JWs fall into. And that's how their brotherhood comes into existance. "Us vs Them"...it keeps them bound together. But...it's not really a brotherhood of love, but of guilt and fear.
Spot on! Witnesses believe they alone are gods friends and they believe they are above all else on the planet. This causes a family, a brotherhood. It's a people that have all given their allegiance to the same body of men, they are in the same club so to speak. Everything is based on love and trust in their eyes.

I mainly was talking about really close witness friend and I realise I should have clarified.
I also can say as did Undercover that workmates are a good example that they can become close also.....like a dub. I realise from reading some of this that yes, there are many wordly people in my life that are closer than many of the witnesses.
This also much depends on how many "close" witness friends a person has had to answer this question since some may have NEVER been close to others in the Organisation. I had/have gobbs.

My question is..........did/does christendom have THE SAME TYPE of closeness amoung it's members? Is a congregation in christendom as close as a witness congregation is?
I was raised a witness and when I got out I attended some social events in the church I attended but not too many as I was there to find out what "truth" was and that was it for me for the most part and so I can't really answer this question, but I know that many here HAVE become close with members in other churches either before or after being a witness and so I thought I'd ask them.....so......fire away if you would please.

i am a baptized jw that faded some years back.
in those days i deeply believed in the org and became disillusioned by some things happening in the local congregation.
following some research on the net i decided to fade out of watchtower existence because i did not want to keep mixing with false religion (or so i thought at the time).
I recently got re-instated and I hate every meeting. I enjoy seeing and talking to old friends but that's it! I went back to have my daughter and grandkids in my life as I was falling apart without them in a big way.
How anyone can return to the vomit is beyond me , that is if they think there is some good to be had from the JW's. They destroy families, cause needless deaths, offer false hopes, and a host of other no good teachings. Why on earth would you go back after what you know? Unless it's for family I can't see any good reason to return.

Sorry your feeling down about your parents CC. I still have my mom but she's 83. I figured at her age I wouldn't try to take away her dub religion as she wouldn't have much time for a journey out.

According to witness dogma you mark a person who commits a sin not deserving of disfellowshipping but close to it. It's supposed to be a "personal" marking in which a talk is given and the individual publisher decides if they will "mark" the person that the talk relates to or not.

Gopher hit the nail on the head. The publishers know the speakers are not the ones writing the material.
Did you notice the names of the speakers are announced.......but their names are NOT on the program?
The society is all too often brought before the courts and media for their outlandish beliefs and so they hide the names of those responsible for writing the material. They also have divided up into various corporations so as to avoid lawsuits. In many cases they have passed the blame onto local elders not associated with the writing dept to take the heat. Heartless Chickenshits!
