A (recently) former bethelite told me that it has a lot to do with the fact that Armageddon hasn't come and now they've had to expand their infirmaries and provide more and more health care for the older ones who can no longer work. They've told the infirmary workers that this is "new territory" for them and that they had made no provisions for caring for elderly workers, as they didn't think this "system" would last so long. So, it makes sense to "lay them off" when they're between 45 and 60, before serious health concerns become expensive for the WTBTS. But "lay off" is a term that bothers me because, in the rest of the USA, someone who is laid off can file for unemployment benefits. How are these poor people supposed to live? This is coldness beyond belief.

Two "Current" Truths that contradict each other
by Honesty indoes anyone wish to compare and tell us how the watchtower society can maintain two conflicting doctrines at the same time?.

Zico, So do any of the current JWs have a problem with the fact that this January's new light contradicts last January's new light?
What I don't get is how they can keep believing that the WTBTS is God's mouthpiece. Sounds like their god is schizophrenic to me. He doesn't know what he's doing from one year to the next. What kind of god is that? Surely not the one who created the universe in an ORDERLY fashion. It seems the teachings of the WTBTS are becoming more chaotic and disjointed as time goes on. Am I wrong?

The NWT actually teaches about the Trinity?
by bite me indoes the nwt teach about the trinity and they do not even realize it because they are either not reading it, or reading around it?
this is an observation that i came across.
i'd love to hear what you think.

Remember why we give out shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day? Because St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the trinity: three separate leaves but it's still one shamrock. So the Holy Trinity is one but it is three persons in one godhead. So, to baptize in the "name" of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is grammatically correct in that the three are one unit. Kind of like a family.
BTW, I have to do some checking, but YHWH is the name of the Godhead in the OT. JWs assert that YHWH is the name of the Father only. There is no reason to come to that conclusion.

I'm a SAHM. I was already fat when he married me but I haven't gotten any fatter. Sounds like y'all are just down on marriage.
Not me. I love being married. I love my husband. Of course, he's my FOURTH husband and it took years of therapy over the whole being raised a JW crap before I could carry on a meaningful relationship with anything or anyone... See, if I can actually end up in a good marriage, there's hope for the rest of you.
Seriously, if you're a SAHM you have to agree to log at least as many work hours a day as your spouse does. Otherwise, it's not fair and resentment builds up. Also, DH is much more willing to help me out after he gets home from work when it is evidently clear how much I contribute while he's gone. I average a 12.5 hour work day.
We can afford to live on one income only because I work hard as a SAHM, cooking from scratch, no convenience foods or fast food, mending and sewing, learning to fix things rather than replace them. I do almost all of the home repair and maintenace~it's fun, I've discovered. But I find it very challenging and very satisfying. Many women do not enjoy being home and I don't feel they're horrible for working.
And I rarely have time to watch anything on TV because I'm so busy running my household and caring for my family.

Please remember to treat your JW friends and family with kindness and charity. Since I've left, others have approached me for help when they decided to leave themselves. They've told me that my willingness to understand that they were brainwashed and not to hold their shunning of me against them is why they reached out to me when they had their own crisis of faith. How you conduct yourself now could be a good "witness" to the JWs who know you and put you in a position to help them later. So far, you seem to be doing it beautifully. Good luck to you.

BigMouth, my mother is one of those. I fear that, when she dies, she'll refuse to go to heaven because she's so sure it doesn't exist. Even if St. Peter himself were standing there holding the gate open for her!

The "No Jehovah's Witnesses" sign taped to the storm door usually works. When I was a JW, one woman got an attack goose. She'd release it in the yard when we pulled in the drive. It kept us in our cars. Another woman put water on the stove and set it to boil then would throw it through the screen door at us. After the first time of doing that, all she had to do was open the door with the pot of steaming water in her hands and we'd hop back in the car.
I love it when they come to my door. I brew a pot of coffee when I see them on my street and then, when they come inside, sit down, and have coffee in one hand and cookies in the other, I invite them to pray the rosary with me. They leave hurriedly but not before I put some tracts in their bookbags from the Fellowship of Catholic Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses entitled "The End of False Prophecy is Here!" and "Worldwide Message to Jehovah's Witnesses."
Oh, and having Ray Franz' book on the coffee table helps.
I've always wanted to begin a conversation with them by saying, "Millions Then Living Are Now Dead!" just to see if they'd get it.

I too did not win the Mega Millions. And I spent $5 on lottery tickets!
I'm one of six children. My JW mother has divided us into two groups: the good kids, i.e., the three who are still JWs, and the bad kids, i.e., the three of us who left the JWs. If I had won the Mega Millions lottery, I would have divided it equally with the other "bad kids." I wouldn't want to offer any of it to the "good kids" because it might bother their Bible-trained consciences.
