It sounds pretty deranged but I can imagine it happening.
Im actually surprised that the J.W. woman would even touch the flag. They seem so convinced that it is evil.
Its a strange world.

NEW JW POLICY POSTED!!!
by amac ini don't know if anyone has posted on this already but there is a new press release at http://www.jw-media.org/releases/default.htm?content=bg_molestation.htm that defines the current jw policy and i believe it has taken a step in the right direction!.
although they have not literally changed it to require reporting to the authorities in all states, they have finally put into print the following: "additionally, the victim may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so.".
i am glad to see, straight from the wt, acknowledgement that the adults involved have every right to go to the police.

We can only hope it is sincere.

by Yadira Angelini inmy jw daughter came over monday to tell me all about her visit to bethel!.

Blue,
You are such a cutie!Yadira,
I know how you feel. My aunt is a full time missionary. She has givin up everything, even having children for the society.
My family found out exactly who her devotion was to when my grandmother passed away. My grandfather was having a really hard time and everyone knew he couldnt manage living alone. He asked my aunt if she would consider giving up the missonary work and live with him so he wouldnt be alone but she refused. I planned on moving him into our home and adding on but he died during surgery when he refused the blood transfusion. Of course, at his funeral, my aunt said she was actually planning on staying and helping him but I think that was more her guilt talking.
Missionaries also become very dependant on the society. The society provides them with adequate medical insurance and they give them shelter etc. Also, by having the missionaries devote all their time to the preaching work, they do not gain very much work experience so they find it virtually impossable to find employment if they ever decide to leave. They actually become very trapped by the lifestyle.
I admire you for being able to keep from screaming when she was telling you these things. Family is so important, I would continue to pray for her.
Take Care. -

I had one from a member here too.
It wasnt his fault, the darn thing gets into the address book and sends itself. I felt so awful though because it sent itself to many of my friends and family in my own address book. Smart little bugger. Im glad they all were understanding. The people that had firewalls and virus scans noticed it right away and didnt click on the attatchments. We have a virus scan from Mcafee. You can find them on the the web. This one continually updates itself on all the current viruses that it is aware of.
We paid about $24.99 and pay about $9.00 a year for the service.
Kind of makes you wonder if the anti-virus companies arent in fact the creators of these viruses?! I mean how can they be so up on this stuff?! Hmmmmm.....
I know, me and my conspiracy theories huh......
Hey really, ya' never know..... -

Why Are People Here So Disrespectful At Times?
by Eutapro ineu has noticed that a number of persons making up this forum are guilty of showing disrespect to jehovah's witnesses.
some refer to jws as 'hovahs and others talk about kingdumb hells, all the time professing to follow christ.. some may justify their rude behavior by saying that jws themselves can be rude.
even if the charge is true, and eu is not really convinced that it is, why cannot ex-jws rise above the fray?

Your topic title, "Why are people here so disrespectful at times".
Why is anybody disrectful at times? Everyone on this earth is an individual. Each person reacts differently to situations based on their own life experiences.
I have also learned that people react disrespectfully when they have been disrespected themselves.I personally do respect witnesses.
I do not however have respect for the watchtower society.Just wanted to point out though,
if you listen to witnesses speak of people outside of their faith, they basically condemn everyone to a cruel death in "armageddon". Not to mention the various terms they use openly to refer to outsiders, "Worldly" "Pagan" "Apostate" and the shunning and snubbing of friends, loved ones, even parents just because they do not agree with the society. This isnt very respectful in my opinion. -

HERE'S WHAT JW ELDERS DO TO LITTLE GIRLS
by crawdad2 inthey question her, in private, all alone with her.... then the questioning keeps breaking down the little girl, so she crys, and they watch, making her describe every detail of the sex act......while she crys..... they want more exact details of where here tounge was............. while she crys....... then they go to a room for 5 min and come back and tell her she doesn't have 2 witnesses, and that she should just keep quite about the matter.. and if she says anything about the matter at all, she will be punished........."then"... she has to go "home" and face "daddy" the "petophile"...... daddy is kind of mad.... do you get the picture yet????????????????????????????????????.
meanwhile daddy is asked to give a part on the assembly.. and little girl has learned to not tell-on daddy........ever again, or she might "die".

This is very scary.
Most elders are not therapists and should not be dealing with the emotional state of anyone who has been abused or otherwise.
I understand this post as being a very possible scenerio. Most people with common sense know that not every elder is terrible person. We are all aware though that the elders have to conform to the society and cannot defend an innocent person or advise them to get professional or legal assistance without the risk of being disfellowshipped themselves.Xena,
On abuse.
Guess you didnt go to my kingdom hall near Detroit Mi.
We all got big whoopins in the bathroom. Not to mention hair pullings, soap in the mouth and so on. My mom once broke the wooden spoon over my sisters rear end. I remember when I was about 14 my mother raised a metal spatula to me and I took it out of her hand. She never hit me again after that. She was a single mother dealing with heavy stress. At the time the W.T.S. had strict rules on scriptural freedom. My father disappeared and abandonment was so vague. She needed proof of adultery in order to to be scriptually free to remarry or she would have been disfellowshipped. Anyway, getting off track there but I believe many things like stress can contribute to abuse and it probably didnt help that it was pretty much socially acceptable with most members at our local congregations. We attended about 4 different halls since our family lived in nearby areas but didnt attend the same halls. We would often visit theirs. This was mostly in the 80's though but my J.W. cousin does currently slap her son around quite a bit and she is a very active witness. She makes no secret of slapping him in the face just for fidgiting in his chair at the dinner table. When I first saw it I was so shocked I talked to her sister about it. She told me that it bothered her too but she was afraid to say anything. She said she saw her drag him to the bathroom at the hall by his ear more than once and nobody said a thing.I agree that abuse does occur pretty much everywhere but not every religion or organization forbids their members from seeking outside help. It like, even if they suspect the abuse is continuing, they encourage the victim to just do nothing?!
This is just so wrong. -

For those of us who Didn't See DATELINE.....

Beautiful,
The first five minutes alone blew my mind. Very exposing. You really have to watch it with the volume turned up, I just couldnt believe it. I mentioned in chat how we live in a rural area and the people without cable only get the network that Dateline was on. Im sure many of the local witnesses saw it. Unless of course the kingdome hall issued warnings against viewing. That really ticks me off. "DO NOT WATCH THE APOSTATE DATELINE EPISODE, WE WILL HAVE A BUG IN YOUR TELEVISION THAT WILL LET US KNOW IF YOU DO, YOU WILL BE DISFELLOWSHIPPED" OK Im done being a smartass.
Seriously it talks about the molestation coverups, shunning and disfellowshipping process. It also talks about how members risk losing their family and friends if they dont conform to the policies, the blood issue etc. It shows a convicted sex offender now going door to door, as he has been welcomed back into the congregation. Very powerful stuff, especially to people who have been or are currently involved in the society.
