1914+100 Years

i have been reading things for a while.

in approximately 20 months it will be the year 2014. that year will be 1914+100 years.

i don't know how the wts is going to get around that if the "present system" is still in existence.

It's too late for the old ones because where are they going at 60+? They're in the age of retirement, entire families in the cult and friends, so are they willing to lose entire circle of association and walk? Few more will wake up with 2014 passing but no exodus will occur.

They can always point to those leaving as weak ones, use "lack of love" as another sign the end is near.

Same old regurgitation will continue to flow and as long as witnesses are going through motions and afraid of leaving because of losing everyone they know, there won't be any exodus in 2014.

I don't understand how you can continue to imply that maybe wts is true. It looks to me you have a guilt somewhere deep inside and feel that wts might honestly be true faith but you don't feel it (holy spirit) because you're doing obviously something that wts doesn't approve of and if you somehow did "repent" and returned you would be blessed to see the spirit at work. You create a circular reasoning in your mind where you seem to ignore facts as typical JW and yet there is something unsettling that you don't understand but keep pushing that unsettling feeling aside as if you don't want to investigate it.

Just as Black Sheep pointed out, wts either was selected in 1919 as they state or it wasn't. They use a formula which flip flops between 1918 and 1919 over the years to "prove" that they've been chosen in the above year. Examine the formula and date/events it's based on which should help you with establishing foundation of wts' authority. The formula is confusing in itself and probably why not many jws even think too deeply on it. I think it's stilIf you don't remember it it's

607BC+2520(7 time x 360 years) = 1914AD(oct)

Another point to consider is what evidence is there that the bible is even remotely true word of god as claimed? Does history and archeology support all of the bible and it's time line or not?

You don't need to go much further than investigating the first book of the bible to see that it's all bunch of nonsense.

In love with a JW...

apologies if this has been discussed before, or is in the wrong forum, but i could really do with some advice.

two years ago i met the love of my life; someone i regard as my soulmate.

he is an active jw and i am a practising church of england person.

Unless he researches wts' past and realizes that he's in a cult and needs to get out and adjust to real world, your best option is to move on with your life. It may be very difficult thing to do but DO NOT GET ATTACHED TO A CULT MEMBER.

If you marry him, you will be the black sheep in his family who may or may not treat you like family member until you actually start showing interest in their beliefs and get baptized. Basically you won't have a real family! When you have a serious relationship with someone you usually join both families together and that just won't happen by marrying a witness. Holidays will all be evil so you may end up fighting over those, if you have kids, he will want them to be JWs which puts them at risk of being restricted to what medical treatments they will get and higher education will not be in their cards.

If he does realize he is in a cult and leaves, he will be shunned by his entire family, your kids won't know their family on his side, or if they do, his family will try to influence your kids.

Their doctrines are always changing so you don't have an idea what radical changes can take place tomorrow and to what extend will your "future" husband follow them.

As you began to study with them, just keep in mind

they misquote others, so you be careful of agreeing with what their publication say
JWs don't know their real history as they depend on what they're told about their past in present publications which also whitewash their past
they will befriend you as long as you study and progress, the day you drop interest in studying with them they and all those friendly with you will also drop you as their association
they will try to avoid your real concerns or questions so make sure you have your concerns and questions fully answered to your satisfaction and don't go on until they answer your concerns/question

ps: This is general description of JWs but he and his family may be one of the very few who are different, but what are the chances of that. Read and learn about the group because you don't want to put yourself in an disadvantaged relationship that you will regret months after marriage.

wts will always have crazy shit, because that's what makes them "different." WTS has no future but GB already build themselves new better living quarters than Booklyn had so they can retire without worries. JWs are only as good as the last dollar they put in towards www - oh ya, and the last hour in service.

KH and Gold Scam part 2

at our hall..we were given a 0% loan for remodel as long as we paid it back in a very short period of time.

and even though the building has long been paid for by the congregation and yet our reserves were low, inorder to get that loan, we were to turn over hall ownership to the society.

since the congregation had to vote on it, and no one is going to raise thier hand against, it got passed.

They have this in KMs close to the end of the year as they guilt people into donating and how they can get tax receipts if done before Dec 31. In the KM, wts usually mention, cash, stocks, bonds, property, gold, and any other valuables. Someone must have caught on to gold and emphasised that point from KM but that was most likely just a local elder's emphasis on gold and not wts outline.

is jws really growing or only natural increases from kids.?

firstly yes we all know most jw bornins leave but a quarter give or take continue.

im going to argue that this is the only source of any increase.

those that leave are barely replaced if at all by new recruits in third world countries.

From observing the baptisms while I was still in, it appeared a lot of youth was getting dunked which suggests recruits were rare. I would assume that most baptisms within the developed nations come from born ins or kids of parents who were recruited while the kids were very young.

Developing countries and especially third world still have very large family structure which may also contribute greatly to more kids of JWs being baptized which again one can question the rate of recruitment in those countries.

There is no hard data that can be used to show what success they have in the "ministry" but the hours if field circus:baptisms show they're failing miserably! I doubt very much that a majority of baptisms in the developed lands come from recruitment, more like 2:1 for born in baptisms. If one takes into account that at least half of baptisms are born ins, the hours to sucker one in may take 10,000 hours if not more.hey

Their days of greater recruitment compared to born in baptisms are over IMO

If the WT dumped 1914 tommorow ...?

this is my first post here.

i've been a lurker for awhile but had no particular desire to join until the other day.. anyways, do you think that if wt decided to face the fact that 607-1914 is an indefensible pile of crap that has been artificially kept steaming for way too long, would it really kick off a mass exodus or anything?

in the short term the fds/gb might lose some authority, but they are hemorrhaging people anyways keeping it around (607 started me on the road to this place).. if wt stopped talking about 1914 for awhile then later killed it, blaming it on "further research" or something, and acknowledged some uncertainty in 607/587, i really doubt that very many of the r&f would think much about it.

Mass exodus, I don't think so, but a large number would wake up and began to research and leave. Maybe 20-30% would leave. There are a lot of mentally deficient witnesses that wouldn't care what shit rolled down from the tower - they would follow it no matter what. Then, there are the apologist who delude themselves to the point they will twist the truth to make their lie look good to mentally incapable JWs which will only feed their ego.

I also thought wts was pushing the 1914 off the wt publications until the last fall when they came out with Oct and Nov wt rag which used out of context sources and hid important data to support their bogus 607! This tells me that the people who write the shit know what their doing, including the GB. They're feeding JWs lies because I doubt the entire department and the 7 stooges in power are all as deluded as Rolf Furuli, which only means they are lying and they know it.

Honestly, IMO wts has peaked in recruitment numbers as percentages go and their growth is more internal and will depend on uneducated kids who will obey the leaders no matter what. Those who have any independent thinking will began to research and leave. The developing nations are starting to use internet more and more, the third world nations may have more ignorant but no money which is also not a good business model for wts with cash flowing out of developed into third world is a good way to starve themselves which may be why they're getting rid of missionaries. It appears the cult will only become more radical and focus on the internal members to be more and more obedient to the GB - we've seen GB-like worship articles in the last several years already.
