Oh yes, so many horrible articles that terrified the living daylights out of me as a child. I think most that stick in my head are of the nazis not finding literature which was hidden in curtains and the like, and having to remain hidden and silent. I always remember that playing on my mind, of how my sibling was a baby and how would we keep the baby quiet if we had to go into hiding?? Also the torture stuff from Rwanda etc.

Inappropriate - Sick - WT & Awake articles over the years.
by Essan ini remember as a kid reading an article - not sure if watchtower or awake - which terrified the life out of me!
i remember thinking at the time "ok, this may be true, but i'm just a kid, i shouldn't be reading this!".
some of the details remain imprinted on my mind decades later.

Do Elders and Bethelites really follow this site?
by jamesmahon injust a question really and whilst i would not put it past them i sort of feel it is too 'conspiracy theory' for me.
are elders and bethelites officially sanctioned to lurk (or engage) in this or other sites to try to weedle out apostates?
does anyone have any direct experience of it happening?.

I have no doubt there will be certain elders in congregations asked to scour the internet to see if they can find anything on 'weak' or inactive ones. I don't think they'd go looking for people who appear spiritual. I personally know of elders who are on Fb, which really in itself is not allowed and conventions always say to stay away. I've no doubt they are looking to catch people out.

Hi Quentin.....have you ever tried to quit before? Might be good to look at past experiences you've had with trying to quit and try something different this time. Cold turkey works for some but not all. My dad did it cold turkey about 30yrs ago, when he started studying. My mum did cold turkey, albeit for one relapse of one cigarette...lol. Have you tried the patches? Or lozenges? The smokeless cigarettes look interesting, but they still keep you in the motion of hand to mouth with something in it. Maybe you could try hypnotherapy? All the best

Did you ever have the Elders check out a prospective marriage mate 4U?
by Open mind inor, to your knowledge, did anyone ever make any inquiries of your local elders as to your "spiritual health" and suitability for courtship?.
how'd that work out for you?.
om.

Yes, my dad rang my ex's BOE and was told 'I wouldn't let my daughters marry him'. Sad to say, I ignored that advice and my dad to this day feels guilt that he didn't stop me marrying him. What can I say...I was young and naive, VERY naive and gullible. I instead trusted my ex, which turned out to be my downfall. Live and learn...

New Apostate here
by skitt ini did not know where to start, but figured the personal experience section was a good place to begin.
won't bore you with all the particulars today....but i was raised in "it" (wont call it the truth, cause it ain't) from about 1968. baptized in 1985, faded about 2001.....woke up from the insanity after reading ray franz forbidden book a few years ago(crisis).
only sorry i did not read it earlier....but there was that fear factor instilled in me.

What's the biggest lie/rumor that has ever been told about YOU?
by VampireDCLXV inmost of us here know what a hypocritical, backstabbing bunch of gossips many of the jw's tend to be.
far too often, a jw wont tell you to your face what's eating them, but they'll sure tell others.
when i started waking up (the second time around) this made me very paranoid.

I had the same as BorgHater, I was married and had my first baby within 10mths...so people assumed that's why we'd gotten married. Idiots! Guess they've never heard of honeymoon babies!
The next rumour was one my ex circulated after he left me, was that I was dating. He even managed to get some guys foto and send that around to people I knew. What the hell?! When I found out, the foto was of a male friend I'd had in highschool and hadn't seen in the flesh for 15yrs ! I still can't figure that one out, why he'd lie like that. I should've had him for slander at the time, given I was still a JW. For the record, I still haven't seen that dude since highschool!

Makes me angry how they keep referring it back to the faithful and discreet slave. In other words, do as we say or else!

Male female ratio's at assemblies
by Jeremy430 ini've heard it said that the male female ratio between jehovah's witness's is 7 female to 1 male.
when you go to the assemblies or the hall, nothing could be further from the truth.
were do people come up with those numbers anyway?

I heard it was 3:1. Could be more, always seem to be plenty of women versus men at assemblies here.
