Personally, I think the collective foot-off-the-gas that has happened since "the generation that will not pass away" doctrine passed away has hit the society financially too. Back in 1995 my congo of about 120 publishers contributed about £350 per month to the world wide work. recently, when saying goodbye to my grandmother, who i only see a few times a year, she started tearing and said something that made me very sad.
she said she had to tell me that the door to jehovah's kingdom is closing at any moment now, and that if i didn't do anything now, it would be to late.
to her, she is facing an eternity without her grandchildren and it makes her very sad.

I met him a couple of times, not to talk deeply to, but he didnt give off a gay or straight vibe. He had the air of not being quite 'there'. Freddy always struck me as an asexual type. Head so full of the kingdom he was no earthly good. If he was in the middle ages he'd have been living in a cave away from people - desperately trying to see visions.
This type of weird personality is fine as long as they're never in a position of power and influence. The society's doctrine today is a laughing stock because of Freddy. The "prophetic thrill" or shiver of anticipation many felt in the 60s & 70s due to the Daniel / Revelation interpretations has long turned into an embarassement.
They need to get rid of 1914 and go mainstream, if not they'll end up as a wierd little fundamentalist 3rd world religion.

Yep, previously (on friends) Regular Pioneers were approved by the service committee and appointed by Bethel. Bethel would send a new Reg Pio an appointment letter. This has been simplified to regular pioneering being more like auxilary pioneering, only the approval of the BoE is now required.
This breaks the link between Bethel and regular pioneers.
i have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

Start late finish early, take a coffee break.
Go one step ahead of the society and start 'internet witnessing'
