i don’t know a lot about james penton but i think he deserves a better thread than the one currently on offer.
james penton, who died recently, grew up in a jw family in canada and served as an elder.
unusually for a jw, he studied liberal arts at university and became a history professor.
For the last few years Penton participated in the online Bible study group with Eric Wilson. There are also some videos by him on Wilson's channel (Beroean Pickets).
This is an interesting interview from the early 80s. This was done 2 months after Ray Franz was kicked out from the org. Too bad Ray himself wasn't interviewed here as well - but his landlord, former elder Peter Gregerson was.

one theory why tony was booted out was because he was a stickler for not changing the shunning doctrine.
he actually said the words we will never ever change it.. they are slowly deleting all of tony’s videos and now losing court cases and losing government hand outs in places like norway.. it’s looking very likely they will release new light on shunning policy after losing this latest one in norway.. .
what are the odds they coincidentally get new light from jehovah and lighten up their shunning policy ?.

we still have quite a few elderly here that came in as young families in the late 1960's-early 70's because soon, yes very soon they would enter the new system and never grow old.
it's now one year away from 50 years since 1975. just in the last couple years i've seen them come down with alzheimer's, cancer, brain tumors, becoming invalid etc.
the children of them that are now around 60 are just so distraught at seeing their parents deteriorate.
In case someone has not seen this... Mouritz is now 96 years old, btw...

elders and ministerial servants have their kingdom ministry school every year, the cobe of every congregation has to check that everyone is fully vaccinated.
after the school everyone will ask any bothers who were not there why not?
It is interesting how many witnesses have woken up because of this issue. I was just watching some new interviews on Beroean Pickets youtube channel and almost everyone mentioned that this was the last straw for them.
ok, so another favourite female protagonist of mine is ellen ripley, played by sigourney weaver.
she just about overcame the xenomorph in ridley scott's alien (1979).

Those 2 were both great films. It was such a shame that Newt's story didn't continue in the third one. David Fincher, the director of the 3rd one, hates that film with passion and doesn't even want to talk about it.

he was a jw in sweden who was challenged by a householder in the 1960s, who pointed out to him that secular history books don’t agree with watchtower that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, but instead place the event 20 years later.
the reason the date is important is because it is the starting date for jw chronology which leads to 1914 as the end of the gentile times, and the beginning of the last days, as jws understand it.
Sad indeed. His health had been quite poor for some years now, he lived with her wife in a nursing home, I believe.
I often wish internet and youtube had existed back in the 80s. Carl, Ray Franz, James Penton and all the other legends could have had their own youtube channels and could have exposed it all. But back then it was only books they could write and witnesses were too afraid to buy them.
