WERE YOU TREATED POORLY IN THE CONGREGATION?
by minimus inwhen you were associated in the congregation, were you treated in a way that made you feel like you were a 2nd class citizen?
how were you regarded?
were you the brunt of criticism or were you pretty much well-liked?

It makes me feel sick to hear such dis respect for Jehovah.
I dont believe that we were talking about Jehovah were we? Is'nt this thread about congregations? Did I miss something?
All I can say is that you should all go and live it up now because your happiness is not going to last for long.

Anyway, was I treated badly in the congregation? YES! On several occasions. I will not say all Jw's treated me badly, there were some really lovely people I knew in the org, but there was some bad experiences. I had about 3 congregations spreading rumours about me when I was 16 - I dyed my hair black, I was labelled a witch and a satanist, not just by gossipy youths, but mothers and a few elders too. That was some really upbuilding encouragement for that hard time in my life, I was trying to get over a personal truama (inflicted by a fellow JW which I choose not to discuss just yet) and it was just the support I needed from this "loving" congregation.
I was also deemed a "Bad Associate" by alot of people because I had not yet been baptised - I was never ready, and did'nt feel that I should be pressured into doing it, just because all my friends were. So mothers started warning all their teenagers about me, the mother of my best friend even said to her: "If IBD isnt baptised by the end of this year, I forbid you to associate with her anymore". That was a real help in the motivation of devoting my life to this organisation.
Another friends father(elder) told her that I was a"Bad Association" because I dont look up enough scriptures during the meetings, and dont close my eyes during the prayer - how the hell would he know that, I wonder - What an idiot.
These are probably really petty compared to some truamas others have been through, but hey, every little bit helps.

by Nowhere ini had a conversation with an active witness from the usa lately.
and when talking about child upbringing he stated that some children need a spank sometimes.
of course i was upset because of that, and i didn't thought witnesses was that stupid.

no, i don't think some kids are born bad where the hell did that come from??! i agree that sometimes a kid needs a smack on the ass to smarten up.
I second this. And thats all they need - a quick slap on the butt - VERY RARELY. I would never hit my kid in the face though, or on any other part of the body. I think an open hand slap is ok.

blondie, it just all comes down to sales does'nt it? I train my sales team to do exactly the same thing: Social Approach, Establish needs and wants, show features and benefits, listen, ask open ended questions, yadda yadda yadda. We've even got a book similar to "Reasoning from the scriptures" for every rejection. One slight difference though - we are actually sucessful in our client interest.
O.k, I hated the doors, and it went a little like this.
Mother and daughter out witnessing, daughter frantically looking around her to make sure no high school mates are around. Daughter grasps silly WT and Awake, dreading the door. Daughter pretends to ring bell, but doesnt actualy press it, mother nudges her in back "KNOCK" says mother. Daughter knocks, shooting mother dirty look. Youngish guy comes to door, daughter trys to hide behind mothers back but mother expertly sidesteps so daughter is revealed.
Daughter: "Um, hi, were just calling around your neighbourhood today (voice quickens almost to the point of non-recognition) and offering these two magazines, the WT and Awake, this one (flashing guy Awake very quickly) has a very interesting article called "Walruses - what are they good for?" - i'm sure you will enjoy them - they are just 80c to cover the printing cost"
Young guy: "Um........"
Daughter: "No? No problem, see you later" Daughter power walks back down driveway with mother running to keep up.
That was the basically the context of every single presentation I ever made, under the force of my parents. I absolutely hated witnessing.

Has the org slackened on competitive sports?

my brother (active jw) is now playing competitive football with a heap of worldly people.. my dad (also faithful jw) is playing competitive soccer.. nothing has been said about the "lures" of competitive sport and everyone seems fine with it.. has the gb slackened with this dire "consceince" issue, or what?.
does anyone have any comments or answers?.

Nothing has been said about the "Lures" of competitive sport and everyone seems fine with it.
Has the GB slackened with this dire "Consceince" issue, or what?

DID YOU ALLOW BAD ASSOCIATIONS?
by minimus inbeing raised as a witness, i was taught to have nothing to do with worldly people.
as long as they were not dedicated, baptized worshippers of jehovah, they were considered as wicked ones that would soon be destroyed at armaggedon.
in school and later, at work, i tried to keep a safe distance from anyone not a witness.

I was never allowed to hang out with "worldly" kids at all - no school camps, competitive sports, ect. I had some really good friends that I loved in high school, and they were constantly asking me out to their get togethers. I was never allowed.
Funny though, because the best friends I have now are "worldly' ones, whereas all my JW friends dont have much to do with me. When I was in, I was treated terribly by alot of my "Good" associate friends. The last JW party I had, I had one worldly (Studying) boyfriend there. (is now my husband), and he could'nt believe how badly behaved the dubs were. I had around 10 cds stolen that night, people were snogging all over the place, and everyone was plastered.
Needless to say, he was'nt too impressed with their conduct. he stopped his study shortly after, but this was only a very small part of the reason.
Aaah.... those good, wholesome dub associates!

Hasn't the history and goals of the society PROVED that Jehovah is behind it? Doesn't the society strain to keep to fairness, honesty, goodness AND adhere as best as possible to Jah's Bible?

I guess this means the WTS will be getting rid of its website?
This is a good point, and one I always think of when I think about the Wt coming down hard on the internet. They can only warn people of the "proper" use of the internet, not discourage it's use altogether.

What are JW's embarrased to say to interested ones
by In_between_days inmy latest addition to my thread "armageddon - jw speculations" got me thinking.
i was talking about jw's, and how they will avoid telling people at the doors that they believe they will be the only ones to survive armageddon.. i know when i was a jw, there was certain things that i was embarrased to tell interested ones about, and prefered to avoid the issue, or prance around it, trying to make it sound less harsh, or make me look like a complete nut.
when i talk to my jw family now, i notice there are certain issues that they will try to deny about the organisation, constantly.
