I agree with the viewpoint of the ORG as a whole, however there are a few who genuinely believe that Jehovah God almighty sovereign of the universe speaks to them thru 12 guys in NY. And they get really confused when their natural "friendship" conflicts with what they're told. Because JWs often prey on the uneducated and and "less intelligent" (sorry for the truth here) they don't have the capacity to truly "think" for themselves. These people can be true friends, but Jehovah has told them to act a certain way and so they will inspite of their true feelings for friends. Of the 20 or so "friends" I had 2 or 3 are in this category.

I hate that we can't have a thread on the Bible being the word of God without other nonsense getting in the way! For those who have questions about the Bible being God's word it doesn't make any difference what it says about the Trinity the nature of Christ or anything else - Don't we have enough Trinity topics out there?

JWs don't teach this. I could find nothing about this scripture applying to an earthly hope. Jesus is the only one who taught "the meek would inherit the earth" all NT writers noy quoting Jesus give the heavenly hope as the ONLY hope for christians. I personally think little of the NT claim to inspiration, but that is a discussion JWs are not capable of having - generally speaking.

Are you trying to say Science doesn't always date things right? Duh. Are you trying to say that Ice rings disprove evolution in some way? Evolution has nothing to do with flood theories sorry unrelated topics.

Wars, earthquakes and famines are not signs of the end
by Doug Mason inin the late 1960s and early 1970s, i wrote my study, 1914 and all that.
in it, i stated that at matthew 24 jesus warned his followers against seeing wars, earthquakes and famines as being signs.
i have not wavered from that position, which i have given in my posts here at times.. .

The whole Point of Jesus' parables in Matt 24 are YOU don't know when I'm coming. One will be taken one left behind - Keep on the watch - Faithful slave - Evil slave - follish vigins - discreet virgins - slave w/5 talents, 2 talents, 1 talent. sheep and goats. ALL THE SAME ILLUSTRATION! You personally need to be a faithful, sheeplike, discreet, slave that is keeping on the watch for your saviour, because YOU have no idea when he is coming.
Spike - I've looked at appendix 1D - the Greek scriptures NEVER use God's name YHWH. It is added to fit the interpreter's doctrine no other reason.

For me a real problem with the Bible is the idea of "the inerrant word of God" that fundamentalists(like JWs) have. No where do the books in the bible claim that they are inspired (except = The "word of Jehovah" that prophets write and 2 Tim 3:16). If there is a God and he revealed himself to Moses in that burning bush - I believe that inspiration should only be claimed for the parts that claim inspiration. (and then judged) The creation account, flood account, most of the "history" in the bible DO NOT CLAIM inspiration. They are the understanding that people had at that time and as such are valuable.
The God of this universe is an experimenter. Look at the stars. There are 2 Galaxies colliding right now. God doesn't seem to care. Look at the proof of evolution in the world around us. Pretty random based on natural phenomenon. The idea that He is the Author of a book is silly. He might intervene once to say "Hey don't murder, steal, lie ... I don't like it." Then we humans take those simple things and build ridiculous religions around them. Then Jesus says "Love your neighbor" he gets crucified and we have eons of war, torture, and martyrs. When are we gonna learn?

I Am The Son Of Man, Who Am I?
by Son of Man injesus christ was born of holy spirit, and is the son of god; the almighty.. the seed of jesus christ was placed in the womb of his earlthy mother to mature.. jesus christ was a perfect man, therrfore no impurities of imperfection passed on to jesus christ.. it is written; a bad tree cannot produce good fruit, therefore jesus christ was soley of god, and not of mary.. i am the son of man, who am i ?.
the son of man is none other then the faithful and discreet slave.......of human decent.. he will pierce the heart of satan the devil in due season.......amen.
the final blow will come from "god the almighty" as the wicked are devoured before the eyes of humankind........ we are in the final hour of human existance as we know it.

Play the Devil's Advocate
by nbernat inso my family wants to talk to me about my "doubts" and i know they'll try to defend everything they can in any way that they can so i just want to be prepared and see what they might say (what you would have said as a witness or what you've heard others say) so that i could rebut it on the spot.. if the fds is directed by the holy spirit why have they been wrong before?
"light gets brighter...." but that's not the case because there would be no reason to go back to old policies after changing them...the light certainly doesn't get brighter, then darker, then brighter, etc.if god is omniscient why did he create satan knowing he would rebel or adam and eve knowing they would sin?

The FDS are imperfect men. Jehovah always uses iperfect men to lead his people. Noah, Moses, Joshua, gosh David was really imperfect, Peter, Paul, James, and other first century "Governing Body members".
As far as God's omniscience - "Free will" would be pointless if God knew the results ahead of time, so he restrains himself from looking at the INDIVIDUALs future choices.
For me the question of the FDS being wrong is not the compelling question. It is "what basis does the governing body have to exercise authority?" This has gotten me more distance than anything else. They always want to talk about obeying being scriptural. I'll just agree and say that if there is evidence that God gave them authority over me I'll follow along. If they go down the choosing of the FDS in 1919 it gets easier. "On what basis were they chosen - What were they teaching?" [I have an article on that if your interested.] "How does this give authority to the Governing Body?" In the August 15, 2009 WT they clearly point out that the FDS does NOT SHARE in "distributing food at the proper time" - only the GB! WTF? The FDS is the FDS because they "give food at the proper time", but they don't only 12 people do? .... It is nonsense as I'm sure you can see.

The "Bible" is not a book. It is a collection of books. Each book would have to be discussed on its own merit - not as if it were one book written by one person. ALL christian faiths I have discussed this with want to say "the Bible" and cannot even have a discussion about the books themselves.
Many OT books have good authority and most have a historical accuracy that is supported. They are accepted as HOLY books by 2/3 of the world. Christians/Muslims/Jews.
NT books - Still debated to this day what belongs. Only Revelation "claims" inspiration. Of course Paul claims a personal "inspiration" that did not come from the established church, but he never said "God is telling me to write this" Like Moses and Daniel and many of the "prophets" did.
A discussion of the Bible as a classic church collection of books is one thing - you could argue that one book belongs were another doesn't. But a discussion of the "inerrant word of God" is something else. No support for this is given in history or the scriptures themselves (exc. 2Tim 3:16 - where scriptures = OT)
There is about 2,000 years worth of research and debate on this topic.
