Who could be banned for life from serving as an Elder?
by JWoods inno, i didn't mean sisters.
seriously - two or three things made me think about it:.
first, recent threads made it clear that several here have seen people get dfd, re-instated, and eventually become elders.

what was the reaction to princess Di's death in your cong?
by highdose ini know it was over ten years but it occured today that it was the first time i was shocked by the reaction of the the dubs.
the general opinion seemed to be that yes it was "sad" ... but actauly it was very good news that she had been killed now, because that meant that she would get a resserection!
and of course seeing that she had led such an immoral life, she would never have survived armargeddon had she lived!.

Wow! I never heard of that! WHich assembly venue was that?
In the group study that I was in it (I was an elder but not the group overseer) was split down the middle about going in field ministry on the Saturday of the funeral - half - including me said they weren't going out as it didn't "feel right" - the other half led by the spineless group overseer's dominant wife did.

"grotty" is a British unoffensive slang word meaning unpleasant, miserable, squalid or offensive.
e.g "that elder is a grotty little man" "the secretary's job is pretty grotty at times" "the mothers' room is a bit grotty and tatty"

Is it possible for an Elder to get back his "priviledges" after being demoted?
by african GB Member infor example, if he was demoted due to one of his children(who are still under him) being df'd or is no longer "exemplary".. agbm.

Yes he can get his "privileges" back.
It seems a bit tighter nowadays in the UK - as said above - if you resign (and if you subsequently would not have been removed anyway - BoE's are supposed to look at resignations of those who jump before they're pushed and ask themselves whether they would have removed the resigner had he stayed!) for over a year you will usually have to be an MS first. But you can often be an elder within 6 months to a year of that if your body like you.
If you are removed you have to be an MS first. If you are reproved and removed then you have to wait at least 3 years to be an MS first and usually (if there was no notoriety) it will be about 5 - 7 before you could be an elder from reproof date. If you are DF'd then it's a minimum of 5 years to be an MS from reinstatement and probably approaching a total of 7 - 9 to be an elder again.
In around about 2000(?) a procedure was brought in where "your kids could bring you down" - say you've got 4 kids living at home and one goes bad in jw terms - then unless the body really hate you you'll survive. (But they'll check if your family study was regular and if you ignored previous counsel to get junior in line then you might well be on your way.) If two kids "go bad" then you might lose your privs. If three, then it don't look good, buddy! And if all 4 go out then you're definitely gonna be toast!
I did hear rumour of a guy in Cornwall, England who couldn't cope with "the judicial stuff" but was prepared to be an MS and his body were enlightened enough to ask the branch in the UK who then allowed it in the late 1990's early 2000's but I cannot confirm that as I got it from a prominent know it all elder who seemed to be about 80% right in what he blabbed to me.

CoBoE: Thanks for the schedule Bro. CO; I notice that Mrs. CO has a phantom dietary requirement that means she has to have a vegetarian, martian, hypochondrarian diet? That's fine. (thinks: Oh jeez!)
Oh, you need a bed with no down feathers in the duvet because you have an allergy to "natural" stuff - ok - I'll sort that!
Of course you can have a room facing West because the bright sunlight in the mornings plays up your eyes ...
And the sister at your accommodation address must not wear perfume because it brings you out in hives - understood.
And what's this? Your wife needs to sit in the front of the kingdom hall because the paint has a chemical of homeopathic proportions and it brings her out in blotches - riiiiigggghhhhtt!
No, no! No problem at all.
CoBoE walks away, gets five paces away, turns round and says: Look. I'll cover your *ss! Why don't you leave us alone for the week, take your wife on holiday, pleasure her repeatedly until she screams with satisfaction and your knob is as orange as a carrot, and have a case of fine wine to help you forget what a sad life you really lead! Here's a hundred bucks to get you started on your way ....

C.O.'s: Why Are Elders Such Cowards?
by metatron inthe stories never stop.
abusive, egotistical, demanding, ungrateful and arrogant circuit overseers all over the place and "men" -the elders - take it.. i have seen a number of these itinerant predators offend entire congregations with their behavior and i can count the incidents where elders actually showed some b@lls and stood up to them on one hand.
why are elders such cowards?

If you believe jw doctrine and "being appointed by holy spirit" of the CO and yourself - and I suppose most elders sat in a meeting with a CO do - then that puts the brakes on them speaking out. If a CO rides roughshod over a body of elders in those circumstances then anyone speaking out will be quickly crushed by the CO's "authority" and the elders compliance with "Jehovah's arrangement".
If you don't beleive all the above rubbish and you're still on the body then Jeff T's "middle manager" scenario in his post above is absolutely spot on. I know this from being in exactly that position. When I resigned as an elder in around 2004 it was due to a strong difference of opinion with the CO and the other elders simply did a lot of handwringing and basically said they would keep their heads down for a couple of years and wait for the CO to "move on." When he left they actually asked me to go back on the body but I was free and clear and still well thought of in the congregation so declined.
Back then I still beleived (gullible fool that I was) enough that if the Holy Spirit was really involved then that CO would be removed at the end of his three year slot (which was due up in 2006) because his behaviour - arrogance, going overtime bigtime, shouting on the platform - was being whispered about in all the congregations in our circuit and being brought up with the DO and the branch. But no ... He went on to another circuit and did exactly the same and has just been sent to another one where he is up to his old tricks again. (Ecclesiastes 8 v 11 )
So for me, standing up to the CO was the best thing I ever did - I resigned from being an elder on the service committee and had no more group to look after or regional build responsibilities - and just sat back. But if anyone wants action taken against a CO they'd better have big gun back up and a cast iron case of almost judicial proportions.

Have her over and let her stay overnight at your house but you and your wife go to your grown childrens' house for dinner as you planned and your mother can stay at yours and watch the TV!
