Birthday Celebrations & other shenanigans
by homeschool inwell, here's my latest "thing"...i plan on speaking with my siblings & their mates in the near future.
i have told them that i have questions regarding some doctrines, mainly stuff like birthdays, mother's day, father's day, etc.
my hubby has some questions for them regarding their wacky blood doctrine (but i wont cover that in this thread).

hat tipping is of Satanic origin and it causes divorce
by lilyflor inhat tipping and rising when a woman leaves the table or enters a room......wt52 april 15 qfr.
i dare say satan's ways are as mysterious as god's.
(i now have to wonder if letting a woman on or off the elevator first is part of satan's schemes).

I have a conundrum....armchair psychologist needed!
by journey-on inyou have to make a life changing choice.
you approach the choice one way and your spouse advocates a different approach.
the nature of the situation removes any possibility of a compromised arrangement.

Which result can you better live with? Having the matter come out your way and alienating (offending, hurting, risk losing, whatever the case may be) your husband or pleasing your husband while permanently living with a change you don't want. Do whichever you think you can live with in the long-run.

If you have to give up your dog, please watch this video
by restrangled inbecause of the economy, so many people can no longer afford to take care of their pets, or have to move to a location where pets are not allowed.
with the best of intentions, many famlies think they have found a loving new home.. thanks for watching.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra11c8y5mku.

I can't bring myself to watch it.
My mother and I would like to get a dog soon. My intent is to get one from someone who is unable to keep their pet.

then wtf was it ok for us to withold that salvation over something as non-biblical and trivial as birthdays??? The onus IS NOT on "worldly" people to see birthdays as "no big deal, just follow the 'faithful slave'", since the "faithful slave" doesn't have a logical coherent argument.
I looked around and thought "are we interested in saving lives, or not?" That's what it comes down to. JW's make a big deal about "stumbling". Well why don't they practice what they preach and stop "stumbling" worldly people away from Jehovah with their silly, non-biblical, contradicted by their own writings, birthday psuedo-doctrine?
Wow. There are a lot of good arguments for birthdays on this thread, but this is the Best. One. Ever.
When people used to ask me why we didn't celebrate birthdays, I had to explain, "If you look at any one reason, it's not really compelling, but when you add up all the many little reasons it just seems like its best not to do it."

August 1 Watchtower on my desk!
by AK - Jeff inmy wife encountered a jw today at the uptown laundry where she goes to dry blankets and large items from time to time.. i had just asked her an hour earlier to look around and see if any mags were laying around there - i don't know why.
i just wanted to see if any major layout changes were taking place with the watchliar and asleep lately.. i have not opened them.
i am looking though at the cover of the tower - cover title 'how can you choose a good religion?
-

The title on the cover is all about PR. Most people nowadays do not like the idea that one religion (at least within Christianity) is more right than another one. They are turned off by that idea. But a "good" religion--well who doesn't want that? They pull the bait and switch in the article.
