i was reading in the spanish forum (http://www.extj.com/foro/showthread.php?t=15396) that an old sister died from a heart atack during the memorial, but that didn't stop the ritual.
i remember a lonley very sick sister calling for help to the kh during an emergency, and the elders told her, they were busy in an elder's meeting.
she almost died and was rushed into the hospital by 'worldy' people.
The saddest I remember was a one week old baby that died in the 100 degree heat of an outside assembly in Chicago.
Wow that right there made my jaw hit the floor. Why would anyone take a one week old baby to an assembly in that kind of heat? Forget the heat, a ONE WEEK old baby!!! How sad that the parents felt it was so important to be at the assembly that they would risk the well being of their child. I bet they were praised for being there and taking care of their spiritual needs first.
one of the first baby dolls i gave my granddaughter was a cute little black baby doll.
she still has it in her car seat and if you try to take her doll from her she says, "my baby!!
" typically little children are color blind.
I don't judge people on skin color or nationality. I see with my eyes the color of their skin and might have an idea what their nationality is, just like I see with my eyes the color and make of a car, or the color and species of an animal. But that doesn't do anything to make me think of that person a certain way or judge what they must be like.
in the congregation bible study for the week of nov 30, the subject of christmas is studied (along with easter, birthdays, and halloween), but under the subheading related to christmas being a pagan holiday, jesus not being born on dec 25, yadda yadda, the point is brought out that true christians give out of love, not out of compulsion or on any specific day (not the exact quote mind you).
true christians give out of love...so all the "bad" christians who give presents to family and friends and loved ones on christmas don't do so because they love those to whom they give gifts, but rather because they have to...because its dec 25...?.
is this the kind of tactic the wts has employed to maintain control of their followers?
sometimes the only time of year a parent can afford to get their chiild something is at Christmas, because of all the sales. i just wish JWs could understand that instead of getting all crazy about what the roots of the holiday are.
it makes me think about charity work as well. i never understood why they didn't allow that. i never read any scriptures on Jehovah hating those who help feed people or clothe them or give them something to make them feel just a tiny bit happier at least for a little while. Jesus focused mainly on preaching, yeah I get that, but if he saw a poor family with nothing to eat I doubt he would just give them a sermon and walk off leaving them hungry.
if you are deal or no deal contestant, i have seen one guy turned down little more than $200,000 and he ended up getting $10.

I get so irritated at those people that turn down a hefty amount of change to go the big money, only to walk off the show with barely enough for a cab ride to the airport! I think to myself, if I was offered 50k I would take it! It's 50k more than I started out with!
But then again, if everyone just took the first deal they got, it probably wouldn't be much of a show

i haven't posted much here but i feel like i need some support right now.
i did post my story, but basically i'm 27, married for 7 years and i was df'd in july.
i always knew i didn't want to be a jw but went along with everything because of fear.
Hi Jen, sorry to hear you are going through this. I can tell you from experience that it does get easier, but because you make it easier.
I was DF'd for a long time, and wanted to get reinstated so that I could have my friends back and so my husband's family could talk to me again (kind of a dumb reason I know, but I thought it was what I needed at the time) I was reinstated nearly 2 months ago, and guess what? None of my so called friends have even tried to get in contact with me. To them I will always be the one that got DF'd. I will always have that mark now.
Your parents might be having a hard time trying to figure out if they should ignore what they have been brainwashed to think and just accept you as their daughter no matter what. I hope that they come around and continue to keep in contact with you and your kids. But if they choose not to, just know that it's their loss. You will feel better in time; it wont be this way forever. Hang in there.
well, today is my birthday and i will be getting a real cake with a real candle - my dear bride-to-be promised not to put 43 candles on the cake.
it is just going to be me, her, and her 8 year old (and soon to be my step) son.
nothing fancy.

Lost Generation - and here I thought that they actually gave their kids MORE presents than non-jw families to make up for missing the holidays. Ha! That's what they advertise, not what they follow through on.
Witnesses don't give gifts except on special days, like bridal showers, weddings, graduations, baby showers, retirement parties,
and anniversaries. Sooo...no compulsion there, nooooo.

Really? Is this the kind of tactic the WTS has employed to maintain control of their followers? Actually implying that only THEY give gifts out of love, that the billions of other people on this earth that give each other gifts do it only because its "that time of year"?!!!!!

We've got one wannabe female opera singer who always uses a very obnoxious vibratto.
We have one of those too, way off key, and who messes up the words and fumbles everyone else! Very irritating
