I think studies of Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 are always interesting. I was unable to read all of the initial post only because of eye strain, but it is interesting.

The Importance of being a Newbie
by johnathanseagull init wasn't that long ago that i was a newbie here and hung on every thread and reply.
in the short time i've been here, many things i've learnt, many attitudes, many opinions, but the one thing i remember most of all is how i was welcomed here.
never ever underestimate how a simple hello can mean to a newbie.. j gull

Well, if this were a high school, we'd have called you "freshman" and knocked your books down.
Or maybe this is just another cult, and you were "love bombed".....with reality soon to set in.
Just playing of course. Welcome Johnathan, and I'm glad to see that you felt like you received a warm welcome.

Is "questions from readers" made up b...
by SpannerintheWorks inan ex-jw friend of mine once agreed with me that the letters in the "questions from readers" section in the wt/awake!
were all made up by the wbts.. does anybody have any evidence either way?.
has anybody had their "question" published?.

I've always felt that these "questions" have a made-up feel to them. Also, I'd like to see how many real questions never make it to print. I'm sure they get a lot of real stuff that they don't have the courage to touch with the proverbial ten-foot pole.
Another guess is that the questions may be culled from a number of queries received on a similar topic.

Congregation get-togethers
by freedom96 indid your hall ever organize times for the congregation to do activities?.
about every 6-9 months, mine would have a congregation picnic.
people would bring food, and we would play a softball game.

This was such a back-and-forth topic locally. Witnesses would have congreagtion picnics, then one time the CO came through and said no to "large gatherings" due to the chance for 'wrongdoing' to take place among a large number of people.
Then, the green light seemed to be given some years later, and now, picnics are back in vogue. My family was not invited to the last one - I guess making one-two meetings per week was not good enough.
I would have to agree that such gatherings were, overall, discouraged. It would be frustrating to try restricting association to Witnesses only, then finding that crowd size was also a restriction.

Reconciliation w Tina & Julie
by Amazing ina few days ago minimus posted a thread on flame wars at: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=39526&site=3 ... in it i commented about tina & julie, who posted here until about late february or early march, and acknowledged that i could and should have acted as a friend toward them rather than being like a lawyer ... being right or fighting over what seems right is not always as important as concern for people and what they are going through.
i failed them in this regard.
a couple of people shared my comments with them, and both tina and julie responded right away in email to me.

Well, I'll say it again - Amazing, you're a stand-up guy for making the effort at reconciliation and admitting that some mistakes were made.
As for Julie and Tina (both of whom I do not know at all, even in an online sense) both of you are stand-up gals.
This is nice stuff to read and hear about.

Good post, though obviously a very sad one. For him to consider you and your sister as "dead" to him is very sad indeeed. We can only hope that one day the hard attitude of such people will soften.

Since there was some talk here about the Dolphins.........The last time the Dolphins won a Super Bowl was Super Bowl VIII, a 24-7 win over Minnesota. It was Miami's second straight Super Bowl win, and their third straight appearance (they won SB VII the year before, beating Washington 14-7 to complete their "perfect"* 1972 season. They had lost SB VI to Dallas 24-3).
Miami also appeared in SB XVII, losing 27-17 to Washington. They lost to San Francisco 38-19 in SB IXX, after the 1984 season.
* As each NFL season begins, members of that 1972 Dolphins team chill a bottle of champagne, to be opened when the last unbeaten team (this year it was the Raiders after a 4-0 start) loses their first game of the season.

Hey WT, I said I'd try to revisit this thread when some games had been played in the NFL season, and I remembered.
Gutlessly avoiding the preseason predictions, I am now going to post my Super Bowl pick after half the season has elapsed.
Though gutless, such an approach is prudent. After all, look how many teams have alread run into problems this season after being touted as Super-Bowl shoe-ins.....the Rams, Patriots, Raiders, and Titans, among others.
My picks - Eagles and Broncos to play in the Super Bowl.
BTW, congrats to Emmitt Smith.....if I needed to win a game, I'd want him in my backfield, taking handoffs from Joe Montana.
