I am with this organization that coordinates volunteer work via their site. They have 6 chapters established in US. They place the project and location on their site and rely on people in the area to manage the events and advertise for helpers. The type of volunteer work varies from feeding the homeless to volunteering at large scale festivals and some restoration of disaster zone areas. Very good program and they even encourage mix and mingles among the volunteers.

Assembly changes
by d ini was wondering what changes have you seen with assemblies now.compared to assemblies in the 1950's..

Girlie
Assemblies and DAs are nothing more than exaggerated hype of same old rubbish.

Why Would YOU Never Go Back To The Witnesses?
by minimus ini think my mains reasons would be i don't believe they have "truth".
and i refuse to allow them control over me..
-
Girlie
I see no need in returning back to that train wreck of a religion. Learning what I know about them and enjoying a life of true living will forbid me to ever want to be bothered with them.

Don't you DARE to get up!!
by stillin9 ininteresting points from this week's wt study (dec 15 2010 study edition):.
par 12: "do i encourage my children not to view the song between the theocratic ministry school and the service meeting or the one between the public talk and the watchtower study as a sort of intermission,an opportunity for them to leave their seats unnecessarily, perhaps just to stretch their legs?".
why do they have to make such a big deal out of everything?

"Par 11: "i f you were thrown into prison, how many of our Kingdom songs would you be able to sing from memory?"
Seriously? Singing KM songs would be the last thing to consider if I were thrown into some prison.

Demonstrations From the Platform
by DarioKehl ingood evening, all.... still relatively new here so if i'm posting about a topic that's already been run into the ground, i apologize.
but i just wanted to acknowledge the typical "demo" we all see at meetings, assemblies and conventions.
even back when i was a good-goody teen dub, my brother, friends and i would jokingly refer to demos as "5-minute illustrations on how to say 'no.'".

LMAO Can't wait to see some creative demos myself. Thanks for the thread and laugh!

Do you think a lot of JWs are ashamed of their beliefs?
by I quit! inthe reason i asked this is because i'm going to the funeral of a man who wasn't a jw.
my mother-in-law has lived in the same neighborhood as him for years and knows his wife.
i asked her if she was going attend the funeral service.

In the beginning, I felt proud to be a JW. However, the more closely I examined the doctrines, the odd behaviors of deeply committed members and just how far removed from reality this religion truly is, the more embarassing it became to me and couldn't continue being one.
Even now, if I had to admit to acquaintances of my having been affiliated with JW, I notice a sheepish grin I get from them as if they were embarassed for me.

Believers: Does Jesus Personally Talk to You?
by leavingwt insome of my christian co-workers have related to me how jesus has spoken to them.
one of the comments that i remember specifically, was this:.
"jesus put it on my heart to [take a certain course of action].

I don't hear an audible voice from him, but I feel his presence when I pray and get those inner promptings from him when I am making a specific prayer over a matter.

How Many Of You "Reached Out" For Extra "Privileges"?
by minimus inwhether you are a male or female, the organization was always making you try to reach out for extra privileges whether it be pioneering for a month, year or a lifetime, going to bethel, or becoming a "servant" in the hall.. did you feel compelled to "reach out" or did you want to do more for "jehovah god"?.
-
Girlie
Yes, I reached out for free labor extra privileges as a faithful J-dub.

I feel so guilty for refusing to help the sister of an elder who DF'd me years ago.
by african GB Member ini recently moved to another province/state, after i got a job there.
the sister of one of the elders who were on my jc (about 8 years ago) also got the job around the same area about two weeks ago.
i could'nt believe my ears when i got the call from that elder asking me to accomodate her sister in my spare bedroom, until she finds her own place.

Is there something wrong with his house that his sister can't live with him? You are under no obligation to support a stranger.

To all you apostates out there - aka failed JW's
by donnye inby opening this post, you are admitting that you are failures - well done!

I guess the preaching work can't be too fulfilling for you; otherwise, why would you be on here chatting with us failed JW? Don't you have some poor householder to harass save?
