Friends dad committed suicide...
by MrFreeze inan old friend from in the jw's dad (who was a non-jw) committed suicide the other day.
i've been trying to call him for days but he doesn't answer.
probably doesn't want to talk to someone "lawless and demon-infested".

Old freind from old jw life, trying to get in touch...
by highdose ini happened to access my old email address today.
amongst the many spams etc was a email from a old jw freind i used to know when i was in.
this was a nice freind to me, right up until she got herself a boyfreind and then just didn't want to know, in fact i hadn't heard from her since.

Well, you could always drop a line and say hello, but leave it at that. Maybe she wants out now,you never know. But,just be cautious,as you said, you don't want to ruin a successful fade.

Things I have heard about California JW's
by mamalove inafter reading the two piece bikini discussion and the comment about calipornea, it reminded me of something i used to hear about the jw attitude in general there.
that it was extremely lax compared to mid west or other areas.. people were supposedly not df'd when they would most definitely been elsewhere, and more "worldy" type of dress and grooming were tolerated well.. is this correct at least in some areas?
if so, do you think it has to do with money, or the general culture there?.

I heard a lot of stories mainly about Southern California. It was always about sisters wearng leather skirts out in service and brothers wearing earrings. Plus,a lot of stories of wife swapping. And I have yet to find this hall!!

After Reinstatement
by NewChapter ini never had anyone close to me d'fd when i was still in my jw daze.
but i know that once it happens, good friends are crushed and desperately want that person reinstated.
when they are reinstated, there is a lot of (quiet) celebration.

When I was in my teens and a friend of mine was disfellowshipped,I was quite crushed. I was very happy when she was reinstated. But, it wasn't the same, mainly because we were at different places in our lives. I was still the naive pioneer, and she had a baby and was a single, young mother.
She eventually got disfellowshipped again, and I recently got in contact with her. And it is nice catching up,but it will never be the same, mainly because we were so young when we were friends.

So I asked my female coworker what she was doing this weekend............
by miseryloveselders inbut her reply made me so very envious.
you know my mother always would tell me, "wordly people aren't really happy.
" as a kid that always bugged me because i figured if people are laughing, smiling, and generally having a good time, they must be happy.

Well, I hope Misery is having a nice day in field service,it's almost break time. We usually took ours around 10:30 or 11,then return visits.

Born in, Faded, want to date but......
by SearchingForMe inborn a dub.
never dated while in because i "wasn't ready for marriage", haven't dated since fade because i really don't want to burden my girlfriend with the bull@#% of dating me while i still have to put up a facade of being "just inactive" to my family so they won't shun me.. this sucks.
i want to be happy.

I know it's easier said than done, because I'm in the same situation. But,you have to live your life. We no longer have forever to put it off.
Just go slowly, and just meet new people,non-Witnesses. If you meet someone you want to go out with, who says your family even needs to know about it. If it would get serious, maybe then, but have fun. I know it's hard to get out of the Witness mentality to only date for marriage. But, just think of it, as a way of getting to know new people.
I know it's painful, and I get discouraged about this very thing myself. But, we can't live our lives to make other people happy, and for us to be miserable. Your family may eventually come around and be accepting. If not,it is your life.

Assembly Germs
by EmptyInside ini may jinx myself with this post.
but, i haven't been really sick for over a year.
and i think it's because i haven't been to the hall that much, and i stopped going to circuit assemblies, which have always been huge germ fests.. after the circuit assembly this year, i heard of a lot of families, especially with small children, all having the stomach flu.

I knew I would jinx myself. I woke up feeling sick today, but that might be because I went to the meeting Sunday.
