Russian Parliament Approves Military Action in the Crimea

why did russian president vladimir putin ask the russian parliament to approve using military forces to keep the peace in the crimea, instead of asking the un?

why did the russian parliment pass a law approving military force instead of asking for the un to send peace keeping forces to the crimea (http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/01/world/europe/ukraine-politics/index.html?hpt=hp_t1)?.

is russia spiralling into a totalitarian dictatorship like germany in the 1930's and the soviet union from 1920's - 1990's with information control and coercive tactics?

It is clear that Putin's goal is to rebuild either the Soviet Union or Imperial Russia, I don't think he cares which one it is as long as he's on top. Accordingly he does not want peace in Ukraine, he wants to take it over. Given President Obama's comments on lines in the sand in Syria and the like, I don't think he sees in downside to making the attempt. To be fair, I hope we stay out of this one, war with Russia will get ugly fast.

Band, do you have a picture of these guys? If they're wearing camo, take a close look for insigna, its there but also camouflaged.

Is North Korea starting to prosper?

dr leonid petrov (one of my former teachers at sydney u) notes that there are increasing signs or prosperity in nk.

in the mid 1990's the dprk population suffered from an aggravated famine that was likely linked to an industrial collapse.

western trade embargoes probably made the situation even worse, but since the administration would not reveal information, it may be a long time before we know the details.. but strangely, there seem some to be some increasing signs of prosperity.. .

There are new high rise apartments in Pyongyang, and more modern cars on the road

I count all of five cars in that picture. I suppose that if there weren't any a couple of years ago, that is a big increase percentage-wise. Makes me wonder what the inside of those buildings look like.

Syncis....sounds like another MLM scheme

my sister who is 26 and a jw, recently quit her job to join this "company" that helps people invest for retirement.

she has a masters and was working in education.

now she's sold on syncis.

OneGen, did they say anything about recruiting your friends and making money off what they sell? If so you're right, its an MLM. If not, they're just obnoxious sales people. If its and MLM, I think the SEC will be after them shortly.

I took a few minutes looking at their company website. I don't think its an MLM, its just a marketing group. All of their people seem to be paid on commission, which means there financial advice will be based on what is best for their commissions. And if they run off with your money you may or may not be able to get it back from Syncis, minus what you pay a lawyer.

Bottom line: you could walk into your bank and get a better deal. If you really want to save for the future, look up a good certified financial planner.

Somebody asked Thomas Edison about all the things he'd tried to build that didn't work, did they make him feel like a failure? His reply "I'm not a failure, I've proven that thousands of things can't be done."

Same way with being a witness, I learned that all kinds of things are really bullshit. That all became the motivation for the bad guys in two novels I still hope to get published.

I did quite smoking due to the influence of JW's, and I met my wife through friends at the KH.

Are they going to drag in the Queen and ask her about the teachings of the Church of England? I'm no fan of Mormons, but they are entitled to teach what they want.
