It does appear to be a contradiction or continuity error. Quick write to the society and let them know I'm sure they will be grateful they may even publish it as a QFR.

Is this a contradiction or is it just the way i'm reading it?
by The Finger inin the book insight on the scriptures page 996 under the subheading popular views,.
"obviously, then, although revelation 14:3 says that the 144,000 have been "brought from the earth" the context depicts them as being, not on earth, but in heaven with the heavenly lamb, christ jesus.".
this is to defeat the arguement that the 144,000 are "members of the christian congregation while on earth whereas the "great crowd" are the resurrected christians in heaven.. in the book revelation its grand climax at hand!

The poor sister she deserved better. There is no real compassion here just regret. It is so sad but the witnesses will brush it off no one came out of this with any glory.

How many people who heard Millions now living talk are still alive?
by nugget ini was wondering it's been approximately 90 years since this talk was given so how many people who heard it could relaistically be alive now?.
the country with the greatest life expectation is japan and there the average life expectation is 82. the country with the worst record is mozambique with an average life expectancy of 43.. in developing countries 16% of the population is over 65 whereas only 6% of people in developing countries meet this criteria.
only 7% of the worlds population is over 65.. so if the worlds population is 6.6 billion does it mean 463 million are over 65. however if the best average life expectancy is 82 then the proportion of the 463 million that are 90 and over must be incredbly small.

The country with the greatest life expectation is Japan and there the average life expectation is 82. The country with the worst record is Mozambique with an average life expectancy of 43.
In developing countries 16% of the population is over 65 whereas only 6% of people in developing countries meet this criteria. Only 7% of the worlds population is over 65.
So if the worlds population is 6.6 billion does it mean 463 million are over 65. However if the best average life expectancy is 82 then the proportion of the 463 million that are 90 and over must be incredbly small. If it were 2% then 9 million people could be old enough to fit the age catergory. If only 1% then it falls to 4.5 million.
In 2000 people who were 95 or over in US were reported to number 337,238, people who were 90 to 94 were 1,112,531 1% of the population. 4.2% of population were over 90. So even in the US there are not enough people of the right age to meet the millions claim.
Also it is worth considering how far the word had spread back in the 1920's, preaching was not worldwide so the US figures are more indicative of the answer. Also how many people actually heard the talk? It wasn't everyone who was alive at the time it was only those who had listened to the talk and responded. So it was never millions even back then at it's peak.
So there are people who could have been very small babies at the time the talk was given and still be alive today, However anyone who was an adult i.e. 20 or over is most likely to be toast by now. The title of the talk is often quoted as a clarion call of hope but it was a lie when it was spouted and a bigger lie today. There are approximately 7 million witnesses worldwide there can only be at most 70,000 who fit the criteria and that is being incredibly generous with the maths. Millions now living died without having their hopes relaised and millions living today are making the same mistake.

The JW religon is not just meetings it is a way of life. There are 2 meetings each week plus field service. There is one evening of study, I mean the whole evening. There is also meeting preparation on top of this.
She will be counseled by elders about any relationship with a "worldly" boy and may be told she is being disloyal to god because she is pursuing a relationship outside the organisation.
Also remember that most things that would be considered private matters by most couples can be discussed and picked over by elders within the congregation. Your life together is the subject of public scrutiny.
There are also elements of the JW doctrine that will also impact on your life together. No xmas, no birthdays, no easter, no Mother's Day, no Valentines day, issues over every non JW wedding, non JW Funeral, Christening, Non JW party. Censoring of films, books, entertainment, Music and art. Smoking, buying a lottery ticket, drinking and some other passtimes are frowned on and forbidden. Her life is one of constant sacrifices and yours will reflect this. How will your parents feel about your girlfriends constant shunning of family celebrations, are you prepared to celebrate on your own?
Also her ambition will be to convert you, that may be her main interest in you.
Anyone dating a witness needs to appreciate that in the main they will be the one to make all the compromises. This religon allows it's members no freedom to bow to the wishes of others. Are you prepared to live your life in the shadow of this religon?

The Governing Body Fear The Proliferation of XJW and JW Internet Discussion Groups
by frankiespeakin inas the number of xjws grow and they post on different discussion groups, in all the different languages,, this must strike many of the governing body with terror, that is if any of them use the internet, and for all we know they all may have their head so far up their ass that they stay off the net, being old and set in their ways, but there might be a few who do surf the net, hey they may even enjoy a little porno too while there at it.. so perhaps the real old geezers don't go on the net,, being even too feeble to punch the key or see any purpose to it and so the internet remains a big mystery to them because they just don't get it.. those in the legal department at bethel probably do more internet stuff and perhaps they keep the real dumb gb abreast of things from time to time in language their dried out low functioning brains can grasp.. so depending on how up to date the individual governing body member is with the power and uses of the internet, to that extent they fear the proliferation.
the governing body fears their being exposed to the world and its members, that fear increases as we increase and the internet grows and becomes more common through out the world.. fear of this world exposure will make the governing body make less and less trips to different branches because there is so much dirt on these guys passing around all over the internet they don't know which branch members are reading this stuff.
i'm sure they are not the big hit they once were before the net and it can only get worse and worse..

Remember back to the time when you were a loyal cult member. Remember how you would censor your internet usage how you would die rather than go on an apostate site. The cult mind control is incredibly effective. The people who find their way here are not generally the uber Dubs. The WTBTS expects some natural wastage. The strongly worded assembly council is all that is needed to bring the majority of the flock back in line. Sad but true.

can a unmarried man be made an elder ?
by looloo inmy brother inlaw has been made a min servant age 21 and as yet has shown no interest in women !.
-
nugget
Yes, in fact for certain special privileges the WTBTS demands men be single. The ministerial training school started off as only for single brothers. At the end of the school brothers were given assignments and usually appointed to positions of oversight shortly thereafter. I did hear rumours that these brothers had to promise not to marry for several years following their graduation I appreciate this may have been a rumour so will fully understand if anyone corrects me on this point.

Once a cheater, always a cheater
by Quillsky inif you discover, while getting to know a potential partner, that they have cheated on a previous partner........ don't touch them.
run run run.. in my opinion a cheat remains a cheat.
opportunity is the variable.. please discuss..

People are complicated. Some people only care about themselves, what they need and want and don't consider the emotional impact their actions have on others. They are prone to cheating because the only person who counts in their life is themselves. In this case the statement applies and this person should be avoided.
But as has already been stated other people use cheating as a way out of a bad situation or because they made a mistake in the first place and started a relationship with the wrong person. The cheating in this case isn't necessarily indicative of future conduct.
There are also people who never considered the possibility, were caught off guard and did something dumb. They realise they did wrong and feel a heal. The cheating was out of character for them and was a one off event. People sometimes make mistakes.
As I said people are complicated.

The threat of missing meetings?
by babygirl30 inthis morning i had the memory flashback of something my mom used to always say: that missing meetings is like missing a 'meal', and that if you don't 'eat' on a regular basis, then you will lose your life.
she would come at me with "you have to stay close to the meetings - when armaggedon comes, that is where we will get our directions on where to go and what to do".. i used to be scared not to be at meetings for fear the end would come and i would be alone...or without my parents...all because that day i didn't go to the khall.
anyone else remember that???

Now we just threaten the children that if they don't behave they will be made to go. It works every time.
