  Has anyone prepared for further attacks here?

  just wondering.. i find myself having little mini panic attacks about all this.

  now that i have a little one to be responsible for, i am a little nervous.. i am strongly fighting the urge to have my car loaded up with a weeks worth of supplies for us (ie food, gear, clothes, diapers, water) so if something happens big here - i can head out to canada.. warning (haha) be ready my canadian friends - my daughter and i may be joining you.. anyone else feeling these "survivalist" feelings?????.

  I am not doing anything special to prepare for a couple of reasons.

  One I don’t live anywhere near a target, unless Bin Laden wants to kill a bunch of cows. And two, the technical difficulties of pulling off an NBC attack is most probably beyond the terrorist, at least at the moment.

  Biological would have a limited effect in America. Our hospitals and emergency crews would be able to detect and respond to the attack very quickly. Basically unless you were one of the unlucky group that was initially infected you would be fine. I would recommend practice good hygiene for the next few months though; wash hands before eating, etc, etc. Just the standard things that cut down on disease transmission.

  Chemical, very difficult to deliver. That Japanese cult tried it several times with no effect until they finally killed 12(?) people in a subway. Also unless you very careful with chemical weapons you just end up killing yourself. Chemical is even less scary than biological.

  Nuclear. I don’t believe they have the capability. For one suitcase bombs don’t exist. Small nukes were made but they had to be carried by two people and were about the size of a duffel bag and weighed about 100 lbs. I don’t believe the Russians lost any of these weapons. Honestly if the terrorist had any of these weapons they would have used them already. Worst case scenario if they did have one or two remember these bombs are not city busters, they torch about a ¼ mile radius. If one of these goes off they are very survivable (as long as you’re more than a ¼ mile away) just get away and make sure your not downwind.

  P.S. I also think of the Brits in WWII. Their country got bombed daily and they held up. I think we will be ok just dont panic.

  hope you're having a swell evening.

  there are two christian young women from the u.s. who are imprisoned in afghanistan for trying to make converts.

  of course, it seems astonishing to folks here in the u.s.. it seems things have come full circle, because in the law of moses if someone came to you talking about another god besides jehovah, even your 'wife lying in your bosom,' you were to report them.

  Hello,

  I believe in a higher power, I also believe that some parts of the bible are inspired. I also believe that any law based of the Bible, Koran (SP), or any other holy book is just insane.

  I don’t however believe that religion is the cause of this war; religion is just the excuse. Removing religion from society will not remove hatred, prejudice, greed, or lust for power and these are the base causes of war.

  I don’t think the problem is either Islam or Christianity; both have engaged in f**ked up activities at one time or another, and both have done many good things too. It’s when you radicalize those beliefs. Basically the problem is when people have such radical beliefs they believe anything is justified in order to bring about their view of a ‘just world’.

  what to do if you happen upon a peace rally by stupid naive hemp-shirt-wearing college idiots, to teach them why force is sometimes needed: .

  1) approach dumb rich ignorant student talking about "peace" and saying there should be, "no retaliation.

  2) engage in brief conversation, ask if military force is appropriate.

  So what are you saying?

  Are you saying that the 6000+ people that died deserved it? Are you saying that America has no right to respond due to past wrongs? I would really like to see an answer. Personally I think some people got a sick thrill from watching the attack. I think it made them feel good to see such a horrible thing happen to America.

  You might be surprised but I agree America has made mistakes in the past (Serbia is not one of them). The worst one was probably in Cambodia. But as for today I think America has conducted itself exemplary after the attack. Honestly if you can find my one country that has never screwed another country for its own gain I would be surprised. It amazes me how people think we should just take this because of past actions, that we some how deserve to have our cities leveled and people slaughtered. The same people are incapable of seeing the good that America has done for the world. Really countries are like people, none of them are perfect.

  Very good post. The situation is the same here in California; the Muslim community has been touched by the outpouring of support and friendship from the community in general. It amazes me how some people can be so racist and prejudiced to see all people in just one light. I really see no difference in the MINORITY of American bigots that see all Muslims as terrorist or people like pathofthorns that see all Americans as bigots. Ignorance. Inexcusable.

  if osama bin laden is captured and has to come to trial, what should his punishment be if he is found to be guilty of the murder of over five thousand people?.

  would europeans accept any us demands for execution?.

  I hope that he does not get the death penalty. I would like to see him get life, but he must serve it in the general population of a prison. Then, as a nation, we could start a 1 million cigarette reward to the first inmate that makes Bin Laden a Bitch. See how he likes living as a woman for the rest of his life.

  A request for evidence is unreasonable if it burns your sources. Don’t fret however Gweedo it looks like the US is going to take the least force option, at least at first. Powell is against committing a large force in Afghanistan, and Bush wants to work with the Muslim world not against it. My prediction is the retaliation is going to take the form of US and British commando raids, supporting the Northern Alliance, aid the population of Afghanistan in the way of food and medicine and working with exiled Afghani’s, the UN and the NA to try to create a stable interim government. Going for the whole harts and minds thing. Will it work? I have no idea and neither do you, but its probably a logical first step. You can always ratchet up a war but it’s hard to slow it down once it starts.

  Yes I agree war is terrible. As a matter of fact I think very few Americans would disagree with that statement. Your post however does not address the reality that sometimes war is both inevitable and necessary.
