  Finding serenity after leaving the JWs

  tonight was such an interesting and profound night for me.

  i went to class... well, specifically a class that i enjoy a great deal... with a professor who has inspired me since i began college...

  so i'm sitting there, listening to him lecture, watching him walk back and forth across the stage with this huge projection of the u.s. territories in the background... and for the first time in what seems like ages, my soul spoke to me.

  Did you ever go back to the Kingdom Hall ..

  faking interest so as to gather material for a research paper?

  i'm in the position now of pretty well being able to plan exactly how i leave for good.

  i'll be moving to a foreign language congregation at some point in the near future, then after awhile i'll be "selling my house" and "moving" far out of the territory i'm in now.

  sounds like a wonderful plan.

  I always thought the JWs would be an interesting cult group to study. Getting the buzz words and documenting the phrases that keep their brains shut down is a great way of explaining to others how easy someone can get involved and trapped in a "high control group".

  Have fun and let us know if you ever publish your studies.

  hehe and be sure to take some coloring books while you underline "important" phrases, in case you get bored.

  since being da'd a few years back i haven't had any real contact with my jw family.

  i've accepted this and moved on, just like most of us have.

  just recently i've been contacted by them whenever they need something.

  I think you are doing the right thing.

  Will your family recognize it? Probably not. Yes, they maybe and more than likely are using you. But you, being the better man here, can hold your head up high and know that you are showing unconditional love. They are not.

  Sorry to be so pessimistic about cracking their JW shell, but hooray if you do.

  ok, so i'm trying to just plant a tiny seed of doubt somewhere in the cracks of my mothers mind, but that woman has 'jehovah' tattooed on her chest!

  anyway, i would not only like help for her benefit but also for my benefit.

  so it all started when i questioned her about 1914.... i wrote to her: 'as you had suggested i wanted to do some research.

  First of all welcome to the board, Jared.

  Second, here are some quotes you need to be aware of:

  "when historians and Biblical history pinpoint Cyrus' destruction of Babylon" ....What historians and what source? Obtain a copy of "Gentile Times Reconsidered" by Carl Olof Jonnson and you'll get plenty of documented proof of when Cyrus destroyed Babylon. Not a made up date from the WT that NO ONE else agrees with.

  "You can find info on pivotal dates.......SI or Insight" hmmmmm, using their own material to prove a point is silly. But that is what she has be taught by the WT.

  If you don't have either "Gentile Times Reconsidered" or "Crisis of Concience" I highly recommend you get them and start your own research and not rely on others. www.commentarypress is where you can obtain these publications. Or click on the banner on top of this DB, it is a source to get those books.

  Have fun and good luck. We all here have been trying to crack whatever shells we can with our loved ones.

  Oh and another good book is by James Penton "Apocalyspe Delayed"

  How Do I Help?

  i have a friend who had her mother pass away this week.

  the horrible thing is that her father passed away a couple weeks prior to her mother and her aunt also passed away last month.

  i feel horrible for her.

  Just be there for her.

  She may want to cry, talk about her family, talk about what she is going through and that's ok. You don't need to possess any wisdom just empathy, which you've already shown, and the willingness to be there with her. Listen. Or do simple things, dishes, vacuum, groceries. But just being there is what she needs. She'll know you care.

  i will be marrying a df jw in just 2 months.

  it is now really bothering him that his parents won't come to the wedding.

  omg- not only is he df, but it's being held in a church!!!

  and congrats on your wedding!

  First of all, have him read this board! Lots of info on it.

  Leaving a religion, especially a high control group, one has to go through the grieving process. There are many good threads here on dealing with that grief. Show him the "experiences" and see if he relates to any of them.

  Also, buy "Crisis of Conscience" for him by Raymond Franz (www.commentarypress.com) It will help him deal with the WT and how it is a "publishing company"!

  Hope you can get him to start healing.

  My life is going to have a BIG change soon

  most of you on this board know my husband and i have been caring for my aged parents for many years.

  mom is 91 and is in assisted living now, since november, when we could no longer fill her care needs.

  (my parents have been divorced since 1969 so we weren't separating a married couple, in case you wondered) .

  Our eldest son and his wife are expecting their third baby in September, and it was a shock to them. They have two boys, who will be 4 and 10 when this baby comes. They are hoping for a girl, but won't know for a few more weeks .

  OH MY!!!! what a surprise!!! I hope they have a girl, too. But their boys are really sweet.

  Ok, now back to you guys. So with all this freedom, you gonna be able to travel???? Let us know! You are always welcomed to come back here and relax! We would love to have you two.

  Depressed

  hi, i'm wondering what the best way to get over depression is.

  i've been in a black hole for 3 months now and every damn day is a battle just to get out of bed.

  i've been faded for awhile now and so i lost most all the jw friends that i had in that transition.

  please go see your health-care provider. You maybe having a chemical imbalance that will need some help. There is nothing wrong with that. Once the imbalance is straightened out, then you don't need the medication anymore.

  in durham, n.c. someone set fire to a patch of grass and fence on the property where the kingdom hall is located.

  a spokesman at the hall believes it was kids who had nothing better to do.. see "kingdom hall yard burned".
