The Sun is Alive and Exerts Power
by sabastious intell me if i am crazy, but i think the human race is ignoring something extremly simple.
when we go outside on a cloudless day... we all seem to ignore the giant burning ball in the sky.. think about it.. the sun truly is the bringer of all earthen life; without it's effects we would all perish.
did you know we have never sent a probe to the sun?

I was shunned
by cantleave inin the fareham shopping centre.. a "sister" saw me.
pretended not to see me, dropped her her head and moved very quickly in the opposite direction.. i love being a dangerous apostate!!

What Amelia said. Shunning is one of the most unpleasant, cruel and UNCHRISTIAN practices imaginable. I actually pity the 'sister' who probably was terrified that demons would come flying out at her if she as much as said 'hi' to you.

JRK I really do sympathise with you, I know how difficult it can be trying to do the right thing for your Mum. If she raised the subject herself that is a different matter to you raising it, and all I can say is, pick your words carefully and if she gets distressed or refuses to acknowledge what you are saying just let it be and go and pour yourself a stiff drink or something. Take care

I'm afraid I have to agree with lamallcool. My own mother is in her 80s and I am constantly biting my tongue to stop myself from saying something every time she states as fact that ALL the WT's Bible's predictions are coming true, and the end is very close now. She has waited patiently for so many years for armageddon and lives for the day she will be reunited with Dad in the resurrection. It would be extremely cruel to try to shatter her dreams at this stage of her life, it would break her heart and I could never live with myself.

The Pressure Is On to Pioneer in April

i hadn't really heard any "oh my what a blessing, are you pioneering in april?
" talk right after the big announcement last month.

He ACTUALLY SAID that "Armageddon is coming and if that's not incentive to do more in the service of Jehovah, I don't know what is."
He went on to point out that we should never be satisfied with what we are doing now, and should always be striving for more. He mentioned a talk on a District Convention from 1981 where these questions were asked:
"If you are a single person without Scriptural obligations, can you justify before Jehovah why you are not in the full-time service?"
"If you are a married couple without Scriptural obligations, can you justify why one or both of you are not in the full-time service?"
"If you are a retired person without Scriptural obligations, can you justify before Jehovah why you are not in the full-time service?"
Towards the end of the talk, he made a statement that really got my blood boiling. He said: "Would you expect The End to come when Jehovah has got more people than ever involved in the Pioneer work? Could it happen in April?"
As far back as the 1960s we were put under so much pressure from our parents and congregations to follow this directive. We were expected to give up any further education, careers or fulfilling jobs to devote all our time knocking doors as our lives were in danger if we did not do as we were told. Yet where does it actually say in the bible that Jehovah expects people to do this?
If any young JWs are reading this thread who are currently being pressurised against their better judgement to devote their lives to pioneering, please be assured this is nothing new. It is the same pressure they have used for over a century in fact. Back in the 60s we were told there would be plenty of time to do all the fun things in life 'in the New System' which was almost upon us and we were to devote every moment we could to the preaching work in case Armageddon came and caught us unawares.
Believe me, they will steal your youth off you, ruin your chances of getting a fulfilling job then you will reach 60 without a pension and realise you were conned. Don't let it happen!!!! Put your foot down and say NO while you have the chance.

wife seen part of "dateline" online, about pedophile in JW land
by inbetween ina short update on my situation.. i am still in, trying to help my family to see the light.
my wife is open to critisize certain aspects of the wts, reads wt articles with a critical mind, but she still views them as gods org, and at times can get quit defensive about it.. last night though, she seemed devastated about a program she watched, reagrding pedophiles (dateline i guess).
she was very disturbed, even to the point of being depressed.

Anyway, I get the impression, her mind is slowly opening up towards information outside the WTS literature, otherwise she would have such a program just clicked off.
Inbetween, it sounds to me that your wife is already well on her way to becoming concious of the truth about 'The Truth'. However, you are right to be cautious. It will no doubt be devastating for her to realise her life has been based round a lie for so long and she will have to come to terms with it in her own time and at her own pace.
Just be there for her to provide the support she needs, then when you feel the time is right introduce her to this site and others like JW Facts - that is if she has not found them for herself by then!

Sadly, most JWs are conditioned to shut their mind against any deffamitory information from worldlings or apostates so to hit them with something as strong as this on the doorstep will just be like a bullet missing its mark and ricocheting off a nearby wall to most of them, unfortunately. There again, I suppose if it makes even ONE dub sit up and take notice, it is worth a try.

Children Learning to Think Critically Aged Six!
by lifelong humanist inyesterday, i started a thread about learning how to thinking critically.. so, imagine my surprise when last night my eldest son phoned to say that his son, my grandson, wanted to speak with my wife and i about a project he had to do at his school.
he has just turned 6 years old.
the project involved asking his parents and then grandparents questions about how things when they were a similar age.. i said that i'd be happy to speak with him, and answer his questions as best i could.

Sounds to me that his school are trying to get young minds thinking about more than just answers, but the reasons behind them - a bit more like discovering why we do what we do, and how it involves others...
That is brilliant!
Let's hope other schools are doing this too.
